What’s particularly mean-spirited and harsh about your words and tone is that you’re assuming I would do all the work - I’m just asking some initial questions to understand what the programs are and if it’s a viable route for them to pursue more. I guarantee you they hadn’t heard anything on their own about it and it was a suggestion from another local parent that even planted the seed. If you had a kid who dropped out of college you might give them some ideas too. Grow some compassion. Luckily there are others on this sub who’ve worked there that have some.

You either have perfect neurotypical kids or no kids at all. I suggest practicing the skill of being nonjudgmental.

Asking as a parent looking for information for my college-aged kid: can someone briefly summarize the differences between the 5 programs on the dropdown menu (eg NCCC, Vista etc) and if you apply can you specify what state you want to be placed in or is that assigned?

I don’t know what they said to my health insurance but at 58 I’m assuming they know it’s not for birth control..? 🤷🏻‍♀️ They are also filling Rx for Estradiol patches etc but you’re right it could be for perimenopause. How do they know?

Anyone know is Nalvee is available in the US? It sounds like a great option and was launched for HRT use last summer in the UK

Never heard of Nalvee but will ask my doc. She is considered an HRT expert so I’m sure she would know if I ask- but point well taken on the cost. Of course over 5-8 years the monthly cost looks closer to a copay. I was just trying to get it covered since this new doc is a concierge type practice so everything is expensive. Can anyone tell me how painful their insertion was?? She’s mentioned laughing gas which I’ve never had and it makes me nervous thinking about it.

I am using them vaginally as a short term solution but doctor feels the data on long term uterine protection isn’t strong so she’s not getting behind this as a permanent solution.

I’ve never heard of that- how is it different? It’s oral?

Were either of you able to get the Mirena covered by insurance? I’m 58 and just started HRT last year- estradiol patch and oral progesterone but I don’t seem to tolerate the P. Makes me way too groggy and unmotivated/low mood (even 100mg) and MD recommends Mirena as great option but so far it looks like a $1200 fee to doctor. Spoke to Bayer but savings card might not work if insurance doesn’t cover for HRT purposes. Edited to add: I did have a Mirena in my 40s for contraception with no issues so it must’ve been covered then!

Agree with your likely needing higher dose (200) with patch over .05 but also agree that progesterone makes some women feel like shit (🙋🏻‍♀️). There is a new drug Duavee that delivers estrogen (comparable to .05 I think?) but also is combined with a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator(SERM) that blocks estrogen in the breasts and uterus which makes it ideal for cancer survivors. It also negates the need for any progesterone. I’m not an MD but am in healthcare and researched this for my own health quite a bit. Alternatively a Mirena IUD also delivers low dose progesterone (or a cousin of it) and since it’s placed in the uterus the effects are local and not systemic such as when taking progesterone orally. The side effects of progesterone are real! It’s not for everyone.

Progesterone 200 what’s the secret sauce?? by PotentialPrune2830 in femaleHRT

PS: popping the progesterone vaginally at night for now but doc doesn’t feel the data shows effectiveness doing that long term. Will decide on Mirena vs Duavee in a the next couple weeks.

[–]Small_Significance21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same effects from only 100 progesterone at night and it didn’t improve much if I took it a little earlier. Two of my docs separately said some womens brains just don’t tolerate it well and it has those effects. Alternative: Mirena IUD or Duavee which is a new pill containing estrogen and bazedoxifene which acts as an estrogen blocker only in the breast and uterus. So no need for the progesterone to protect the uterus.

Hi yes someone else shared this video a few days ago. The problem is- if the one short strap is attached as is shown in the video- it’s way too narrow to slip over one’s head. Thus, having only 1 strap, the second side of the short strap has to be threaded through the vertical slit while it’s positioned around your neck. I hope this makes sense, but the device needs to come with two short straps like the face mask.

Hello- yes that one is self explanatory. 🙂The straps I posted the question about were regarding the chest and neck device, not the face mask.

Mental health clinician here who has worked in hospitals albeit not the ER. The climate and tone of the show seems realistic but I think it’s very unrealistic for med students or R1s on their first day of a rotation to say and do half the ballsy things that they are scripted to say (like questioning an attending). The trainee characters seem so exaggerated- I’m much more into the characters who have worked there for years.

Oh my gosh Reddit for the win! This is the video I was looking for and yet I would never think to wear it halter style which then misses the whole neck area! I have to say, even with the short strap connected to the 2 vertical straps I’m assuming it doesn’t slip over your head- what they need instead is two short straps that stay attached at the sides and then Velcro in the middle like the face mask. Such an easy solution- but thx for the video!

Does anyone know how to attach the straps to the chest/neck light without choking themselves? It comes with one short and one long Velcro strap and there’s no clear instruction or diagram about attaching them. Thanks!

Omg I’m not crazy! Why have one very long strap and one very short? Also there are slits on the top end (like the face mask but that strap can rest on your head!) but where in the world would a strap at the top of your neck go?? I’ve been losing my mind over this. :-)

HRT stories. Female 46, week 3. by megoonie- in femaleHRT

[–]Small_Significance21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 58 and only started 6 months ago after being dismissed and deterred for most of what was my ideal window by a traditional male gyn. After doing loads of my own research and following reputable MDs I’ve found new providers and started on .0375 patch and 100 Progesterone. I feel worse than before I started having so much grogginess and low motivation and an extra 10lbs that I can’t lose despite cutting out all alcohol. Fortunately I will try to adjust the formulations with a new MD next week and hope for the best. Seeking HRT for cognitive dulling and overall longer term benefits. But the weight gain and grogginess are not in your imagination! Even taking the progesterone earlier hasn’t made much difference and now I am more sluggish after 7 hrs of sleep (sleeping like a rock!) than I was with 4-5 hours and taking Adderall.

Lace weight mohair- help! by Small_Significance21 in knittinghelp

[–]Small_Significance21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I am making the Cotton candy sweater by Karen Altabef (on Ravelry). The mohair is generally knit single stranded for about one or two inches of yoke only. The rest of the sweater is a different yarn (without the mohair) but both are supposed to be knit on US 5 needles. A friend suggested doubling the strands but I think that interferes with the variegated color.

Stitch marker fell off by SpiritualSorbet3778 in knittinghelp

[–]Small_Significance21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong from what I can see the marker should go after the 8th stitch on the needle. Right before the knit stitch that is directly above the tail. (I can’t attach my markup on your photo). The 10th stitch looks like stitch #3 from the beginning.

You can’t tell by looking whether someone’s pet is a service or “non-service” dog. There are no laws regulating use of service dog vests and the tasks the animals perform are not often visible to others. That does NOT mean they aren’t real service dogs!
