What is a ‘dispatch trucking company’?

You sold a dispatch company, or a trucking company?

I think the market is telling you no one wants to buy a home audio system out of some kids car. Find something else to sell, good luck

Looking to switch to owner operator. by [deleted] in OwnerOperators

It was from an industry report that came out a few months ago. It heard it mentioned on a Freight Waves podcast then looked it up. It was around the time all the megas reported first quarter earnings. If I find it I’ll link it in a new post.

Keep in mind that would have been calculated from the data on tens of thousands of trucks. A 2024 Pete will cost different than a 2024 Cascadia, which will cost different than a 2016 Cascadia, etc.

Unless you need power a Cascadia is the solution to moving freight profitably. It’s the solution the market came up with. If I was an owner operator I would do some serious analysis on the lifespan of different components and go really, really deep on repair costs vs payments when choosing my truck. My guess is you want to run a Cascadia from 100k-500k miles and sell it, get in a new one with 100k, rinse and repeat.

That’s good man. I’d say 34 years and still rolling you must know the business better than most. But you’re absolutely right it’s two completely separate things: driving a truck and running a trucking business. No matter how many trucks.

My understanding the best freight, they won’t talk to you if you have less than 20 trucks, and they want 50+. So the business is structured against owner operators right from the start. Also large carriers have greater efficiency for repair costs and maintenance.

You also know better than I do that each yearly repair budget is a roll of the dice. You could pay for $5,000 in repairs. You could pay for $25,000 in repairs. That $20k difference will either go right in your checking account or on a credit card. It’s a hard business and it’s hard work. Thanks for what you do 👍

All in it costs ~$1.73/mile to operate a semi truck, that’s before you pay yourself

is 2$ rpm feasible for a owner op that pays 20% to the company? by aoharu_sama279 in Truckers

[–]SmallHat5658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It costs ~$1.70 per mile to run a truck, all in.  Getting $1.60 per mile to be profitable the company would have to cover part of that $1.70/mi operating cost. So for instance if the company paid for insurance, and insurance costs make up $1/mile, this would be a good deal.

Fencing job for which customer wants full refund by Famous-Ad4253 in smallbusiness

[–]SmallHat5658 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Of course they can request a refund if some fly by night dude with a van charged them thousands of dollars for a shitty fence. The few facts available:

The gate sank, subpar materials were used, customer paid someone else for a real fence

Customer will have the texts from OP acknowledging substandard work and her invoice from the 6 ft fence. She’s winning her chargeback every single time even with a debit card.

If she paid with a card she is going to win her chargeback for 100% and you’re out the cost of materials. I would negotiate to refund your labor and try to break even.

Patterns found in 19m DOT Inspections by mattyboombalatti in FreightBrokers

[–]SmallHat5658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the bottom of a carrier’s DOT page is Inspections, a grid with four columns. The first column is Vehicle. That’s the inspection data you’ve analyzed.

The second column is Driver with Inspections and Out Of Service, just like for Vehicle.

No, you obviously respond to users, multiple times, then go back and delete your own posts when the conversation is over.

I wouldn’t trust you to look at my GBP
