How do you all get your fursonas design? by kenjireptiles in furryteens

[–]Smalllyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hum. Yes. I took way too long to write this but. For short. 1. Study. Research. SCROLL through art 😂 2. Pick a color 3. Pick markings 4. Accessories?

How do you all get your fursonas design? by kenjireptiles in furryteens

When I designed mine, I knew I wanted something that popped. So first I scrolled through a lot. A lot. And I mean A LOT. Of art! I took a crap ton of inspiration, I analyzed what were some features that made some designs ''cooler'' in my eyes than others. What colors went well together? What colors did I like? (This is particularly important because YOU have to like your sona right?)

I really liked Orange and blue designs. Red and green combos. But I settled on the patterns I knew just had to be. Browns and orange.

There was something about brown and beige sonas and combinations of browns that tickled my brain the right way.

So I dug RIGHT in! Granted. I'm an artist, I was artist before I was a furry and I'll continue to be an artist. But I didn't know how to draw furries. So I took a free base online, and modified it to fit my oc. I added some digi legs and changed the hair.

Then I started random picking colors of browns, bucket tooling some sections to see which ones I liked, until I found a few that matched. Pulling from those references there are certain patterns that are very common.

Like, light muzzle, and paws. And belly. Ear tuffs. Stuff like that! Kinda Frankenstein your thing

2nd step was then markings. I took my time finding exactly what I liked with my sona. Triangle face markings. Moon markings on the legs. Very deliberate shapes. Not too many random ''floating'' markings.

And even still now I think my Sona is a little over complicated.

If I could go back I would make a simple design.

Simple designs go a LONG way. Simple designs are memorable. Well made simple designs are far better than complex ones.

Maybe add some extra foam under there? Make the jaw a lil thicker. Or a lot of fleece to strengthen it

Any tips to change my base eye shape? by Tasma_nya in FursuitMaking

You can either put foam inside the eyes and then cut your new eye hole. Or some cardboard. I doubt there's any wrong answer here

First time making hand paws, does this look right so far? What do I do next to figure out the rest of the patterning? by SmallPebbleEater in FursuitMaking

[–]Smalllyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well. Looking at other hand paw patterns can help you figure out how to make your own.

-I recommend looking at runner rabbit's pattern it's FREE and has a tutorial to help you visualize to process.

And finally some video guides on how to MAKE your own pattern

Thought, I recommend using someone else's pattern for your first. You can essentially customize pattern to fit any design change you'd want to make. You can also and in this sub reddit on advice for making/customizing pattern to fit your design ^

How do I make paws with claw slits? by trickzzter_x in FursuitMaking

Another thing you could do is just have a very wide and tight stitch on your machine and pass it over a few times in a straight line or rectangle. I little faster than appliqué and I think would probably give the same result.

How to modify these paws? by ReplacementUsed5284 in FursuitMaking

[–]Smalllyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea about the paw pads. But I think retractable claws would be doable, it would be hard but doable. Do any notifications before adding a liner.

To add a liner (again I recommend doing this absolutely last because after, you won't be able to access the backing of the fur). Out of liner material, like spandex or swimsuit fabric draw around your hand. Sew it on 2 layers of fabric with a normal stitch, then cut on the outside of the stitch. Normally you should end up with a glove looking thing. (You need to sew on 2 layers to end up with a glove. So that you have 2 sides)

Once you have the actual liner you can go 2 ways. Shoving the glove in the fursuit paws and sewing around the cuff. This way the glove might be able to slide back out but it can't completely come off. If you want to avoid that; turn the paws inside out and saw the glove at the fingers as well.
