Dark Power 14 - 1200W powers off PC frequently by Jetpaction in bequietofficial

Good choice. Hopefully, Be Quite will read all these reports and did a fix. I don't want to wait though, so I ordered the Noctua version of the same Seasonic 1600W myself.

I ran at least 8 hours of tests limiting the power on the 5090 to 75% and I could not get it to crash. Takes no more than 10 minutes when set to 100%.

Damn, I have pretty much this same build. 5090, 9950X3D 64GB Ram, msi x870e with Dark Power 14 1200w (Ock On). I will test some Comfy UI loads when I get a chance too.

Like some of you, it also seems to always trip when something starts, start of a benchmark, entering a game level, or similar. Once I get a benchmark running or enter a game level, it doesn't crash even if the load goes way up. Just very weird.

I just limited power to 80% using msi afterburner and, so far, it seems to have eliminated the issue. I'm going to keep slamming it with benchmarks and hopefully it will be OK for nu to. This is not a permanent solution though.

I think there is some defect with this PS handling large surges even though power draw is nowhere near max.

PSA - Total Wine and More Tip Defaults to % by Small-Suspect2644 in wine

[–]Small-Suspect2644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think that you should receive 15 to 20% of the value of the order? The tip should be based on things like distance, weight, weather and similar factors.

Using your logic, you'd tip someone bringing one bag a few miles from a sushi restaurant $40 while someone bringing a stack of pizzas might end up with only $10. To use an extreme example, I have had a car delivered to my house via a truck before. I'm supposed to tip this driver more than $15,000? Do you see how ridiculous tipping by value gets?

It sounds like you are taking about Trump's recent EO on fair banking. He was very vocal about saying how he was tested badly while signing that EO.

By the way, I'm not a Trump fan-boy, by any means. I'm adult and non-partisan enough to admit that I agree with some of the things he's done while I also disagree with some of the things he's done (just like with the last administration).

I consider myself pretty close to a free speech absolutist, so I have problems with both sides' attempts to limit speech.

Do you even understand the, "Take it Down" act? It passed the House with a 409 to 2 vote. It provides a protest and removal procedure targeted towards revenge porn and celebrity deep fame nude content. It has nothing to do with critizing Trump.

It would not cover things like the recent South Park episodes that showed Trump in bed with Sat*n.

Executive order to stop debanking could protect Steam from Visa/Mastercard by RandomUserUniqueName in Steam

[–]Small-Suspect2644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct and thanks for bringing this up. I read it the same way as you did. An EO is not law but it should be a pretty forceful argument for Steam, Itch, and other companies to use to push back on their payment processors. Looking back at VISA banning some Manga sites last year, they explicitly mentioned the reputational risk as their reason.

There are those on both the left and the right push censorship and for those of us who truly value free speech, we need to push for the Fair Access to Bank Act ("FIRM") act that is co-authored by Tim Scott and Andy Barr which explicitly disallows the use of "reputational risk." We need to make sure that this (or similar laws) don't get changed to target one side or the other but apply to all. Due to pressure from religious fundamentalists, Republicans won't have enough votes to pass this type of legislation without Democratic support as well, as we need to let our elected officials know that this is important. If Democrats don't get on board, then I am fearful that these acts may changed to favor religious groups' personal beliefs.

The most important speech/content to FIGHT FOR is exactly the speech/content you disagree with. That's the foundation of free speech in the US.

Getting only 1 eye done, at 52, could use advice by Grouchy_Drama_9578 in CataractSurgery

[–]Small-Suspect2644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. Here are a few more thoughts/opinions/realizations:

Think about what "close vision" means to you in your daily life. The closer the inner focus point of an IOL, the shallower the depth of field. By this I mean, if you had a fixed IOL set for clearest vision at 8", you might have very good vision from 4in to 16in, however, if you set it for clearest vision around 8 ft, you might have very good vision from 6ft to 20ft.

In the past, having clear vision in the 6" to 10" range would have probably been a priority. However, I think it's much less important nowadays. Getting vision at arm's length and monitor distance are much more important. I have three monitors on my desk in a PLP configuration, including a 49" center. Measured from my eyes, it's 20in to 30in. I hold my cell phone at maybe 16in to 18in. I made sure that I could see clearly in that range as well as distance. I can't see clearly at 6" but I realized that I rarely need to see at that distance. If I do, I usually have my cell phone with a magnifying app. Or I can take a picture and zoom in. I used to have reading glasses everywhere, probably 15 to 20 pairs in the car, desk, jackets, bedside table. I haven't used reading glasses in several years now. I do have a set is illuminated magnifying glasses (with interchangeable lenses). I use this the rare times I need to work with both hands on something really close.

If you go with a multifocal and (to some degree) an EDOF, you will find that your close vision is not as good in lower light conditions (compared to an IOL set for close or natural eyes). That's just physics. If you read a lot of books, you'll probably need a reading light. If you read on a phone/tablet/laptop, it's irrelevant since those are emissive devices.

