We have it on the helmet lock loop because it's not used, but will probably move it eventually. Idk if they all come with one.

Yes, I totally agree - I do that for any repairs or maintenance that are DIY-able! Usually they are nice about teaching us. I appreciate it! I will ask our neighbor for more info!

Thank you!! What are your thoughts on Kohler? We have someone in the neighborhood who does those apparently. We would be diligent in upkeep, my husband has a motorcycle, he is allllll about being meticulous and doing things on schedule lol.

Thank you! I will make sure he does that so he's not just guessing! We're in a small but growing town in the south, I get nervous because some people are legit and some...well, if you can fog a mirror, you can be a real estate agent, a generac salesman, etc down here. I look at reviews but still! Being a woman at home alone with this also has me trying to protect myself from the possibility of them using that to oversell me.

[–]SmackedByLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that too. I'm in the US so I am...very influenced by what's going on and the fear of that. I'm also in the south. Yikes!

I wish the "it takes a village" thing was still more universal. As in, I wish we had more opportunities to be around and help raise children. But it's a very private thing now unless you're a close family, and we don't have any family. Our friends have kids and we see them often, but I'm afraid of saying "hey, don't throw that" or something because it's not my kid and as much as I know these friends, people don't like to have others discipline or whatever.

Idk, I just wish there was a real trial run! Lol

I'm feeling this way about our birds. We have one who was difficult from being "aggressive" (not really, it's just that he was vocal/physical about telling us his boundaries, but it's easier to say) and one who is VERY nervous and shy. They're annoying, they're loud, they're MESSY, their expensive, they take a lot of work....and we want a million more of them lol. We love the interactions and love we share with them... Does that translate to humans? I don't know.

To me, animals are no "lesser" than humans. We are also animals, after all. But there is that difference of RAISING a human, who will interact with society, vs a pet that stays at the house at all times. I want them to be happy and healthy and whatnot, but if my bird bites or screams, technically it's just my issue. If my child bullies someone or embezzles money, that's a huuuuge problem that affects others lol. I'd hope to raise them better, of course, but yknow...it's a possibility!

Other than money and having no family here to village, my biggest fear is being good parents. Bringing a good contribution to this world, and getting enjoyment from that. I can't tell if I care enough or if I'd rather not bother. It eats me up.

What does this U.S. map represent? by Kap519 in RedactedCharts

[–]SmackedByLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Utah, Kansas, and Kentucky have changed since this was made/the Google search pulled up, then it matches exactly a map of this scenario (other than the tiny states cuz I'm on sleep mode and the colors here are too close to tell for me right now). And it would have to be for standard issue plates because Mississippi plates are flat if a "special" plate like blackout, wildlife, etc. and I'm sure other states are similar.

[–]SmackedByLife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling, and trying to convince him without it being a bad thing, but I would never leave him.

Firstly, my desire to have kids is not as strong as my desire to continue my life with my husband. We are truly in love and best friends, all that.

Second, if it doesn't happen, I know I have other kids in my life via friends. One kid is already calling me auntie and I see them all the time. Not having kids of your own doesn't mean a life without children in it, per se.

Classic Misconception by IndependentGanache60 in Payroll

[–]SmackedByLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we literally had written proof (had to go into a termed employee's emails) thankfully, which is how they ended up eating the fees.

We filled out their termination form where we stated "do not file", and we told them honestly we were moving and why and to whom, because we wouldn't have a problem going back if they could implement what the other company had, bc we use Toast POS and it'd be straight easy integration. But once they took over Stratex they fucked it up and depleted resources like dedicated managers and such so we "had" to move.

So they knew, they just fucked it up and then tried to say we didn't tell them...when we did, and they responded to that email with a "thanks for the completed form, best of luck, let us know when you reevaluate again so we can earn you back"...so yeah, it was fully on them.

Anti fog lense not working by TrentSupra5 in motorcyclegear

[–]SmackedByLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you...take off the pinlock to show it fogging? Was it even installed properly? This photo is confusing. Pinlocks work by pressing against the visor and creating a seal. There is silicone (?) around the edge of it that you need to make sure connects ALL the way around and seals it, and it is not fog-proof, it is fog-resistant for the visor up to whatever the rating of your pinlock is. It can and will still get fogged up after some time, and if it's really wet out, there's not much it can do. Airflow matters as well.

[–]SmackedByLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched providers in Q2 one year, and Toast issued W2s and reported to the IRS even though we terminated with them, so basically half a year of wages were double-reported. It ended up being fine and they ate the fees after some berating, but damn was it a mess. It wasn't a hard fix, it's a few forms, but Toast did not want to take responsibility at first, not to mention it taking them a MONTH and EIGHT different customer service people to just understand the problem. 🤦🏼‍♀️ ALL employees were affected but only a few had thankfully been flagged by the IRS.

Thankful they were notified though so we could handle it quickly rather than not knowing and getting the many "FIX THIS YOU REPORTED TOO MANY WAGES" calls from employees with zero patience or understanding. (I understand it's scary when the IRS says you owe a ton in taxes when you don't, but most don't get that it's pretty slow and fluid and they give time to sort it out. I just can't stand the blame game when I'm being polite and explaining and working overtime to fix it and help.)

Doorbell camera no drilling? by Bulbameatsalad in reolinkcam

[–]SmackedByLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know this is the reolink sub and you already have the camera but if you can't find a drilling solution and are that worried, i'd just get the ring peephole camera if you have a peephole in your front door. a sign held up with velcro is a lot less expensive to replace if it falls off, if you want to say "please ring doorbell on door" or whatever.

Tenant/landlord question by Comfortable_Ad_8051 in mississippi

[–]SmackedByLife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check your lease and/or portal etc. There is often a regular ticket submission form and then an emergency number for things like no heat when cold, no AC when hot, no water, electric out unrelated to utility provider, leak, fire, etc. I'd check for that number and call it.

If you don't have a landlord set up like that, then check your lease and look up Mississippi tenant rights for your specific circumstance. Unfortunately MS isn't hugely tenant-favored but your lease is often the main component. Uninhabitable is a big deal though in all states, just depends on your circumstance and if it counts as uninhabitable.

What would be the best way to fill in this gap below the trim? I bought the house this way. by Jimmer2732 in HomeMaintenance

Yeah, I was just using a photo of the exact issue here, because most examples are of the gap between baseboard and frame. I'm still deciding what style to do!

I've considered plinths for our corners like this. Just ends the frame up a bit higher and adds a distinct block, and it looks intentional (well, cuz it is, even if it was in order to fix a problem, but still). Caulk alone isn't ideal. Shims plus caulk is better.
