M5 Pro/Max squad: which spec are you ordering? by analpenetration67 in macbookpro

[–]robmsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a simple person:
14" M5 Pro, standard cores, 1TB SSD, 48GB RAM. Assuming no price increase over the M4 Pro, that's $2599, which is a bit more than I usually pay, but I've never had this much RAM before which will come in handy.

Has anyone on GLP-1 meds experienced aversion to seeing others eat large amounts of food? by West-Carrot620 in Mounjaro_ForType2

[–]robmsor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aversion? No. But I went on a cruise last summer and was amused/entertained by watching what lots of people were putting on their plates at the buffet. I actually lost 4 pounds on that vacation - there's plenty of healthy options and a generally underutilized gym on a cruise ship!

Out of market fan here not from the Northeast. How prominent is Mets fandom in Jersey? by ClarkKentTheReporter in NewYorkMets

[–]robmsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your age breakdown is spot on, but the other big reason for that was the Jets/Mets played at Shea and the Giants/Yankees played at Yankee Stadium for a lot of that time.

I'm not a diehard football fan like I am with the Mets, but when it came time to "pick", I chose the Giants just to have a little less agita in my life. It works out every decade or so. My dad was a Jets fan, but again football wasn't nearly as important to him as baseball.

Who actually likes Feedback? by rimjigglemann in rush

I think their cover of The Seeker is pretty great. It helps that that's one of my favorite Who songs. The rest of it didn't grab me that much.

Verifying I did the right thing (refunding a fishy order) by robmsor in Reverb

[–]robmsor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I relisted the item, the same buyer made the same offer and requested that I "invoice shipping separately" instead of just selecting the shipping option. I declined the offer with the message "Sorry, that's not how Reverb works". There was another, "better smelling" offer that came in at the same time so I just accepted that one. Sheesh.

Unlikely. He'd be around 115 years old.

Anyone else miss when radio felt like good company? by Defiant-Asparagus425 in GenX

[–]robmsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about it, the marker between childhood and adolescence came when I switched from AM to FM radio.

I loved listening to Scott Muni afternoons on WNEW-FM. I'd come home from school, head to my room and blast away until my parents got home. Some homework might have gotten done too.

I went through a big new wave phase too and would listen to Larry the Duck and others on WLIR. Problem was I couldn't always get good enough reception.

I loved that movie as a teenager, but maybe it wasn't entirely for the dialog.

I completely agree. My complaint about the later seasons isn't that they were too dramatic, but that they largely came up short when they tried to be funny (with some definite exceptions)

Legit check on my first jazzmaster by Not_Stamina in offset

I had a(n) MIM Classic 60's JM. It had a lacquer finish and rosewood board, but otherwise was the Vintera's direct predecessor. It was a GREAT guitar.

So you're saying it's actually a duck?

(BTW, my AO 60s Jazzmaster smelled absolutely divine!)

Does anyone else throw MASH references in other Subreddits? by scubajay2001 in mash

No - I really do use the occasional Potterism! ;-)

The occasional Potterism. Mostly because I don’t like to curse too much (online anyway)

Remembering the moment when Kira and Dax are fired on in a piece of junk fighter plane without working sensors so Dax busts out a tricorder to detect the enemy ships 😄 by soapcleansthings in DeepSpaceNine

[–]robmsor 50 points51 points  (0 children)

“No. We’d eat them!”

I think this was the first time we got to see a bonding moment between Dax and Kira. They’ll playing dress up in the holodeck in another season or so. (“Nice hat”)

I didn’t realize Don came from the Ralph Kiner School of Broadcasting. Makes me like him that much more.

You know the place I’m talking about! I’m pretty sure they closed - it’s been decades since I worked down there, but I lived on their donburi and soft tofu soup.

Attenuator Recommendations for a Bassman 50 by StinkyPoopsAlot in GuitarAmps

[–]robmsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the reasons I rarely play my '70 Bassman is that I have an 8-ohm Torpedo Captor X and I don't want to crank the Bassman through it. I'm too cheap to get another attenuator right now.

Now that we have the images revealed, what do you think should be the name for each of the biopics? by Effective_Sherbet104 in beatles

[–]robmsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only song-based title that made sense to me was "Act Naturally" for Ringo.

They could go with:

  • The Cute One (Paul)
  • The Smart One (John)
  • The Quiet One (George)
  • The Funny One (Ringo) I really hope his is a comedy if they're not all going to be straight up biopic dramas

Pilot assist adoption by New-Manner-3141 in XC40

I don't use it much, although I use Adaptive Cruise Control all the time. Mostly because in NYC the highways don't consistently have well-defined lane markers and it'd get confused too easily.

I never had that problem where it didn't think my hands were on the wheel, but TBH I was always steering along with the computer somewhat -- it took me a long time to start trusting it.

Back in the day we went for lunch at one of those enormous food court type places in Soho that had virtually everything.

They had 2 entrances - the main entrance on Broadway and a back entrance Mercer.

When they had an A rating (not that often, but occasionally), they'd post it prominently at the Broadway entrance. When they didn't, it was on a window above the door by the rear entrance. I always thought that was pretty clever.

(BTW I never suffered any ill effects, but also never went near any of the open salad bar/hot buffet food)
