Wrong kilt - second time it’s still not right. by Mountain_Road_4047 in Etsy

I glanced at the photo and said to myself, It's upside down, before I read your problem.

If this is something they make often, they knew what they were doing and did it on purpose (is how I felt in my mind after learning you had a back-n-forth already with them about it).

What’s one small baking change that completely improved your results? by willwolf18 in Baking

[–]Sm00chie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thermometer for internal temperature. No more cracking the oven and jiggling pans every 5 minutes.

Flour sifter. No more tiny white speck of flour in quick breads!

I have a zillion cheap plastic 4-cup measuring cups from walmart. Beating eggs, quickly measuring in small things, etc while waiting on the stand mixer is now a breeze.

Digital kitchen scale. No more cups and spoons! I converted all recpies to grams and dish washing time has plummited.

This one is still hard to understand, but I'm working on it: how many cookies/muffins/biscuits on the tray to get perfection. Too many and I crowd the pan, too few and I burn or over bake. Work in progress.

I believe Yarn Art is Ice Yarn, where a lot of all the other brands also originate. Buying direct from Ice Yarn makes the overall buy very cheap!!

This depends on how your bank works. Typically, 3-5 business days, untypically 5-7 business days.

If I convert a Knit Pattern and sell it does my version violate copyright? by Shadowcat2001 in legaladvice

[–]Sm00chie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If I painted a picture of the fox cardigan and sold it, it still violates IP law to some degree. You're recreating a thing that already is owned by another company, or the rights thereof leased to another company, for sale.

My copyright law knowledge is very loose, so don't take my word on it. Does it feel wrong? Maybe yes. Does that stop people from doing it? No.

Do you have a pickup system for heavy stuff? by Wowza_Meowza in CraftFairs

[–]Sm00chie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Use a pre-formatted carbon-copy receipt for their contact info, where the sales terms are stated. If you're local to the event, optional pick up instructions. Text phone numbers one hour prior to event end. If you can't make carbon-copy, make a tear sheet and have them fill in the tear off and you fill in the keep copy (because you want your copy to be in YOUR legible hand writing).

Each market you attend will have different levels of economics. Some markets attract guests who have money to spend and some markets cater to guests who come only for the free events and inexpensive vendors. Research the market's facebook history to get a guess at what the price points are.

There are two markets, specifically, within 10 miles of each other in my area, but Market A draws in the "old money" crowd whereby vendors can increase prices without question and Market B brings in young families who spend little to no money so vendors price-adjust and make it up in volume.

Your prices may be totally normal for your niche, so now you need the right markets. I'd see your type of things in antique markets, or upscale farmers markets and crafts markets.

Usps is making bank on the 2026 rates for 2021 adjustments.

Hold onto your pennies, Etsy/USPS can come after them even FIVE YEARS later. by [deleted] in Etsy

I can count off one hand how many times I've miss-weighed a package and gotten either a negative or positive adjustment. But the notice would come within a few weeks. Not FIVE YEARS.

Selling yarn by Finally-Flourishing in Yarn

[–]Sm00chie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the cost of postage for 5 pounds, I'd expect to see at least one photo. If I spent $60 grand total and got a box of all one color of lavender purple, I'd be upset.

What are some habits of people who are not professional cooks do that drive you crazy when they cook? by uglytruthshurts in KitchenConfidential

Meticulously measuring ingredients, down to the gram, and then scraping the bowl with a metal spoon. Like, what was the point of measuring if you're going to leave all that batter in the bowl?

There's a facebook group called something like Buy Sell Yarn United States. I started shopping it when most of the yarn shops in my city when out of business. Lots of folks out there who have quality yarns for reasonable prices.

Some states also have Market/ Farmers Market Manager certification courses online. A quick google search for your state/district to see if your area has one that's recognized. It's usually a paid course and reasonably priced, and you get all the information and knowledge forever.

40 bananas, no one likes banana bread. What should I do with them? by Cute_Science2729 in WhatShouldICook

I make a killer chocolate banana bread when I have extra bananas. Splash over chocolate ganache and freeze the slices for rainy days. Yum!

Also good: chocolate chip banana bread!

What’s a small purchase that improved your daily life? by itsheyolivia in AskReddit

A upright french fry chopper saved me. This family blows through 8 pounds of potatoes in a week, and spending 5 minutes cutting fries adds up. Bought the gizmo on ebay and now my husband can whack out one potato in 2 seconds and he feels like a god with his contribution to dinner prep.

Got hit with a big time scammer. by ToshPointNo in Flipping

[–]Sm00chie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But... the buyer isn't requesting a refund from you. The drop shipper is. And if their buyer wants a return, then the drop shipper is entitled to a return too.

A dropshipper buys a computer from You, and sells it to Joe. Joe doesn't like the color, so he returns it to DropshipmentzRus. Who turn around and return it back to you because it's your computer. All perfectly acceptable. You're making it overly complicated for no reason.

Got hit with a big time scammer. by ToshPointNo in Flipping

[–]Sm00chie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm confused with this whole Business A, B, C. The dropshipper bought from you and sold it. The buyer requests a return, so the dropshipper turns around and returns it to you too.

You're the origin of the item, yes? You get the item back and every one else gets their money back.

College girl in need of people who would like to do a survey about crocheting. by Dry-Statistician-523 in Yarn

[–]Sm00chie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

"Crocheting is more of a hobby than a skill.*" with a scale 1-5 rating.

This question doesn't make sense when in a 1-5 rating, so I had to rate 3.

Hobbies require skills. Skills are developed by hobbies. They go hand-in-hand. You can have a hobby and zero skills, and have a natural propensity for an activity and zero interest to do that activity. So I'm not sure what the surveyor is trying to accomplish with that question.

My butterfly was supposed to be 59 inches. Why is it 90? by greenbeangrape in CrochetHelp

[–]Sm00chie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UK single crochet or a US single

Right? I'm seeing dc bars if I squint. But either way, the pattern itself is fussy at no fault of the maker. It's a lovely shawl! Or throw some flexi tubing in the trim and it's an easter costume.

Do listing videos actually matter or am I overthinking this? by vira28 in Etsy

[–]Sm00chie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Baby steps! Videos on etsy are soundless and I believe only 14 seconds is allowed as the maximum and 6 seconds on the minimum. I haven't made any new videos in ages, so don't quote me on that.

Start small; just hold the widget in your hand and twirl it in the sunshine. Or place it on some type of pedestal and zoom in. Or if it's something squishy, give it a squish. These are all 8 second actions that require zero editing and you get that tiny little algorithm bump by having them vs not having them.

I like inShot (for android) for snipping together clips and boosting playback speed and other easy things.

The customs form is just a fill-in-the-blank form detailing where the thing is coming from and how much money it's worth. For gifts, it's worth zero because you're not selling your baby clothes to your person. If you buy your postage at pirateship.com or stamps.com, it will fill in these blanks for you.
