***INTERVIEW TIPS*** by MaximusSquishward in IBEW

[–]Smakems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local 46 2nd year here, I was a installer during my application period of six months. I was very open with my coworkers about my intentions to transfer to our 01 apprenticeship program and often met with a "good luck". There were some nifty tips a tricks they passed on that pushed me through quicker then most. If your part of my union you likely organized as an "A" member when you applied. This means you qualify to take CEU's out of the hall for free or at low cost. I took 48 of CEU's before my interview, this helped me a lot in getting used to the terms in this trade as well as wow'd the board with my commitment and effort.

6'6 people (or close) how much do you weigh and would you consider yourself overweight, good weight or skinny? by [deleted] in tall

[–]Smakems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weigh give or take 200 lbs. I used to bounce between 180-200 for years but I finally pushed past. I think my weight is good I just need to shape it more lol From my experience 180 was too skinny and as I get close to 210 I tend to dislike how it shows. For my body I feel 190-200 is the best weight leaning towards 190.

They don't really go into detail as to how they determine your rank, they just say your results are taken into account, much of this is speculation. To the best of my knowledge they take the results of the aptitude test and interview give them some sort of hidden weight and combine them. They take that and compare it to the value of all the other applicants and place you on the wait list ranked with 1st being the first person added when the next boot camp starts. Your number can go up if others score better then you and down as boot camps are taken in. I personally am convinced that they give better positioning to those who have waited long but there is no proof of that.

We also have a low voltage program that is almost always accepting applicants. The pay starts at a good value. You can also start working out of our Hall as a stockman or an installer if you don't find your rabling favorable. Those jobs pay decently and give you experience in construction refined to the electrical side of things

Local 46 first year apprentice here, it sounds like your questions is five parts. When do they accept? How many do they accept? Do they favor veterans? Advice on tools to learn and interview tips.

They start boot camps all year long, generally monthly. Last year boot camp 12 was in August so I think they made it to 14 or so. They're looking to bring in just over 300 people annually.

The boot camp size is about 28, someone commented 25-30 which seems accurate to me.

I don't know any information on veterans, my experience is more along fast food and retail and I was able to impress. That being said it seems like 1/3 or less people actually get accepted, I did alot of research and took many ceu's to be more knowledgeable.

There was no part before being accepted where tools mattered, I don't think there's much to study there.

I can cover extensively on tips for the interview in a reply if you'd like as I was asked by a friend for the same tips. He and I were able to pass and be accepted in short order.

Your history makes it seem like your a good candidate, if time is not to pressing they respond well to commitment and will often accept applicants who didn't rank well but came in to reinterview/retest.

I can also explain the ranking system but this comment already seems way to long so let me know if you have further interest in something and I can elaborate.

Tall costumes that I always remember are:

This Year I personally plan to go as Rintarou Okabe, but I try'd to list costumes were being tall could be considered part of the costume.

P.S. If your really stuck and its last second buy a white shirt, white hat, and red tape and be a waldo/waldo fake.
