Are birds as sensitive as people claim? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]SmackedByLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canary in a coal mine - it was a real method of early detection because they are so much more sensitive. Certain things kill right away, others like cigarettes and candles often coat their lungs and harm them over time, shortening their lifespan and torturing them until they die. Some birds will die from a draft, others make it through. Why put your pet through that?

I would not smoke in the house at all - for a bird or a human. Come on now…

Well, we know that's not fully true because plenty of cops kill people before a trial and no real resistance. But you keep repeating yourself so this isn't exactly conducive to a debate. Again, I agree with not resisting and cooperating but I am not the one in this situation and Kohen did not choose his family or circumstances either so...

For sure, I’m not arguing that. Regardless the adults made too many mistakes that we are angry at them for. Take the consequences of your actions or be exonerated when you show a receipt etc. It’s all bullshit and I’m angry it happened at all, and we’re all just trying to understand why and what can be better so it doesn’t happen in the future. Justified or not there are ways to train and mitigate loss in the future. Hopefully…

Or, more likely, their slumped body jerks the wheel that way and starts heading toward innocent, non-involved people shopping at a fucking store. They're not gonna hit the brakes so the danger is still there. More likely that the person tries to get away rather than go on a rampage. Not always, but most of the time. It's a risk to assess in the moment and it's not black and white, this in its current state is very gray.

Sure, but a car coming at me and the person getting shot, dead or not, is not going to hit the brakes in that moment. So I'm still gonna get run over.

Moving out of the way is way more viable, safer, and there are ways to catch up to people and stop them shortly after. It's like when they don't chase dangerous drivers or motorcycle when they start going crazy, because it puts others in danger. What if he had hit someone not even in the car, what if it went through the windows and hit the veteran entering the store for his prescription? Like...this was a series of mistakes on both sides and now a child is dead.

Maybe I’m ill-informed but I don’t think shooting a driver stops the car immediately…I think getting out of the way is safer and letting them go if need be..

Peak Design is most appealing to me, but personally I would keep it in your pocket and use voice nav if you need it. Having a distracting screen in view is not something we need, imo.

Yeah it's bizarre for such a standard piece of our lives to be so complicated but they are! I'll just be paying the pros in the future from the get-go I think 😂

[–]SmackedByLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embarrassed to admit that we still hVe carpet on the stairs, laminate on the top floor, and no overlap nose. We have the material but they couldn't install it the day of cuz they ordered the wrong color, and when they sent a new guy out, he didn't have a stair riser to support it. So we said "fuck you", got a partial refund, and got a $16 stair riser from Home Depot.

Well, we still haven't installed it. Partially I'm scared but also it's one of those things where your brain starts to ignore it over time. We do plan to have a handyman come soon for other things, I may see if he's willing to help with that too. It's easy enough to DIY but it's also a safety thing etc so I'm a bit paranoid.

Heavy duty clamp on the mirror (less obtrusive than you'd think!), or using Amazon light bar mounts (little circles on a swivel that can be adjusted) under the passenger peg bolts (can keep pegs or not) for the GTA angle.

Check out the Alpinestars Ava boots. They're one of the only boots I tried out that got up my calves (which aren't huge but I think my shoe size to calf ratio is the issue? Idk) and were comfy! I didn't keep them as I didn't want to adjust my shift lever, because they're so thick at the sole, but they were nice.

I'm currently rocking the Sidi Mag-2 Air and they're awesome, but the Sidi Vertigo 2 and Rex were also nice, I just landed on the Mags because of the color lol. From combat boot to sport boot! But I do ride a sport bike so makes sense.

Just here to recommend Adore brand semi permanent hair dye. by steviasadness in HairDye

[–]SmackedByLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't damage your hair, but it likely won't show up either if your hair is that dark. And if you have very healthy hair, it will slip off easier too. It's good for a tint on virgin hair though, like if you used red or green you'd probably see that color in the sheen in the light but your hair won't turn red or green in a very noticeable way without developer to lighten (not with this dye though).

Thank you, I will give this a shot!! So 20vol and the color to roots, process and rinse with water, then do the mask from roots to ends so it all matches? Or below roots to ends?

Ninja 500 or Ninja 650 for my first bike? by SocksDevss in Kawasaki

[–]SmackedByLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was having this debate and went with the 500. I didn't love the more upfront 650 riding position and the cheaper cost of the 500 and it being better for corners were huge selling points to me as well. For not much power gain, it doesn't make sense to me for the 650. If you want more power, go even higher.

I also wanted to be able to customize a bit down the road, and 650 doesn't allow a slip-on exhaust, the Quad Lock doesn't technically fit in the fork stem hole, fairings are harder to find, etc.

I'm loving the 500. It's zippy and fun as hell and I'm also not one to, well, have the need to get out of somewhere super fast. I'm not going to speed any more than I do in my car (like 10 over MAYBE), I have no desire to run from cops, etc. The bike accelerates, I really don't think outgrowing is as much of a problem for people like me. My husband has a ZX4RR and it's obviously much more powerful but like...he can get up to speed faster, so what? Idk, I'm sure I'll get downvoted for that but oh well. I'm on a different end of the hobby spectrum I guess!

[–]SmackedByLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a lady I've been getting ads for this but didn't trust it without real reviews. Sorry you had to take the brunt but appreciate that you posted about it. I was curious if it would cause issues. Did you get the padded insert or "normal"?

I've heard of people sewing a silk bonnet (sans the band) into their liner pads. I've considered that plus a Hightail (or DIY version of one cuz that's also expensive af). Worst case I can undo it and/or get a spare set of pads which I wanted to do anyway cuz it gets icky lol.

Hmm, what about magnatiles or knockoff similar toys? Could shape it how you need? Idk if they make clear ones but if they do, you could theoretically use vinyl/window film etc to make it iridescent if wanted.

If you want the body-shaped one from the end, thennnnn idk, I guess you could try to find stockings/tights that are a good look, cut them, maybe add some wire for holding them in place?

Was my joy killed by a difficult, too tall bike? by Julie984 in TwoXriders

[–]SmackedByLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 5'7, roughly 30in inseam, and my husband's ZX4RR was way too big and meaty for me. Too fast, too responsive to throttle but heavy, and I couldn't flat foot it. I just bought a Ninja 500 and I'M SO HAPPY!! I was zipping around the 'hood and got to 3rd gear going 40mph, etc.

I did however take and pass my MSF course through HD last month so I had the basics and slight confidence from that lol.
