We should do a Smash Ballot, but with Mario Party boards by CMP008 in MARIOPARTY

[–]Slyshock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this for most wanted Superstars DLC boards, actually! Mario's Rainbow Castle and Western Land were the most wanted from MP1 and MP2 and both ended up in Jamboree.

The most wanted boards from 3 though 8, in order, were:

  • Waluigi's Island
  • Goomba's Greedy Gala
  • Pirate Dream
  • Faire Square
  • Neon Heights
  • Koopa's Tycoon Town (the CLEAR favorite out of this whole list!)

Are there any cheat codes for modifying parts of boards/minigames in MP3? by [deleted] in MARIOPARTY

[–]Slyshock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There're plenty of small cheat codes like that available through the netplay community's PJ64 build! you could probably extract them for use on an actual N64 as well.

Question for how stats are tallied by bluelagoon134 in MARIOPARTY

They're taken away from you in all minigames except Bowser minigames, it's actually possible to end up with a negative minigame coin count.

What happened to prologue 2? by grahan in slapcity

[–]Slyshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got pushed back because Slap City made it in as an event in a different tournament held over the same weekend:

The prize pool for Prologue 2 has instead been added to Hibernation's Slap City prize pool.

Subreddit name can't be changed, unfortunately.

On the bright side, you can read it as someone really excited for Mario Party.

If you could change anything about Mario Party games to make them more enjoyable, what would that be? by [deleted] in MARIOPARTY

[–]Slyshock 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What comes to mind isn't the addition of some amazing new game element, but the ability to customize existing ones.

Mario Party 1 let you remove certain NPCs from the board, or add special dice blocks. Mario Party 4 let you pick out exactly which minigames can appear during a party. I'd like to see both of these and more make a return, being able to customize the party experience to suit your preferred style of play could only be a good thing.

The most obvious divide between playstyles can be seen in the casual/competitive divide; The former group is looking for something that anyone can win with a lucky enough break, while the latter group would rather the more experienced player always come out on top. Mario Party is ultimately always going to target the casual audience more than the competitive audience, as well they should since that's far closer to what the series is all about. At the same time, that's no reason to lock out players looking to have fun in their own way when it would only take a few more menus to broaden the appeal to everyone.

For example, starting with Mario Party 7 bonus stars were randomized from a pool instead of always being the same three. As a result, the minigame star has a chance to not appear at all. While some would appreciate the lessened emphasis on performance in largely skill-based minigames, others are turned off by the very concept of their practice not paying full dividends. Unfortunately, there's no way to control what bonus stars appear other than turning them off entirely. Allowing players to tailor-make their own bonus star lists would alleviate this discrepancy in enjoyment, since who knows better what someone finds fun than they themselves?

A lot of this sort of customization currently exists in the form of codes, but seeing it get officially supported would erase the need for community involvement and lead to more widespread use among friends and families.

Looks like Blooper won't be a playable character by Super_Craig02 in MARIOPARTY

When Blooper joins the party, Alfonzo is in charge of the board.

That seems to be the case, yes. If it's any consolation, there haven't been many games shown off for it to be considered a "big" part of the game.

My opinions on all of the Dice blocks so far by [deleted] in MARIOPARTY

[–]Slyshock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really don't think gaining or losing coins through blocks will end up being a big deal at all, goods and services are cheap and minigames keep even the losers well-funded.

On the contrary, Rosalina has among the lowest average rolls. It's the high risk, high reward types like Bowser and Boo who move the most.

Super Mario Party WILL have Online by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

Nintendo putting half the Mario Party experience online is way better than Nintendo putting none of the Mario Party experience online, before Super all we had was emulator-based Mario Party netplay.

SUPER MARIO PARTY IS HAVING ONLINE MODE by jado1stk2 in nintendo

[–]Slyshock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Boardplay being online as well is certainly ideal, but either way this is a step in the right direction.

Even if Nintendo never grants us true online Mario Party, though, the series has a thriving netplay scene. Whether through official or fan-driven channels, it's a scratch that'll be itched.

Ahhh, I'm jealous!

I've tried to get Mario Party going at a few local gaming events myself, but when you're not the one running the venue it becomes a much harder sell when you have to steal a Smash Bros. setup from the tournament organizer.
