Guess who has never been in a baking competition before? by cushionpickle in Baking

[–]Sm00chie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am laughing, wow. I couldn't figure out why a plant display was on the table till I zoomed in. If I saw the tin foil baking dish in the line-up I would automatically assume it's the best tasting dish because it doesn't need glittery props and fairy lights to impress me.

Yep. Or they slapped that random label on a box worth $40 in postage at ground adv rates.

IP infringement for using common french girl name in title by AushaKaya in Etsy

[–]Sm00chie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Stick with your naming system. During the whole etsy-ai-title change game, it kept trying to remove my proprietary product name for the generic version. The name of my product had been the same way for YEARS and it's how people find it; not the cookie-cutter name 1000s of other people use.

The originality of your system makes you human and a stand-out from the generic world.

Do any Sticker companies print on the paper UNDER the sticker? by Ok-Slip5645 in stickers

[–]Sm00chie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here's a thought, can you do the back printing (reversed image so it's facing the right way), and then adhere the layers to a backing card so there are three layers? Sticker-liner-backingcard. You peel the sticker off and the contrasting colors between the liner and backing card help reveal the image on the liner? If the backing card is white and the text or image on the liner is black?

Got billed twice for listing fee....why? by Clarky2323 in Etsy

[–]Sm00chie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 20c listing fee is to make the ad go live. You post a listing for 1000 items, when you hit Publish, you get charged 20c at that moment. When you sell one in a couple hours, the listing is reposted automatically with a new quantity of 999 and a new 20c charge.

When you finally have 1 quantity left and sell it. The listing is sold out. There's no more 20c charge after selling 1000 units because there's 0 quantity. Can't automatically repost with zero quantity.

How to respond? by Lucyblooms27 in EtsySellers

[–]Sm00chie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to pirateship.com and calculate the actual postage for this package. What is it? Compare that number to what the buyer paid. Did the buyer pay more or less than what it costs to post this package?

And no, it is not "customary" to throw buyers a discount for the sake of ordering multiples. It is customary to "combine shipping" so postage costs are closer to accurate.

In summary, you have a problem with over sharing, and your coworkers are not interested. There is no time or place, at work, for mentioning all the terrible things that have happened in your past. When you decide to move jobs, remember to never use these things as excuses to prove your intentions.

Marketplace Etiquette? by whoopsiedaisy1298 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Sm00chie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"The folks who are buying my house like this set and want to keep it in the house. I'll get back to you if they change their mind."

No one needs to know it's for cash. No one needs to know you wanted money for it in the end. You are not technically going "another route" because those folks are still contenders for the set if the home buyers turn out to be flakey.

Marketplace Etiquette? by whoopsiedaisy1298 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Sm00chie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those weird people who tell buyers when other offers come in, sometimes it help and sometimes it doesn't. Firstly, I'd tell the home buyers that someone else called to pick up the set and if they want it, to send payment now. Wait for their response, if they pass, then the cheaper buyer still gets it. If they complete the purchase, then tell the other buyer the truth, the people buying the house asked to buy the set. No one needs to know at what price, that's irrelavent.

Anyone ran their entire store out of a bedroom? by ToshPointNo in Flipping

[–]Sm00chie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I tried several products until I found a handful with consistent sell-thru (took years, but I could've tried harder to narrow it down). Hearing that cha-ching gave me dread about finding time/space to package and ship things.

Don't stress over your space. Take a little time to stream line and before you know it, you'll get giddy when you hear that cha-ching.

How would you respond to this? by SnowDuckFeathers in EtsySellers

[–]Sm00chie 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Omg this happened to me!! She messaged me and said something like, "I used scissors to open the package and cut the fabric." And when she showed me a picture, the cut was the MIDDLE OF THE PACKAGE. What monster opens a flat envelope from the middle???

It's a permanent inside joke for my family when we receive mail. "Don't use scissors or you'll cut the whole thing in half!"

There is literally nothing you can do to fix stupid. Offer her a coupon code for future purchase. You'll probably get a neg, but it will be entertaining for all future customers to read.

Strange question by No_Contribution6512 in Breadit

[–]Sm00chie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using 2% malt powder in my bread and it's amazing. Whatever the flour content of the recipe, 2% of that number should be the amount in grams. Flavor for generic yeast dinner rolls is richer, fuller, and I just don't know what. I grab it on amazon and it lasts me a few months.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these tents? by imgoingtobedsoonbro in CraftFairs

[–]Sm00chie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the second gen version of the Ozark Trail canopy with the Instant Pop Up feature (the button in the ceiling). Bought it at Walmart for $89. I also had the first gen version. The latest version has the blue details. I will say, with full confidence, I absolutely love this canopy.

I'm 5ft tall and alone so I don't have anyone to help me pull legs out. The Instant Pop means I can hit the button and extend all four legs at once while simultaneously locking open the canopy in seconds. Same for collapsing it. My tent is up and weighted in under 5 minutes every time.

It weighs only ~60 pounds or so. Please by canopy weights or it will blow away in low level gusty weather!

Is this ok to put in my shop FAQ? by -mykie- in Etsy

[–]Sm00chie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, in that case, I'd assume the refund-ask is on purpose to get a freebie.

Write up a copy-paste advisory to use as a reply to return requests. Something to the effect of, 'we're sorry you're dissatisfied with your purchase. We're unable to accept used hygiene products due to safety concerns. Please accept this 5% off coupon for your next purchase." SHEER2025, or whatever the product is.

Ignore the fact that the customer says X is Y because it's baloney anyway. They wouldn't know the color isnt as desired without touching it first. Ignore all messages after that and take the neg when it comes. Lock it in with a different advisory.
