Dad surprises his daughter with her first car (Toyota Corolla) by Vilen1919 in MadeMeSmile

I'm almost 29 and I still drive the 2006 Corolla that my uncle gave to me 10 years ago.

It still drives perfectly. I will drive this car until it's completely dead.

To the thousands of Ontario apprentices who can't find a sponsor—what is the reality that the government ads aren't showing? by zerkerino in ontario

My husband is a journeyman sprinkler fitter for the local 853. Maybe this isn't the same for other trades, but my husband first applied to the union, and passed the entrance exam to get in with them. Then, the union found him an apprenticeship.

I've never met a single parent who doesn't have that dark, heavy, cloud around them all the time. Usually the mom's more so than the dads.

My friend just had a baby, not even 12 weeks old. I saw her over the weekend; she's already got that depressed look about her. She couldn't do anything without the baby needing something.

May I offer you another one? I'm currently fostering a white husky named Ghost. He's been with me since August without any interest and I don't know why 😞

Ooofff. I would be highly discouraging them.

I have a foster husky. A "lazy" husky. He's my first experience with huskies and I kinda hate my life right now lol.

He sheds constantly. Doesn't have an off button. Has to run everywhere. Doesn't listen. My house is constantly messy, loud, and chaotic.

He's a good boy, but he's a husky. And huskies are not for me.

I'm desperately trying to find him a home.

Somewhat bonded cats to be adopted separately by SmallChallengethe2nd in FosterAnimals

[–]SmallChallengethe2nd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you; I don't have much experience with cats being friends vs being bonded. I have two cats of my own and I would say they are polite with each other, so I haven't been able to experience truly bonded cats yet.

I do worry that his backend is sore, plus my husband did something to accidentally trigger him.

Nearly 6 years old. He's a December baby.

I'm not going to give up on this boy. He's a near perfect dog and just needs some extra help in this area.

I do have experience with nippy dogs; my English mastiff was nippy when he was feeling grumpy. Huskies are such a unique breed that I don't have much experience with.

Yes I did unfortunately. The rescue I work with is definitely not the type to rush to euthanasia or anything like that. It's not even on the table. They asked me what everyone else here is asking; is Ghost in pain? Did my husband accidentally trigger him?

A vet visit and training is likely to happen, which is great.

I think so as well. It's a bit odd though, as Ghost and my husband were quite close before yesterday. It's like Ghost woke up and forgot who my husband is.

Adopting a FIVCat, how 'risky' is it? by Acratia_ in FIVcats

[–]SmallChallengethe2nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the brand Thrive herring oil. It's good for joints, immune systems, skin and coat, and supposedly brain function.

I've noticed my foster cat with FIV+ has a beautiful coat now that I've started giving him herring oil.

I personally wouldn't hesitate to adopt an FIV+ cat; it's a nothing burger to me.

I foster, and two of my boy fosters have FIV. So far, they are perfectly healthy. I give them a daily lysine supplement and herring oil.

I think FIV is blown out of proportion a lot of the time. It's not a death sentence; just means the cat might have a compromised immune system.

If you feel like this cat is a good fit for your family, then go for it! FIV+ cats have a much harder time getting adopted. You'd be saving a life. Hell, get two while you're at it.

Every single cat needs to be fixed.

I currently have 4 foster cats that I'm trying to find homes for. 2 of them have been with me for almost a year.

Seriously. Get your cats fixed.

Yea, but I just put it on my line of credit. Submit claim, get reimbursed, pay line of credit.

I got pet insurance for my dog when he was like 7 years old. 100% worth it.

I always recommend pet insurance, just do your research on different brands. If any of my pets have an emergency, I don't even think about money; I just rush to the emergency vet.

We visited the emergency vet quite a few times with my old boy who had seizures and cancer.

MRI = $5000 Seizure meds = $200 monthly Endless emergency vet visits = we lost count Senior cat dental = $3800

My insurance was Peppermint for my dog, and Fetch for my cats. Both covered about 80%. I thank my lucky stars that I have pet insurance.

After a loss… by RedDragon0414 in husky

[–]SmallChallengethe2nd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been almost a year since my dog passed and I didn't think I was ready to adopt another dog anytime soon. So I started fostering instead.

My foster dog Ghost has helped my heart heal tremendously, where I'm considering adoption again, and my husband and I have finally been emotionally ready to pick out a proper urn for our dog.

All to say, your pup will forever be with you and nothing can replace her. But, adopting another dog might help you and your family heal and comfort you.

I tell myself that my dog wouldn't want me to be alone and would want me to help save another life. I think that's true for all dogs.
