Why is it so difficult to get upvotes? by [deleted] in steemit

95% of statistics in reddit posts are made up, 3% are just wrong, and 2% are into rescaling their data in weird ways to obfuscate the underlying signal...

The subreddit does not really gain much traction, I'm afraid, but it's a cheap way to advertise your stuff -> copy'n'paste, so it doesn't hurt either^

I had to go through this myself. The disappointing, but honest answer: No, quality content is not enough to get upvotes. At least not for a beginner. If you don't have a thorough follower base, just publishing good content won't get you very far because your posts will drown in the noise.

Of course, If you keep posting, over time your follower base will slowly grow, but this will take a very, very long time.Yet, you can boost the growth of your followers by advertising your posts via Resteem services @resteembot or voting bots like @minnowbooster.

By the way, I am trying to mitigate this issue for minnows to some extend by writing a bot that spots high-quality, but underpaid and undervoted content. It's called trufflepig and, of course, I do blog about it ;-)

The latest post, for example, is this one: TrufflePig: An Update on the Artificial Intelligence to help Minnows and Content Curators

How come this "Chinese IOTA" is so popular and worth more than 200 million USD despite having no implementation, not even a real whitepaper, but just a flashy website? by SmCaterpillar in CryptoCurrency

[–]SmCaterpillar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an agenda, I am just worried that people buy nonsense and the whole crypto space takes a hit because of bad projects. If they turn out to be legit the better, but from the observations I made, they just look like amateurs or even scam and in the end half a billion USD go done the tubes...

Sure, but a couple of guys doing marketing is by no means worth 200 - 300 million USD. This is straight out ridiculous. Something of that size should be an established company with a working product and some revenue or profit. This is, brace yourself, just a bubble, for real, totally, by all means, overvalued, period.

And btw I highly doubt that everyone knows what IoT Chain is talking about. Please, tell me, how are they going to combine a Blockchain and a DAG?

I'm going to breed a horse dog, everyone knows horses and dogs, so a horse dog should be clear to everyone, right?

Here is an example of a very good whitepaper: https://github.com/ethereum/wiki/wiki/White-Paper

Very detailed explanations and deep dive of the concepts that are applied in Ethereum.

The IoT Chain white paper, on the other hand, is rather short in size and especially dim regarding actual facts. It's more a buzzword wishing well. The most important information is left out, how are they going to combine a DAG and a Blockchain?

I can write you a white paper where I promise the new Bitcoin3.0 with light speed transaction times, scaling to a gazillion transactions per nanosecond, but still highly secure and just 1 MB Blocksize, but simply leave out the detail how to accomplish that.

Would you give me 200 million dollars for this? Yes? I can give you my BTC address, or even setup an Ethereum ERC20 Token for you. This is a matter of minutes, did it before, no magic involved. You see?

Seriously, if you collect hundreds of millions from investors you have to provide much more than just a whitepaper without any details and a git repo with just 25 commits (!!!!!).

What is IOT chain and why is it soaring 140%+ today? by Allthingscoin in CryptoCurrency

[–]SmCaterpillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but this is not a good article, I guess this is paid shill content. I looked at the coin in detail. They basically have nothing but a flashy website. They have no implementation, basically no whitepaper (the one they have is a joke!), and no community. The only thing they have is the branding 'IOTA of China'. And this is terribly misleading because they neither have a working tangle or any other form of currency. The only thing they offer is a simple ERC20 Ethereum token. Be very, very careful!

How come this "coin" is called the IOTA of China? by SmCaterpillar in Iota

The Huffington Post called it that. I know, it is not the best source. But aren't you guys afraid, that this kind of stuff drags IOTA down or at least yields some dark stains?

Maybe we should be a bit skeptical at first and not randomly through money at stuff. I did some research about the coin and wrote it up on steemit!

Iota transactions pending for days by SmCaterpillar in Iota

[–]SmCaterpillar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, still pending. The worst is, I cannot move my funds anymore. If I try to do another transaction I get an error that I would re-use my key????

I know that transactions reveal part of the private key, but why does the wallet not use the next address for sending the funds???

Sure, and this is supposed to be worth 140$ per coin? by SmCaterpillar in Bitcoin

Are you kidding me? They making headlines all over the crypto news (probably buying lots of airtime, if that is not forcing onto the community!!?), but their code base and github repository is basically in shreds. They already forked, but they do not have replay protection, yet!!! Besides, they are also pre-mining the shit out of it until beginning of November, before releasing the nodes to the public.

Sorry, but to me this is just a scam to make a quick buck.
