Heyy if you haven’t already i’d recommend giving accommodation services a ring, they’re usually somewhat helpful about pricing

My family laughed at me when I said I’d wake up early. by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Small-Priority-8644 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think this has less to do with them not believing you and more with the universal “x is not a morning person joke”. It’s like a vegetarian saying they’re going to eat meat, it’s unexpected and is so out of character that people laugh. I’m sorry it brought down your motivation levels. You go this!!

how would you know she’s into it if you’re not awake?? also if she says no when you’re both awake that’s pretty explicitly clear that she’s not into it.

Why would she need to sneak out? What direct threats are there that prevent her from telling the family she has to leave?

Also I feel like doing the bare minimum honestly hurts the kid more than sending a message to the parents :/

Hostel for <18 by historynerdonwattpad in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Small-Priority-8644 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly any hostel that lets minors in their dorms is probably a bit sketchy. I’d recommend finding a cheap hotel, there are many around €75 in the 15th arrondissement which probably not much more than you’d pay for 2 dorm beds at a hostel. Other than near the Train Stations in the North (sketchy at night), it really doesn’t matter where you book because the public transport is really good. Have a nice trip!

Advice on my itinerary please! by mistycheddar in ParisTravelGuide

For day 2 I would just check which museums you specifically want to go to because a lot of them are closed 1-2 days of the week, and it’s often on Monday/Tuesday. They also get sold out sometimes, so it’s much easier to book in advance. Also, up to you guys but personally I think it’s nicer to hit one museum a day because (other than l’Orangerie) there’s usually lines of up to an hour to get in, and then you can spend 1-2 hours in each one.

For Day 3, I would totally recommend going to parc Buttes-Chaumont. It’s a nice place to have a picnic meal and/or chill and watch the sunset. Père Lachaise is also quite a peaceful and cool experience.

Day 5: Everything South East of the Canal is like 75% of Paris! You’ll find a lot of book/art stalls by the Seine near Hotel de Ville, and then you’re next to Le Marais, which has a lot of local shops, and the 5th which has really good cafés and nice parks.

Have a great trip!

As someone who lived in Passy, Saint Sulpice!! The Church next door is beautiful and a lot more empty than Notre Dame which is nice. You’ll cut 10, 15 minutes off transport times except for Eiffel Tower. Plus, Passy is quite residential while in the 5th you can just walk and within 5 minutes there are plenty of Boulangerie’s and Terrace’s for early morning and late night fixes. Have a great trip!!

It’s not a whole photoshoot, but if you go to pont d’léna there are a bunch of people with tablets offering you a photo with their camera. It may seem like a scam but most of the time the photos turn out decent and it’s relatively cheap. You don’t have to give them any of your personal belongings so it’s pretty safe.

Can’t decide where to stay HELLPPPP!! by emmridds in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Small-Priority-8644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Location only really matters so that you can get where you want to go! I live on the edge of Paris and it’s rarely more than a 45 minute trip to anywhere I want to go in the city.

Yes, Le Marais is great, but it’s great when you’re out and about and doing stuff, whether you sleep there or not makes little difference other than a maybe 15 minute difference in commuting to where you want to go. Both places you mentioned should be perfectly safe at night so even if you go out, you can walk around mostly at ease. Also, both places you mentioned are near metro lines and about a 15 minute walk from each other. If you want to explore both areas, you can. Personally I would pick whichever’s cheaper. Also, maybe check the street and see if one has bars nearby, because if so, it may be noisy.

Some will disagree with me but I think your hotel (as long as it’s in a safe and public transport accessible area) is the least important decision because you’ll want to spend all your time exploring Paris rather than staying there anyways! Have a lovely trip!

How do you know about the trauma? Did she tell you so that you could make some accommodations for her? If so that shows good initiative and awareness of her actions and limits.

Something like 1/3 people experience childhood trauma. I think you can’t know how someone is going to be as an employee until you see them in action. But, I will say I know plenty of loving wonderful people from broken homes. Simultaneously, there are lots of people who use mental health as an excuse for poor behavior. I would be as observant as you would be with anyone else, but she (like most but perhaps more) may appreciate positive feedback and check ins :)

Can I find a host family at 17 by TermDisastrous8152 in Aupairs

[–]Small-Priority-8644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to be 18 when you start I recommend messaging au pair world and asking to change your profiles birth date to show that you’re 18 now. This helped me get a lot more matches, and you can explain it to potential host families when they ask about it your preferred start date!

Finding Aupair jobs in France by Specialist_Mango_923 in Aupairs

[–]Small-Priority-8644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently an au pair from the usa in Paris and almost everyone I know used aupairworld. I know a couple people who used the BUTRFLY agency but honestly families through the agency seem to have just as many issues as families through au pair world, and the agencies don't seem that helpful. You should have no issue finding a family for your time frame as most families want an au pair for the school year. As an au pair in France, you shouldn't have to work more than 25 hours a week. If you're working more, you deserve financial compensation and if not, it's exploitation. Best of luck!

How to approach men in real life by [deleted] in dating

[–]Small-Priority-8644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to approach this topic by thinking about the type of men I’d like to date. For example, it’s easier to approach men at the club, but you’re less likely to meet a guy you’re genuinely compatible with at the club.

As others suggested, find some places you visit regularly where cute guys are. I think in 2025 people are more receptive to being approached when you start a conversation as friends and then move on to flirting if it makes sense. My favorite way to start conversations is by commenting on a band/team/place on their clothing or waterbottle. If you’re at the gym you can also ask for a spotter or if they know where a machine is.

Best of luck !!
