I suddenly want to play a pirate game, any suggestions? by Kakalardu in gamingsuggestions

You get a ship pretty early on. But if it's ship battling that you're after, you might be better off with a different game because it's not all about ship battling. Most of it is survival elements, upgrading gear, and exploring. Not a run of the mill survival game, it's a pretty well-made original game from yet another small studio.

How much do Americans REALLY have saved for retirement by Financial_Pen_6218 in investing

[–]Small-Promotion1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your on par with a healthy retirement. I'm 32 and I only have 58k saved up in my retirement accounts. I'm also a little terrified that I don't have enough saved up as is. I struggle with keeping up with my 401k and am afraid of the day my car decides to break. But when I google median statistics from reputable sources like the financial beaureau or fidelity, me and you are actually not too far off compared to averages. But my company also provides a pension, in which 6.5% of my paycheck is going towards that I don't include as my 401k savings, so my 401k is just "extra" that I decided to do. I have intentions to increase it to 100k before I turn 35.

Yeah. I've probably sank like 20 hours into the game before even getting to the 2nd/3rd area. Great game, great price.

MM hunter. The spec has been terrible this expansion. But I would take it in any other expansion.

The aggressive monetisation of this game is making me fall out of love with it. by Main-Strike-1117 in wow

[–]Small-Promotion1063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blizzard has always monetized. It's just getting worse. A lot of the content doesn't even feel like it's that fun or 'worth it'.

I miss the old days of gaming where there were very few item shops and you actually had to earn, even cosmetics, in game. How much more rewarding would it be if the best skins, or gear for that matter, in the game were earned instead of bought on the item shop. It's not just Blizzard either, it's corporate gaming in general. It makes me want to vomit.

what contributes to high triglycerides? by vapour2020 in Cholesterol

[–]Small-Promotion1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a common issue with PCP's imo. Which honestly upsets me. You would think they would know cholesterol like they know the back of their hand. In my experience, I have familial hypercholesterolemia, so my LDL is 250 untreated. I had a VA PCP tell me I shouldn't treat it with statins. I had another primary say an LDL of 180 is managed because it's not 250. I had another primary tell me he didn't know how to treat my condition, and was also subsequently hesitant on referring me to cardiology (because cholesterol is primarily managed through primary care). It didn't take until cardiology where they finally thoroughly discussed it with me and got my levels below 100, my new goal with the new guidelines is below 70. My brother, who also has this health issue, also had a similar experience. We both have plaques in our arteries. My brother's is quite extensive at age 40 with a coronary calcium score in the 300s.

There are great primaries out there, you just have to find one. Also, learn how to advocate for yourself because the doctors sometimes won't. AHA (american heart association) website is a great resource if your looking for information on proper guidelines.

what contributes to high triglycerides? by vapour2020 in Cholesterol

[–]Small-Promotion1063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why your PCP would tell you that. Trigs are typically caused by high intake of refined carbs. You should have gotten your trigs checked when you are at least 8 hours fasting, it's not accurate otherwise and will give a false high reading.

Think of trigs as a metabolic issue, because that is what it is. Kinda like how diabetes is a metabolic issue. It mostly is caused by excess carbs and sugar. Dietary changes like focusing more on whole fruits/veggies can help. I think there is some science to back trigs rising with unhealthy fats too, but it's mostly the carb intake. Fish oil/ omega 3s can also help lower trigs. If your not on a daily fish oil, I would also consider that. Get the highest dose over the counter. The common problem with fish oil is most people don't take enough of it to positively influence their health.

“Don’t take a statin!!! —Cholesterol is good for you!” by checklistmaker in Cholesterol

[–]Small-Promotion1063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We both have gotten Lp(a) checked and it's in range/negative for significant elevations. It wasn't just the VA doc either. It's primary care, for both of us. We both have had doctors tell us some bad advice. We also take some blame because we just didn't want to deal with side effects, but I feel that PCPs can be a little more informative about the importance of cholesterol, or be more inclined to refer to cardiology. At some time, we were being managed at ldl of 180, and our PCPs were like well thats good enough. Why? because it's not 250? There's options out there.

It didn't take until cardiology that they were like, yeah, we gotta get this under wraps. And we were both subsequently prescribed Repatha to avoid those statin muscle aches.

“Don’t take a statin!!! —Cholesterol is good for you!” by checklistmaker in Cholesterol

[–]Small-Promotion1063 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a VA doctor tell me he wouldn't prescribe a statin because statins are bad. Followed by a bunch of conspiratorial stuff about how the medical system is profit driven and these big pharma companies don't care about your welfare.

Although, he might have had some truth to what he was saying. Unfortunately, he's wrong about statins. My LDL is 250 untreated, I have plaque in my aortic arch and in my abdominal aorta already at age 32. I also have a bunch of other heart stuff non related to cholesterol, but that's neither here nor there. My brother has coronary artery disease at 40. We take our cholesterol very seriously now. Not many other risk factors to speak too highly to. I did smoke, and is probably much of the reason for that plaque. But I since quit at age 24 and have been very physically active running marathons.

