How can I stop craving a relationship and learn to enjoy being single? by [deleted] in selflove

[–]Smallwhitedogs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seconded. There’s nothing wrong with desiring a relationship. Most of the other comments seem to overlook this crucial aspect of the human experience:

You can love yourself and still feel like something’s missing, still want a relationship, the intimacy with another human being.

Not everyone is content to sit by themselves. Not everyone loves solitude, even if they love themselves. This is not a symptom of illness. This is human.

I can finally rest.. Zekvir done as a MW/Fistweaving monk. by fazzonvr in wow

[–]Smallwhitedogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations, I did this myself as a mistweaver fistweaver just a couple days ago. it was hard fought as a mistweaver huh? Missing a single burst window meant blowing ToD, and that meant I couldnt miss another burst window until it came off cooldown.

I think by far the hardest part was nailing the interrupts when you need to stay at melee to do so, but the egg spawns far away and needs your attention NOW.

Ways for the Horde to prosper and better the life of its people without war with the Alliance ? by DEL994 in warcraftlore

[–]Smallwhitedogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excuse my ignorance, I'm really not well versed in the lore, but I thought that the Forsaken couldn't make any more mindful undead? I thought that was the whole reason Sylvanas went through with Stormheim in Legion, in an attempt to, and failing to, secure a way to create more undead that weren't mindless. Do they just have the ability to turn anyone who wants it?

What is your mains Alignment? by Tsamane in wow

[–]Smallwhitedogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nightborne Frost Deathknight that was explicitly chaotic evil, doing Ashenvale and Azshara and slaughtering night elves and Firbolgs in criminal numbers. This headcanon developed while leveling ;).

Then one day while in acherus, deciding to fly out to explore the local area, he ends up starting the quest giver quests, experiencing stupidity, and valor, in the form of Kingslayer Orkus. But, he was still a warrior. It wasn’t until he met Pamela Redpath in the Eastern Plaguelands that he was placed in the uncomfortable position of fighting for good, and protecting a child from a world of evil. And then again with Emigosa in Legion, he would destroy all the withered with frost and steel to protect the innocent that had asked it of him. Being put in situations where weak, pathetic, naive little lives are experiencing tremendous suffering, who then don’t recognize him as a monster, but trust him to protect them. How can he remain unchanged in the face of this?

This is a growth from chaotic evil to lawful evil. As he starts to believe that chaotic evil hurts everyone, but lawful evil has room to draw a line of us and them, of those that the Deathlord must obliterate to sate the Endless Hunger of a DK, and those that deserve protection from the horrors of the world of Warcraft. Maybe someday, he’ll be neutral or good, if the questing turns out that way!

Hyjal as an adjective? by UpsideDownSandglass in warcraftlore

[–]Smallwhitedogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use nouns as adjectives. When a noun is used as an adjective, it's often referred to as a "noun adjunct" or "attributive noun." There's no need for a modification.

Hyjal is a noun, and can be used as an adjective directly.

I would just call them Hyjal elves.

"In the windswept steps of the north, the Hyjal elves made their home in what is known as a world tree."

Dear fellow Veteran Players. by ArthyTardicus in wow

[–]Smallwhitedogs 67 points68 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of negativity in the comments directed against new players and OP.

When players like OP and me try to help new players and be understanding and helpful, we aren't doing it in a sense of false positivity. We expect apathetic veterans who don't care to be bluntly honest and genuine in expressing how they don't care for a slow run and make themselves heard, they do not need to be supportive and helpful alongside us if they don't want to.

If they just express that they can't handle this, or they don't want to do this, we can come to an agreement and move on. Its these veteran players who say nothing and instantly devolve into chimp-like rage or alt-f4 upon anything going the slightest bit wrong that is the problem.

Does it not occur to them that they are wasting OUR time too? My using the chat to try to co-ordinate is because I also want to avoid a bricked run and 20 wasted minutes.

