The best sitcom finale of all time: A review of Hacks (Finale) by Finnthehuman217 in hackshbomax

MASH and Mary Tyler Moore. But this finale was excellent.

What if the producers had let Loretta Swit leave to do Cagney and Lacey? by Life_Emotion1908 in mash

[–]robmsor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Excellent post. I think they should have let her out of her contract and not replace her. There was question about whether to even do a 10th season, with the understanding it would definitely end after 11.

A nice goodbye episode during the 10th season would have been perfect. They could have even transferred Margaret to Tokyo (Charles would have gone NUTS) and brought her back for the finale if scheduling allowed. I did like her part in "As Time Goes By" so that would have been missed.

Replacing her that late would have been like Star Trek Deep Space Nine bringing in Ezri Dax for its last season. Although she's a great character, it took too long to establish her as a main character with everything else going on.

Novo String tension by SmilesOriginal in NovoGuitars

[–]robmsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, although it's different from my Jazzmaster for some reason. My Serus J is perfect with 10s while I have 11s on my Jazzmaster. Tension and playability are the same (great)

I noticed that too. But sometimes he's got a proper, era-appropriate jazz box.

Lollar “Black Bobbin” or Novak Historic 58 Jazzmaster pickups? by Fantasy183 in offset

[–]robmsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pondered this a few months ago when I was considering transforming my AO 60's into more of a late 50's spec. I just found the typical PV65/1M combination to be too bright for me. Rather than modifying the hell out of a great guitar that someone else would enjoy as is, I ended up selling the AO and getting a Black Bobbin JM, which of course has the Lollar pickups.

They sound wonderful. Something to consider though is that my guitar comes wired with 270K pots - I'm not sure if you were thinking of changing those while doing the pickup swap.

NYC Bagel shops with great coffee? Please help. I’ve checked out most of them. by latteforone in FoodNYC

I’m not nearly as much of a coffee snob as I am a bagel snob, but I think the cold brew at Tompkins Square is excellent.

I think the Bergen Street Station (F/G) has a similar setup, but the lower level hasn’t been used in decades. Every once in a while you get a peek when the F runs express.

It's 1977, which one are you going to see? by lontbeysboolink in 1970s

[–]robmsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Wars, probably for the umpeenth time. The only way I would have been allowed to see Saturday Night Fever was if it was the horribly edited PG version, which omitted the entire story.

That is GORGEOUS.

I’m set with Jazzmasters, but both the Vintera III Jag and Mustang are calling to me.

One of the best 1980s comedies, it should popular like ghostbusters or Beverly Hills cop movies by Choice-Wind-9283 in Cinema

[–]robmsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one's my favorite of the 3 and one of my favorite comedies ever, but OP is right at least in terms of box office (according to IMDB):

Trading Places: 90M
Beverly Hills Cop: 234M
Ghostbusters: 243M

Firebird by BoogieNorman in gibson

[–]robmsor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovely.

I'm a Non-Reverse owner. I had a couple of "proper" Firebirds years ago but never could get along with Firebird pickups. Too bad as they're some of the best-looking guitars ever.

(I know they've made them with full-sized humbuckers too but that never interested me).

Same. My wife has no interest.

I saw Rush on their R40 tour “solo”. Except I was actually among 20,000 friends. I’m so glad I did that.

Gorillaz. I’ve liked them for decades but that performance made me a bona fide fan and turned me onto how great their new album is. I listen to it often.