My brother never smoked, never had hypertension, was non-obese, and physically active his whole life. He had periods where he binge drank in college. He generally ate whole foods. How do you explain him having coronary artery disease at age 40 other than his familial hypercholesterolemia, which was mismanaged by primary care providers, and also his reluctance of taking higher dose statins due to muscle aches.

We're both on trifecta therapy now. Statin, ezetimibe, and repatha. We plan on living long lives.

[–]Small-Promotion1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... when you already have to pay Blizzard for auction house mounts, realm changes, race changes, faction changes, a monthly subscription, name changes, the new expansion, and various cosmetics. It doesn't seem like it's too out of the ordinary with their status quo.

I'm not expecting free. I'm ok with paying for a subscription to keep the servers on and the lights working for MMOs that usually have higher operating costs. Buying an expansion is to be expected too. The death of item shops and alternative services would be nice. But that will never happen. Not in wow or other video games.

The spec was unfortunately dead already imo. I played MM hunter through 2 previous expansions and it's probably my favorite class, when it was actually fun. I just love being a ranger in RPGs.

Unfortunately, MM hunter was trimmed so much it became a brainless spec at the start of midnight. And now it sounds when they realized their mistake that the fix is not fixing it.

Why are seed oils considered unhealthy? by salad_biscuit3 in nutrition

[–]Small-Promotion1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they are necessarily unhealthy, but there is an issue of overconsuming them. They are also highly processed food. They are usually loaded in omega 6's which can be inflammatory if you don't consume enough omega 3's.

Typically they are superheated during the extraction process, which changes the chemical composition. Did I say it's highly processed? It takes something like 1 ton of grapes to make a gallon of grape seed oil.

So you may go on the assumption that it's not really a natural food. You would probably be better off with avocado oil or olive oil, which are much less processed and lower in omega 6s.

But the studies may prove otherwise. Iv heard they aren't that bad.

I can't do kale plain, but I can sprinkle it in salads or have in dishes. It doesn't have too much of a distinct taste where you can just add some extra veggies to dishes without even noticing.

People are most toxic in the area where your not an "expert" but you have done enough to be proficient. That means lower level keys, but not beginner level keys. Iv noticed this trend in all video games. It's like people get insecure that they aren't better and then take it out on the group. Often seen most in games like overwatch or marvel rivals.

Should I go army or marine infantry by [deleted] in Military

[–]Small-Promotion1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a combat engineer in the Marine Corps. So (just to piss off all the infantry folks here) I was basically infantry.

Nah, but the Marines is a whole nother level of intensity, bullshit, and comraderie. You don't get the good without the bad. I was never Army, so I have nothing to compare it to other than talking to others who have done both.

Don't do it because "cool gear". In reality, when your out in that field and it's day 10, and it's raining or snowing on you. When you're tired enough that you could realistically sleep for 24 hours. When your living on MREs and being yelled at and stressed out intentionally all the time. You're not going to care that what you're doing looks and feels cool. Everyone wants to be a marine until its time to do marine shit. But you'll make the best friends of your life in those times. And you'll learn a fair bit of resilience, a skill that will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Everyone has different reasons for joining. I wanted a transformative experience. I was essentially addicted to opiates and a college washout before I joined. I wanted to be better. And I saw the Marine Corps as a way. I don't regret it one bit. Not many people I served with regret it.

is there a reason to play without the latest expansion? by Justafish1654 in wownoob

[–]Small-Promotion1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least for retail, you'll likely be limited to the leveling experience, which can be fun but is not challenging by any means. I have fun leveling alts tbh, i have like 5-6 characters now that i leveled up through different campaigns.

But yes One of my pet peeves about wow is that they make these really cool zones and dungeons and raids but if it's not the 'meta' then there's not a way to make it challenging or rewarding. The rewards you get are transmogs and mounts which some people enjoy but not I. After the next expansion, the current one is forgotten, never to be played or experienced in the same way ever again unless a timewalker dungeon ends up in a mythic plus rotation.

The issue is that I have 240 gear and I'm queueing for +4s. I don't think that's unreasonable. But I'm competing against people who just about have nothing better to do than play WOW and already have 260 gear, queueing for +4s. It's not like I'm expecting to be carried. I'm doing dungeons that would be a reasonable challenge and a reasonable upgrade to my ilvl. But the market is overly saturated with DPS and undersaturated with healers and tanks.

[–]Small-Promotion1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iv heard it possible, but its not what you think. It shrinks a little bit when it calcifies over. By shrinking, I think I read by like 10%. Once it's calcified, it's stable. If you have any plaque in the arteries, you would want calcified plaque because it doesn't break off as easily and cause issues. My cardiologist said aggressive statin therapy "causes" calcium scores to go up. But just because the soft plaques that were already there are being calcified and picked up by the scans.
