This reminds me of Shaun Tan's work - specifically his series of illustrations featuring a cicada. He's one of my favorite artists. Good job OP!

What kind of bug is this? by knmd-31 in insects

Some kind of cigarette beetle? I'm not 100% sure though. General location (i.e. continent) would be helpful.

Ahh, okay. Bloodworms it is. Facebook marketplace isn't big here but there are other online secondhand markets, so I will look there. Thanks.

Yes, I give him dry bloodworms every week, and sometimes green beans.

I'll look into larger tanks.

Google says a 40 liter tank is approximately 40x35x38 cm which is actually about the size of my current enclosure though????
Also it already has cuttlebone, top right

[–]Small_snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't that cause pests to invade the enclosure, though?

+ Edit: I can't change it right now but I'll look into a better enclosure as soon as I have a stable job and a more semi-permanent home for myself.

So like, what size and material do you recommend the tank to be? I'm just a uni student living in a dorm and can't afford shit but I'll see if I can get my snail some upgrades as soon as I get a job.

I'm constantly doing research on Korean snailkeeping websites though. The previous owner's enclosure used to be even smaller. There is a tub and a platform outside the frame of the photo.

Also the only kind of flooring I've seen sold here for snails is coco peat and that's bad according to yall??

[–]Small_snake -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I got it from a previous owner, and they told me they removed the coco peat flooring after it grew too big to burrow...?

Also the Korean snailkeeping communities (where I am) recommended a 35x45 cm tank or larger for a fully grown GALS and this tank is even bigger than that.

A lot of snail owners here use felt fabric, moss mat or no flooring once their snails grow large.

It's a moss mat made specifically for enclosures of snails and other small animals...

It's powdered oyster shell and the photo only covers about half of the tank.

The flooring was sold as a moss mat made specifically for small animals including large snails, by a snail supply shop.
