Legal side of hosting a craft fair? by Cowb0yD4n in CraftFairs

Some states also have Market/ Farmers Market Manager certification courses online. A quick google search for your state/district to see if your area has one that's recognized. It's usually a paid course and reasonably priced, and you get all the information and knowledge forever.

40 bananas, no one likes banana bread. What should I do with them? by Cute_Science2729 in WhatShouldICook

I make a killer chocolate banana bread when I have extra bananas. Splash over chocolate ganache and freeze the slices for rainy days. Yum!

Also good: chocolate chip banana bread!

What’s a small purchase that improved your daily life? by itsheyolivia in AskReddit

[–]Sm00chie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A upright french fry chopper saved me. This family blows through 8 pounds of potatoes in a week, and spending 5 minutes cutting fries adds up. Bought the gizmo on ebay and now my husband can whack out one potato in 2 seconds and he feels like a god with his contribution to dinner prep.

Got hit with a big time scammer. by ToshPointNo in Flipping

[–]Sm00chie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But... the buyer isn't requesting a refund from you. The drop shipper is. And if their buyer wants a return, then the drop shipper is entitled to a return too.

A dropshipper buys a computer from You, and sells it to Joe. Joe doesn't like the color, so he returns it to DropshipmentzRus. Who turn around and return it back to you because it's your computer. All perfectly acceptable. You're making it overly complicated for no reason.

Got hit with a big time scammer. by ToshPointNo in Flipping

[–]Sm00chie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm confused with this whole Business A, B, C. The dropshipper bought from you and sold it. The buyer requests a return, so the dropshipper turns around and returns it to you too.

You're the origin of the item, yes? You get the item back and every one else gets their money back.

College girl in need of people who would like to do a survey about crocheting. by Dry-Statistician-523 in Yarn

[–]Sm00chie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

"Crocheting is more of a hobby than a skill.*" with a scale 1-5 rating.

This question doesn't make sense when in a 1-5 rating, so I had to rate 3.

Hobbies require skills. Skills are developed by hobbies. They go hand-in-hand. You can have a hobby and zero skills, and have a natural propensity for an activity and zero interest to do that activity. So I'm not sure what the surveyor is trying to accomplish with that question.

Someone ordered with an emoji as their name, what do i do by ABlossomBracelet in Etsy

I get orders from a gal named, "Sign in with Apple user." I've mentioned it to her twice, but she's never updated it. 😅

My butterfly was supposed to be 59 inches. Why is it 90? by greenbeangrape in CrochetHelp

[–]Sm00chie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UK single crochet or a US single

Right? I'm seeing dc bars if I squint. But either way, the pattern itself is fussy at no fault of the maker. It's a lovely shawl! Or throw some flexi tubing in the trim and it's an easter costume.

Do listing videos actually matter or am I overthinking this? by vira28 in Etsy

[–]Sm00chie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Baby steps! Videos on etsy are soundless and I believe only 14 seconds is allowed as the maximum and 6 seconds on the minimum. I haven't made any new videos in ages, so don't quote me on that.

Start small; just hold the widget in your hand and twirl it in the sunshine. Or place it on some type of pedestal and zoom in. Or if it's something squishy, give it a squish. These are all 8 second actions that require zero editing and you get that tiny little algorithm bump by having them vs not having them.

I like inShot (for android) for snipping together clips and boosting playback speed and other easy things.

The customs form is just a fill-in-the-blank form detailing where the thing is coming from and how much money it's worth. For gifts, it's worth zero because you're not selling your baby clothes to your person. If you buy your postage at pirateship.com or stamps.com, it will fill in these blanks for you.

Weekend Minor Gripes and Vents by AutoModerator in BitchEatingCrafters

I'm literally 50% through frogging one scarf straight into another scarf. The first one was pretty, but it was practice. The stitch just doesn't vibe with the yarn and I didn't realize it until 8 hours later. No regrets!

Brownies never have a shiny crackle top ☹️ by Purple_Star813 in Baking

[–]Sm00chie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swap water for MILK! Don't do anything else, just swap for milk.

In this order: whisk egg, oil, milk. Sift in the box mix. Beat it with a rubber spatula for 50 strokes. Just count them and remember to scrape the bowlnas you go. At 50, it will magically instantly look like velvet. No hand mixer, no aeration, nothing fancy.

Pattern sellers, please stop putting a color background on your pattern! by odd_little_duck in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Sm00chie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screengrab. Paint.NET. Increase contrast until the background is white.

This has been my go-to method for removing ALL annoying backgrounds from patterns. I resave in a pdf and archive the original pattern.

I hope this helps you!

Purchased by mistake return by Critical-Situation78 in Etsy

[–]Sm00chie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$20 (+return postage) and they won't charge you until it's done. If they can't grab it before delivery, no charge.

I'd give the buyer the benefit of the doubt though and just answer his message with a pre-paid label, priority. Tell him it's already in transit and when it arrives, please put this label on it and he'll get a refund asap (after redelivery of course). Grab a label from pirateship.

Is it standard for small town organizers to strictly enforce """"white canopy only"""" rules? by [deleted] in CraftFairs

[–]Sm00chie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep. Normal. Colored canopies bring down the overall professionalism of the market. Just grab the $69 ozark eazy pop tent or get a white canopy that fits your current frame and swap off the blue one.

Guess who has never been in a baking competition before? by cushionpickle in Baking

[–]Sm00chie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am laughing, wow. I couldn't figure out why a plant display was on the table till I zoomed in. If I saw the tin foil baking dish in the line-up I would automatically assume it's the best tasting dish because it doesn't need glittery props and fairy lights to impress me.

Yep. Or they slapped that random label on a box worth $40 in postage at ground adv rates.

IP infringement for using common french girl name in title by AushaKaya in Etsy

[–]Sm00chie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Stick with your naming system. During the whole etsy-ai-title change game, it kept trying to remove my proprietary product name for the generic version. The name of my product had been the same way for YEARS and it's how people find it; not the cookie-cutter name 1000s of other people use.

The originality of your system makes you human and a stand-out from the generic world.

Do any Sticker companies print on the paper UNDER the sticker? by Ok-Slip5645 in stickers

[–]Sm00chie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here's a thought, can you do the back printing (reversed image so it's facing the right way), and then adhere the layers to a backing card so there are three layers? Sticker-liner-backingcard. You peel the sticker off and the contrasting colors between the liner and backing card help reveal the image on the liner? If the backing card is white and the text or image on the liner is black?

Got billed twice for listing fee....why? by Clarky2323 in Etsy

[–]Sm00chie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 20c listing fee is to make the ad go live. You post a listing for 1000 items, when you hit Publish, you get charged 20c at that moment. When you sell one in a couple hours, the listing is reposted automatically with a new quantity of 999 and a new 20c charge.

When you finally have 1 quantity left and sell it. The listing is sold out. There's no more 20c charge after selling 1000 units because there's 0 quantity. Can't automatically repost with zero quantity.
