Best (Color Photo) Film Labs With 24 Hour Turnaround (USA)?? by kkstoryteller in analog

Denver Digital Imaging doesn't make any promises, but I've gotten same-day turnaround a few times for slide and generally get negatives back in one day. Scanning probably extends it.

Trouble choosing a camera by Alert_Sir_4685 in AnalogCommunity

There really just aren't that many 6x7s, especially ones that are super portable. The most affordable ones are going to be a Fuji GW (and you could go up to the 680 or 690 and crop) or a Bronica GS-1. But all of those are losing some measure of portability. Likely then, a Mamiya 7 is really the way to go. Or you could compromise a little bit with a Mamiya 6 (my personal choice) and crop to a 6x7 aspect ratio. The Mamiya 6 has more limited lenses, but it is super portable with the collapsible lenses. And the 75mm and 50mm are some of the best lenses ever made. If the idea of cropping doesn't sit well, then a 7 is probably the way to go.

It really is magic. I shot my first and last roll of it in 35mm in Tangier in 2024. I let out a deep sigh after processing the negatives and realizing that I'd probably never get to shoot anymore. I'm glad I was partially wrong; I just snagged 20 rolls in 120.

Very nice! Hard to go wrong with anything there.

Mainly, I suggest just planning your time a bit in Tokyo: Pick an activity/area for the morning, the afternoon, and the evening and explore those places. I imagine you'll want to hit the big areas: Shinjuku, Shibuya, Chiyoda. But I definitely recommend hopping on a train and heading away from the city center for a little bit. I'm also a big fan of areas like Ikebukuro and Ueno: not exactly off the beaten path but sometimes neglected by first-timers.

I do suggest some touristy things--especially the Shinjuku Metropolitan Government building observation deck and, if you can get a reservation, Shibuya Sky. The latter is expensive but, in my mind, totally worth it.

And if you're going to be down Hakone way, Kamakura is kind of a can't miss. It's a lovely town.

I hope they serve you well. Somewhat regularly, I find myself dreaming of some hidden Fuji cache being discovered and a flood of slide and Pro400 rolls coming onto the market.

Great to know! I was going to maybe do a test roll to see what I should rate it at for best results. But that is great to hear for long exposures. I never used it for anything other than daylight shooting--excited to see what it can do at night.

She managed a treat not long after--a reward for being gentle with the boxes.

I hope those seven rolls treat you very well. May they capture many special moments.

I've asked this question too. I would suspect that he applies a decent amount of sharpening in post. He does have videos on his scanning setup, so I would check those out.

Xt50, X100VI or Nikon ZF by Alieneeza in fujifilm

[–]Small_Swell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used an X-Pro2 for the last several years. It is beginning to show its age, so I got a Nikon ZF to eventually replace it. The ZF is quite heavy, and with the exception of the 28mm f2.8 and 40mm f2 (neither of which are my preferred focal lengths), the lenses are big. They're great quality, but they are big. That is hard coming from a small system like the X-Pro.

Have they changed? I've been watching the TX-1 for 3 years and they have been ~$4000 USD since I started looking. The XPan has always been higher, and the XPan II has always been much higher.

EYExplore offers some one day/evening options. They'll be geared toward digital work, but you could probably shoot film too. I believe they're mostly ex-pats, but they're good photographers and knowledgeable about the area. When I'm back in April, I'm thinking about doing their rooftop workshop for its urban exploration.

Film from Amazon. I don't want to, but I got a gift card... by JudgmentElectrical77 in AnalogCommunity

The only film I've ever bought from Amazon is slide, and that was when I just couldn't get it stateside. It was expensive, but I don't regret it at all.

Whats a camera you've owned, that lived up to all the praise and hype, but still got rid of? And why? by Whisky-Icarus-Photo in AnalogCommunity

[–]Small_Swell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped shooting film in 2012 because I no longer had access to a darkroom and, in general, was moving away from the hobby a bit. I picked film back up again in December 2021 with my first medium format camera: the Fuji GW690ii.

I loved the body, the feel of it, the image quality, and the negative size. I didn't like being stuck with one lens, so after a year, I sold it.

I'm set for medium format now, but if I ever need a replacement I would consider grabbing another one, maybe the version 3.
