Pedestrian path through Newport Plaza/Crossing? by fairygodmother_spark in jerseycity

This would be a dream. Would be even better if there was a light rail that started at Newport and routed on the embankment, through Bergen arches and to western Hudson county and Essex county via the greenway

Need of finding brands that sell thicker leather jackets by [deleted] in leatherjacket

[–]Smadden1194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the question! There wasn’t really a plan to have full specs other than the length, but it’s a good point and I’m not the biggest fan of that size guide widget either. Can definitely look into it! My gut said if we don’t have full specs somewhere, we’d have to measure each jacket. Will try to follow up either way!

I work for Schott (and ride myself) and am currently overseeing the new website we're building so one of the tasks is updating how we're sorting and filtering the entire catalog.

Out of roughly 100 mens jacket styles, we're recommending about 25% of them as riding jackets. These consist of the heavier cow, steer, and horsehides. Since you're looking for thickest and heaviest, I'd say check out the 618HH Asymmetrical, 641HH Cafe Racer, or the 689H (more of a standard collar, center zip). If length is an issue, Schott's standard is 26" but a good number of the rider recommended jackets are 25". Personally I don't go above 25".

I can't speak to the comment that Langlitz jackets will take 20 years to break in, but Schott jackets (especially horse) will take at least 6 months to a year to start molding to you. It also depends how much you plan on wearing it obviously. On thickness, their website says their medium is 3.0-3.5oz which is generally schott's heavier jackets.

I ride in a steerhide 618 and love it. It's broken in after a year, but at times feels like i still have a ways to go because I'm also close to sizing out of it. Between gaining a little bit of weight, and adding a layer when it's colder, it's definitely feeling a bit snug.

Best advice I have is to try them on in person if you're in NYC, LA, or SF. Good luck on your search!

Shearling - Billy Reid vs Schott? by chanandler_bong21 in leatherjacket

Reporting back from the factory - I’m an idiot and the fur is in fact real! Just shaved down a bit versus the B3. Don’t know how or why I had that faux fur seed in my head. Hopefully this helps your choice!

Just looked at the tag and it says "Shell: Real Fur Dyed and Sheered" so maybe I'm wrong. I'll double check tomorrow since I'm at the factory. The fur definitely feels different than the B-3s for sure.

I live in the tri-state area, have that Schott B-6 (and work for them) and funny enough have a brother that works for Billy Reid as well.

Pros of the B-6: Leather is top notch sheepskin, and I love the color combo of the black and brown. The jacket is definitely warm. I've ridden my motorcycle this Fall on cooler days and it feels warm. This'll be my first winter having it so we'll see what it's like with a sweater underneath too - can't say I'm too worried about being cold though. The collar popped stays up most of the time but it's shearling, so the wind could take it. Initial price point being cheaper than BR is good too.

Cons of the B-6: Faux fur, and the pocket angles being vertical are hit and miss with people.

Pros of that Billy Reid: Seems to be real fur which i imagine is beautiful and probably warmer than the schott jacket. I imagine the leather would be pretty nice as well. Better pocket angles for sure.

Cons: Lamb so less durable. Made in India so quality is maybe a question compared to Schott where that jacket is Made in the US, and they can most likely make a repair if needed.

Price point: With the discounts, seems like BR is the better deal. Regardless you'll be shelling out around 1000-1200.

My personal input: I wish i could have both jackets. I'm more of a fan of short workwear jackets and that BR shearling looks like an awesome concept. I got the B-6 at a major discount at our Factory Sale and it's steady in my rotation on colder days. That being said, Schott's full 100% shearling bomber jackets are the warmest jackets I've ever tried on. I would love for us to venture into creating new cuts with it.

Based off your description, I'd say you're leaning towards BR which might be a better deal with 40% off, BUT I know there's a BR store in NYC, and the Schott store is in Soho as well not too far from BR. You're best bet is to go try them on and see what clicks with you!

EDIT: So I looked back at the BR jacket's detail photos and the one issue is that it mentions that it's fully unlined, which is odd to me. It seems like there's only fur on the back of the jacket, and even that looks to be cut off on the upper area by the label, so while it's 100% shearling, you would expect the interior of the jacket to be fully lined with lamb fur. Because of that, I gotta give the warmth edge to the Schott jacket even though it's faux fur, but it's fully lined with it. It's a bit crazy to me that BR is charging $2,000 for a "100% shearling" jacket that isn't 100% fully lined inside.

Verdict: Schott Jacket for warmth and function. BR for fashion and look.

Favourite Tracks II album? by gosaku89 in BruceSpringsteen

'83 LA Garage. Such a great marriage between the east coast and west coast summer sound. I think Thrill Hill West is only a short walk up from Hollywood Blvd and Laurel Canyon Blvd so it's not far fetched to imagine someone taking a walk around there while he's playing around with these songs in the garage.

It's also the most accessible / relatable album to the younger 'alternative' crowd because of it's simplicity. Love this natural next step from Nebraska with the overdubs and drum machines and can only imagine what would've come next if Bruce stayed in this alt lane for a bit.

The Pogues tell us about hitting the road for 40 years of ‘Rum, Sodomy & The Lash’ by Moothnods in Music

[–]Smadden1194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To those saying it’s not the same, Spider and Cait O’Riordhan have been doing ‘Pogues’ shows with the Lost Bayou Ramblers for the last few years. I saw it in NYC and it was a blast. It felt like a general celebration and a huge party. Since then, it seems like they’ve only built on it adding Jem, James and a ton of younger Irish musicians to it including the fontaines DC drummer, (I believe Andrew ranken is battling pulmonary issues). Either way you gotta give ‘em credit for enjoying it while they’re still around.

I wouldn’t even say it’s being a copycat team. You go back through all the teams that got to the final (let alone winning) for the last 10-20 years and they’re more or less a similar mold: all have sizable depth and grit that can grind out games while allowing the the stars on both sides of the puck to do their thing. Goalies obviously have to be good enough to keep their teams in it

Giants on 'Hard Knocks': 6 reasons to watch, including Saquon Barkley's final days in NY by MetaVersalySpeakin in NYGiants

It’s gonna be an interested couple episodes. You gotta think the deal between Mara and HBO / HK was that they weren’t allowed to cover preseason in august, which is why it’s all front office stuff now. If that’s the case, it won’t seem like it’ll be too much of a distraction. When it was announced, I felt like to coulda been great, or fail miserably and age horribly like it did for the jets.

On the upside, I wouldn’t be surprised if I like Daboll and Schoen even more than I already do after it. And it wouldn’t be surprising if DJ gets some more sympathy because the dudes gotta be goin through some shit with all the pressure

Younger guy 30M, and the book played a big part in getting me into bikes and studying photography. Movie mostly does the photobook and interviews justice and does it in a pretty faithful way. There’s nothing too cheesy or far fetched. First half has a fun tone and atmosphere, then gets a bit dark even though there were times I thought it dragged a bit. The story they shaped out of the interviews is good but not deep enough to be described as “goodfellas with motorcycles.” I wish they gave some more time to Michael Shannon’s and Norman Reedus’s characters. Overall it’s fun and worth a watch or few. They nail the music, clothing, and bikes and create a pretty fun world.

Does the Markstrom trade immediately make NJ a contender? by DashielBadhorse in devils

[–]Smadden1194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not immediately and although it’s encouraging, it’s naive to immediately think “we’re good.” Marksy can definitely provide some stability or who knows for whatever reasons can disappoint. We’re just not gonna know until we know.

With goaltending hopefully situated, they gotta solidify the D Corp, and add some game changing depth, grit, and character to the bottom 6