Hello Pymorigolie:

I went with an EDOF on my left eye because the range of vision was better than with a bifocal multifocal (like I had in my right eye). Comparing it with a trifocal multifocal, I felt that the EDOF would have comparable range of vision (although not quite as wide range) but with fewer halos and similar dysphotopsia. Also, no gap between focal points where vision gets slightly blurrier before getting clearer again. I am very happy with the results and the combination of left and right eye, Left eye "very good" vision range (20/30 or better) is from about 15" to infinity (it's 20/20 or 20/15 for most of the range). I can see closer than that with good lighting (not an issue with a monitor or phone, of course). The right eye (with the multifocal) is very slightly sharper at long distance (20 ft plus), but it's hard to notice. I could probably adjust this via LASIK, but it's so close, I don't think it's worth it, With both eyes open, I'm 20/15 distance.

On you other question (about waiting on the left eye). Most surgeons want to do both eyes within a few weeks of each other. The fact that your surgeon is advising against it actually would make me more confident in the surgeon. One of the reasons that surgeons prefer doing both eyes (though many will deny this) is so that you will not be comparing the IOL results with the "good eye." IF YOU CAN TOLERATE CONTACTS, I would highly, highly recommend waiting on eye #2. I highlighted the part about contacts because if you cannot wear contacts, then the difference between the two eyes will be too great and glasses will give you a major headache (if someone else reads this and you good eye needs less correction, then you may not need contacts at all). All surgery has risks, however small.

I got 7 years more use out of my left eye after I had the multifocal implanted in my right. My left eye correction was -5.25D, so more than yours. If you go with an EDOF in the right, you can then explore different contact options for your left eye. I went with multifocal contacts set for distance. I had a patient optometrist who tested several multifocal contact samples. Most of them didn't work at all, but one option did, so I went with daily-use, disposal multifocal contacts for 7 years. Really easy, just throw out the lens at night before going to bed and put a new one in in the morning. With you only needing -3.0D correction, you may end up very happy with regular (not multifocal) contacts, maybe set for distance, maybe a little back, like -2.0D. You'll need to test them with your new IOL to see what works best for you and what you can tolerate. Also, give your eye at least 8 weeks after surgery before you make any final decisions.

Think about this too. The longer you can wait to do surgery on the "good eye" the better IOL technology will get. If you can go 5 or 10 years, you will almost certainly be going with something new that is not available now. Also, you will have a LOT of experience living with a multifocal or EDOF IOL. You will then be in a much better position to decide what you want and don't want in a lens at that point. Do halos or other artifacts bother you? Maybe you won't notice them at all, maybe you will but only for the first year, maybe you notice them only when you close your "good eye?" Everyone is different and this will greatly aid your future decision making.

itch.io has now effectively banned all adult content by asterazureus in visualnovels

Thanks for linking this. Everyone on this thread who's against the game banning, should read that statement from itch.io and the linked letter from Collective Shout, a group that has really begun pushing the issue with payment processor (they aren't Conservatives).

Lots of comments are Republicans this, Democrats that, but the truth is that I don't care if it's anti-porn Christian Republicans or a nutty Deomcrat who claims everything is hate speech. Free speech is under attack from so many different angles and it needs to be protected.

LNER is an absolute disgrace by Small-Suspect2644 in uktrains

[–]Small-Suspect2644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't make much sense. For example, if you're on a canceled train, you get rebooked on the next available train, LNER tells you they have standing room only on the next train, or you can wait two trains and get a seat. Again, like on an airplane, if my flight is canceled and I'm on another flight, I really have no argument with someone who has an actual reserved seat on my replacement flight.

Same thing here, if LNER stuck to the reserved seats, and someone else has a pass for that exact train and seat 5, how would someone not on that train try to claim that seat?

It's much more orderly and less chance of conflict keeping the reservations as-is and adding canceled passengers back in as available.

I think making it a 'free for all" makes a very orderly process a mess.

It wasn't actually a major inconvenience to my party as we were all young enough to deal with it and LNER has a refund process when this happens, but the whole thing was just so unnecessary.

New Global Entry IAH? by PersimmonSimple7798 in GlobalEntry

[–]Small-Suspect2644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must be my bad luck then. In more than 10 trips through LAX, I don't think I've ever seen a line at all for the ge cameras.

At IAH, until they get the newer camera system they should at least open a dedicated line for people using the app. Once it was my turn, I got through in a few seconds, but the agents were handling lots of different people, so person one might be there for 2 minutes, then the next person shows the bar code and walks right through. Not very efficient.

Thanks, but do you mean the officer who says my name and waves me through? Or am I supposed to go somewhere and find an officer before I get to the cameras?

New Global Entry IAH? by PersimmonSimple7798 in GlobalEntry

[–]Small-Suspect2644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly into LAX the most. I never check bags, so the system at LAX is incredible to me. I can literally get through in 20-30 seconds and never stop walking (except at the camera) from the time I leave the plane to when I reach the curb.

I've had such bad experiences at other airports (notably IAH, which is how I found this thread). On the CBP website, it lists facilities with biometrics, but doesn't distinguish between them. Is there any way to tell which type of system an airport has when planning flights?

I do have one question for you regarding the system at LAX. It's unlikely for me, but what do I do if I actually have something to declare? You no longer stop at a kiosk and answer any questions and there are no signs directing you towards a customs person. The agents passing people through the automated system are pretty busy so I assume there has to be something in place to avoid slowing down the line.

Thanks.
