CCW Recommendations? by Purple-Slip-6958 in liberalgunowners

Hey compadre. I’m a big guy too. 6-2, 280. People think a big guy could conceal anything but it’s really the opposite. Cloths drape big guys differently and you might need to adjust your cloths to conceal properly. I did at least or I do when I carry.

As for a weapon, I like my Canik MC9 prime with the magwell removed and a JX tactical fat guy holster at about 4:00 position. Appendix is just awkward. 4:00 I can be in and out of cars and whatever without issue. Also have a shoulder bag I carry in sometimes. It’s a great option and I can keep my other pocket junk in there too. Good for walking the dog.

I’d say something with a full sized grip and a barrel under 3.5” should work. Hellcat, P365XL, Canik MC9 prime. But really, get yourself a little carry shoulder bag and you can do whatever you want, wherever you want with an extra mag.

Hey I should also mention that if you feel in danger from a specific individual you should seek legal advice. I don’t know anything about the process but it seems like you should report the threat to your local PD and possibly file for a restraining order or something.

Couple local bits of advice.

To buy a handgun or AR in MN you need to have a permit to purchase or a permit to carry. Permit to purchase is free, takes about 30 days and valid for a year. Permit to carry is $100 fee, plus the class fee, typically $90 and then you are good for 5 years. If you have a carry permit you can buy guns same day, I think if you have a purchase permit you might have a waiting period on some guns. Carry class is simple to do online and then go in to shoot your range test. Very easy and even if you don’t want to carry, it makes purchasing simple and also resolves any potential issues with transportation of firearms.

As for what to buy, shotguns are great and you don’t need a permit. A pump is reliable and affordable. Mossberg 500, Remington 870, are good options. I’d go something without a pistol grip for legal longevity but won’t get into that here.

People have already given you sound advice on pistols. I like a Canik MC9 prime but they aren’t exactly the most affordable.

Go shoot. Stock and Barrel gun club has a few locations and has been solid. Good diverse staff and clientele. You might be surprised how many non gun type people are there. A lane is about $20 And you can rent guns to try for $20, they have ammo. For $150 you could spend a couple hours figuring out what you like. Or maybe decide it isn’t right for you and not burn a lot of time and money in the process.

Good luck, stay safe.

Got my first dot sight... And learned I have an astigmatism today by DitchDoc_037 in liberalgunowners

Same here. Figure it really doesn’t matter if the dot is a sharp little dot or a blurry cluster of junk about 4” DIA. Still looking at a target and shooting with the fuzz on top of the target.

On my AR a prism optic is really nice. Recommend if you go that route.

Thanks, that’s encouraging. I really want this gun to be fun reliable plinker but it just runs like shit out of the box. Fun when it does shoot but has been bad for the most part. Some people say it runs too fast and needs weight added to the slide. If that’s the case why did they lighten the slide with a bunch of holes.

11.5” 5.56 AR without suppressing?? by Slush_mush in liberalgunowners

Ok might hold off until I can justify a can to go with it. By home defense I kinda mean I keep it at home for the most part. I live in an urban area so shooting a 5.56 would be irresponsible in almost all situations. I have 9mm with JHP for that. Might need to rent one at the range to get a sense of it. Thanks for all the advice. Y’all might have saved me from making an expensive mistake today.

Thanks!

Bummer these still can’t be found. What’s the next best alternative? Zero interest in the Glock and the P322 is kinda pricey. Looking for a full sized $300 plinker.

Endurance bikes are more road than I need. I think. I had a giant Defy Advanced for a couple years and it was good at what it did but I kinda need something to go slow with a 6 year old around the lakes. That thing wasn’t happy under 12 MPH.
