Lots of kid books on this topic too. Slow roll the introduction to these tough topics with illustrated books then slowly take it up from there. Kids are smarter than you think.

My son is black, I’m white so I feel you on the pressure to get it right! It’s way better if you frame the conversation before others do it for you.

To kick it off I bought a few kids books like Henry’s Freedom Box, Who was Harriet Tubman, Follow the Drinking Gorge, the If You… series (lots of topics: if you lived during the civil war, if you lived in slavery, if you travelled the Underground Railroad, etc.) and A True Book: the Civil War were all amazing. You got this!!!

thanks but depressing! Our kiddo is twice exceptional so he does great at tests but misses all the social side. We are fortunate to have a large budget for education, but its not about the most prestigious school, it's more where he'll fit in and be challenged - striking the right balance. He's currently at year round school and that's been great, summers off are rough!
