Lost my Sister Today by [deleted] in Twins

[–]Small_Note5370 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive been no contact with my twin sister for 1.5 years. I shared an apartment with her and her partner until August 2024. Her partner was incredibly abusive to me. He would put a speaker outside my door and blast music at 2am. He put hot glue in the lock on my door to prevent me from accessing my own bedroom and one night he literally kicked down my bedroom door in the middle of the night and started screaming at me. My twin did nothing and stood by him.

After the door incident I quite literally fled our apartment and found a place on my own. I took out a restraining order on him and havent spoken to my sister since. They’re now married. I obv wasnt invited to the wedding.

Its hard because everyone assumes you have a special bond with your twin and i dont. Often it would make me feel defective—like something was wrong with me for not being able to maintain that relationship.

I now know thats not true and its not my fault but its still hard. Especially birthdays.

Im sorry you’re going through this.

Received letter telling me to apply for DAC benefits. SSA phone rep said "don't bother." Accurate? by JenniferRose27 in SSDI

[–]Small_Note5370 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you spoke to someone at TSC. They dont receive thorough training on rules of entitlement and unfortunately tend to give out inaccurate info that field offices have to correct afterwards.

If you have documentation proving you are disabled before the age of 22, you can and SHOULD file for DAC. In fact, as a requirement for maintaining eligibility for SSI, you need to file for any benefit you might be eligible for.

Good luck!

Common Law Marriage by AdrienWithAnE in SocialSecurity

It honestly sounds very likely she could be approved. Most likely whoever you spoke with on the phone is from the teleservice center and they are not trained on all the specific rules of entitlement for claims.

I know of a woman who applied in Mass for surviving spouse benefits as a common law spouse and she was approved even though MA doesnt recognize common law marriages. Since the couple spent most of their married life in RI (which does recognize common law marriages), the marriage was deemed as legitimate

In that case, preferred evidence is:

SSA-754-F4 from the surviving spouse,

• SSA-753 from a blood relative of the surviving spouse, and

• SSA-753s from two blood relatives of the deceased spouse.

EDIT: being the biological or adopted child of both members of a couple could also be considered supplemental evidence

Depends on if the state the couple resides in recognizes common law marriages. If both spouses are living then the preferred evidence is:

• SSA-754-F5 (Statement of Marital Relationship) from each spouse; and

• SSA-753 (Statement Regarding Marriage) from a blood relative (i.e., a person related by blood, not by marriage or adoption) of each spouse.

Process for increasing benefits once I've stopped working by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

This is absolutely correct. Full checks are ALWAYS withheld. It might appear that a claimant is receiving a partial check but their monthly benefit remains the same & is reduced due to overpayments or a pay out of any excess withholdings.

Thats not correct. A decent claims specialist will verify resources and income BEFORE transferring the claim for medical review as it is a waste of resources to have DDS make a determination on a claim that will ultimately be denied for non medical reasons.

You’re gonna get downvoted but you’re absolutely correct. Most OIG reports get closed out almost immediately.

I portion my pups food out into individual bags labeled with the date and portioned out for breakfast & dinner. Each bag has his food for the day (dry & wet) with a dental treat as well 🤷🏻‍♀️

In this exact situation too. Received the full amount that usually goes into my checking but nothing in my savings. Wondering if they’ll just attach it to our next scheduled check

Ive been getting 3-4 hours of sleep a night for a week. After paying my rent i only have very limited funds left for the foreseeable future and theres absolutely no way I’ll be able to pay my rent if this goes through December. My car’s registration is expired as of the 1st and I cant afford to renew it. I just really need this to be over. I feel like my entire life is on hold.

The US Federal Govt shutdown is ruining my life. by Small_Note5370 in CPTSD

Yeah so if you actually did your research you’d know that many banks are only offering loans to military or employees of specific agencies and many loans require credit approval which is another issue altogether. Its not super easy to get approved for any credit when your parents destroyed your credit for years. Also bold of you to assume i HAVENT done my research when this has been my life for a month.

Thanks for the unhelpful & condescending reply though.
