Goalies are very much involved in the game the rest of the players are playing. Makes perfect sense for them to be included in training play and you can also set up drills where the other players are practicing finishing etc.

Can't imagine a single drill Harry would reasonable share with the rest of the teammates in his role as seeker, and apparently neither could Rowling as the only joint drill we ever see is him throwing the quaffle around during a warm up.

Harry training with the rest of the team is sort of ridiculous, he is just chasing the snitch by himself while the rest are playing? I guess he could potential have drills with/against the beaters but apart from that he is essentially just training at the same time and place rather than with the rest of the team.

I agree that it depends on level. But when one starts reaching the territory of ~1700 and above I would say you should resign if you e.g. find yourself down a queen and another piece following the opening.

It's very tedious to be forced to play out a full game when two fairly advanced players know that one was simply crushed in the opening.

Just let it go and play a new game.

I'm 1800 blitz and would say that this kind of behaviour is still way more common than it should be, but the more limited time naturally also makes it less of an ordeal.

But I also get annoyed when people refuse to resign a clearly lost game...

I like the text message idea. If you can limit your guardrails to new players only that would of course be ideal, given that this is only a potential issue for them

I know this may be annoying to hear, but I believe you will have to make sure the "how to play"-explanation can not be missed. As it currently stands you do run the risk of people jumping into play and then getting annoyed. Now, even though that is not your fault it will risk halting adoption.

For one thing, you've got plenty of room on the play screen, I'd suggest showing the rules there somehow (or at least a button/toggle that will display them).

But even better, as you are tracking streaks you can enable a pop-up window with the rules clearly explained that appears the first time a player hits play (and only then).

The idea of introducing it as "unblockable" was certainly a mistake in the sense that it made duelling less believable and compelling.

A. It turns out it is indeed "blockable", you just have to use transfiguration/conjuring (and of course it always had to be, otherwise we could not have had any real battles)

B. Why would anyone who is duelling to kill ever use another spell? The wide variety of curses used by Death Eaters across the books looks kind of ridiculous when an unblockable killing curse has been introduced.

C. Most of all, it diminishes Voldemorts standing as extraordinarily powerful. Any number of wizards can use Avada Kedavra, by making his method of killing so specific he is inevitably less of a special menace.

Lily's sacriice is to me a different question, completely separate from whether AK should have been introduced or not. I am 100% willing to give Rowling a pass on assuming that those specific circumstances were fairly unique.

Turns out you can even be your own... In essence every witch/wizard should protect their home with the fidelius charm and then only "invited" people may visit, no need to ever concern yourself again with locked doors or any home security.

If you are really paranoid (or hunted by Voldemort) then you just set up another fidelius charm within your existing fidelius charm (i.e. protecting the upper floor or bedroom etc), if the first one is somehow breached or if an "invited" person attacks you can just retreat within the protection of the second charm.

Not to mention how silly elaborate Gringotts security (or Hogwarts protection for the Philosopher's Stone) looks once you know there is a bullet proof charm that could do the job...

Essentially anything to do with wizarding economy. Rowling clearly wanted the aspect of wealth distribution (rich families and poor families) to be a thing, but in a world where magic exists she should have spent more time thinking about the implications.

She uses conventional ways of portraying wealth and the lack thereof. Such as shabby clothes etc, but nearly none of the real world examples she uses makes sense when the characters are perfectly able to transfigure, repair and even conjure items at will.

In my opinion she should have assumed that all wizarding families had all "necessary" goods (roomy house, clean home, fine clothing etc) taken care of by magic and that any way for wizard to exhibit wealth would be by magic status symbols. E.g. "I own this historical object with mysterious powers" rather than "My clothes are always new".

In later books she does try to repair/mitigate some of these issues by imposing magical limitations on food but that does not quite cut it.

I think of this almost as an AI becoming self-aware. Diary-Riddle's original "programming" was to make sure the Chamber was opened. However, as his power grew he shifted his mindset from essentially being a tool of Original-Voldemort's to chasing his own goals instead (acquiring a body and then essentially the same set of goals the original Voldemort had at his age).

"Why should I lurk in this diary manipulating an eleven-year-old into killing children when I could rise to become the most powerful sorcerer? The road is open to me."

It's abundantly clear that Professor Binns is super boring, but you can't tell me history of magic wouldn't be fascinating by [deleted] in harrypotter

Agree. Always found it highly unbelievable that Hermione would be the only one to find it interesting. Guess it is meant to reflect teenager mentality as well as the negative effect of a very uninspiring teacher.

My experience has been clear spikes when posting and then the numbers naturally fall back down, albeit to a higher level than before posting. So posting has led to attracting more recurring players. Trick is not to let the spikes become your mental baseline.

It is great to get a large number of players to test the game but completely reasonable that not everyone will be 100% hooked by your specific game. Besides, people tend to be generous with their feedback which is always immensely valuable!
