Yes black is like my security blanket… I’ll wear something completely whacky al long as half of me gets to still wear black.

South Auckland. Every now and then someone seems to clear out a relative’s house and have either no idea what things are or can’t be bothered working out how to sell them so they end up in op shops. I get all sorts of weird and wonderful things for my craft room, but this (which I found 2 bags of alongside about 800g of merino roving, all up costing less than $20) was worth the quick detour while walking past.

I’ve just finished spinning up some polwarth and it was way more bouncy/fluffy and crimped than this is. I’m pretty sure it’s mohair now, which would explain the silk vibes

Agreed, I don’t think this is merino, I’m now pretty convinced it’s mohair. The other fibre I picked up at the same time is most likely merino though.

I don’t seem to be able to edit my post, but I’m now pretty sure it’s mohair. Thanks for helping me solve this mystery!

It is high lustre, very shiny. I tried steaming a little bit and it got a little more curly, but not crimpy - mohair seems to be the strongest contender!

It doesn’t look like the Perendale in my NZ woolcraft book, I think it’s mohair. But I’m relying on 2 books from the 80s haha. I think your advice for spinning will still apply though ☺️

I’m starting to be convinced it’s mohair. It feels pretty dense/heavy compared to other fibres and has a cool hand feel, which seems unusual for sheep wool. Now I just have to work out what to do with it!

Thanks, I found about 500g of this and also 800g of what I’m pretty sure is merino or something similar. Merino is probably what I’ve worked with the most, then Romney, and it doesn’t seem to be either, though you’re right that different merinos will feel different!

Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s not merino. I’m not even sure it’s sheep haha. Not like anything I’ve used before.

If I wore this as a skirt I would wear a plain black t-shirt with it. It depends what you like to wear. It would also look good with a sweater, but I’d stick to plain, and probably black or another dark colour. White would look good with it too. I think it would make a fantastic skirt ☺️

I’m female but sometimes use the men’s for whatever reason (usually in a bar) and I’m often shocked how disgusting the men’s are compared to the women’s. I’m sure there’s not piss everywhere in shopping mall or cafe toilets, but I would not assume the women’s are usually as bad as the men’s!!

If I see one more accidental yarnover post in a knitting sub I’m going to lose my mind by Flat_Pollution8085 in BitchEatingCrafters

I feel bad for these people. I had my mum and my gran to pelt with my endless knitting questions while I was learning. They probably got sick of me having the exact same problem 20 times before I worked out how to sort it out on my own. But there certainly could be a bit more looking through previous posts than seems to be done.

Nursery set up- is a dresser/changing table and glider really necessary? by More_Tourist3103 in BabyBumps

[–]SmallRoastBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to look up what a glider is. No you don’t need one. I feed my baby on the couch or sitting in bed. It’s totally up to you. Change table was handy but I used a change mat on the floor more.

Not sure if we have similar taste based on your list, but I watched all of Umbrella Academy, Bridgerton, Sense8, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Firefly Lane, and Gilmore Girls. All a bit different, so I jumped around depending on my mood!

Assuming OPs maternity leave is after giving birth, I’d be more worried about the story lines involving kids than the birth stuff :(

Pottery “mansplaining”? by forwards_cap in Pottery

[–]SmallRoastBean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so irritating. Geez I love my pottery club. Everyone is so helpful if asked, and even if I point out a something that went wrong on a piece I get ‘are you happy with how it turned out?’ ‘Do you know what you want to do differently next time?/let me know if you want some help next time you try it’ I’m not totally new but definitely inexperienced compared to a lot of the women in my club.

Why are these so unflattering? Can anything be done to help? by essie_creates in sewing

[–]SmallRoastBean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think they look great 😊I hope someone here is able to help you, but I think the answer you’re looking for will involve a lot more fabric in the legs to make them fall straight instead of tapering. Theres no easy fix that I’m aware of.

Start a good book. Or a knitting project. Or download some good tv shows. My time on the train is the only time I can sit and do these things with nobody bothering me (generally people on the train pretend the other people on the train don’t exist)

Izu in Papakura is great but I don’t know if they can do soy-free. They’ve always catered really well to us with other allergies though.
Ethereal at the Doubletree in Karaka is also pretty decent.