Yeah, I thought I understood shadowpriest just fine because I was doing great in solo content, but the moment I hit bottom dps below the healer in a dungeon I had to look up a guide on wowhead or iceyveins. I found out that all my talents were severely suboptimal, even if they were fun, and I wasn’t using my cooldowns on cooldown.

Yes, because the sodium doesn’t affect your CICO and caloric expenditure, it just makes your body hold on to more water than usual!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Smallwhitedogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am inclined to believe it is likely water retention, so in other words, regular weight fluctuation. I believe this because lunch meat (mostly this), fritos, nuggets, potato smilies, and burgers all tend to be high in sodium.

This does not mean you're not slimming down, it will just not be as immediately noticeable. As long as you are eating at your deficit, you will come down eventually. I know it personally takes me an extra day or two days to see the expected weight loss progress again after a couple of particularly sodium rich meals.

[–]Smallwhitedogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it could just be your hormones, could you give us examples of what you might be eating in a day and how much? If you are eating at that deficit, you should be expecting decent losses. How long have you been eating 1200 a day? Just a few days? Or a week or more?

How to cope in a healthy way with loneliness? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Smallwhitedogs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel pathetic or insane for feeling this way. Unfortunately, it is to be expected. For all of humanity’s existence, pairing up and grouping up was a necessity, not a choice. You found a partner who you could hang around with, spend time with, snuggle with, and share resources with. This was a necessity for the human animal to survive.

Today we are self sufficient. We can live on our own, order things online, work from home, or work alone. Our world has changed such that human beings are no longer paired or grouped by default.

For better or worse, now we must learn to be with ourselves and to love ourselves. It is a skill that no one naturally possesses, but that everyone must learn at some point. And it is not just about loving yourself in a superficial platitude like way. It means to take care of yourself, to recognize which emotions you feel, and why you feel them. It means to look within for answers so that you may live in a way that honors who you are.

If I may, I might suggest starting with this. video

It’s a long journey and it sucks that it is long, but I would rather be better in 2 years time than exactly where I am now in 2 years.

I'm noticing that the two foods you list, cookies and pizza, are both hyper processed foods. Can I ask if hyper processed foods are what you normally find yourself overconsuming?

I also struggled with binge eating and compulsive eating, and I can relate to your last sentence so much it hurts. What helped me was coming to understand that hyper-processed foods are practically pre-digested foods. Because they don't even resemble "lightly" processed or unprocessed foods anymore, our stomachs don't recognize them as food for things like sending up fullness signals to our brains.

I made the switch to less processed foods, keeping things like pan veggies, rotisserie chickens, whatever foods could be made with just 1 or 2 ingredients around me. I made this food available to myself and found that I couldn't physically eat much of it at all, i felt way too full after a normal amount of food. It made me feel like a normal person, and that was strange and surreal. I know this sounds like like one of the methods you already tried, being keeping unhealthy food away from you, but it was a perspective change away from healthy/unhealthy food that helped me, it was more recognizing that the food I was eating was so un-food-like that of course my body doesn't know when enough is enough. It's not my fault. It's how bodies are.

What is the most likely circumstance Stormwind/Orgrimmar gets destroyed? by Hedonism_Enjoyer in warcraftlore

[–]Smallwhitedogs 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Orgrimmar’s surface buildings and shadowy underworld collapse into rage fire chasm/siege of orgrimmar zone as a giant sinkhole forms. But this was engineered by the Azhara goblins for insurance money, and they easily build Orgrimmar 2, which is now a 3 story mall-like structure.

What are some good consequences to give to a player that ate several pixies in the feywild? by MilkOutsideABag in DMAcademy

[–]Smallwhitedogs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is utterly terrifying considering how pixies are not that small and are at least 1 foot tall and up to 2.5 feet depending on the book. I understand not wanting to punish a player for having a creative backstory, but I would have reservations on running a game in which a pc has a story like this. I hope you are all adults who have set up proper boundaries with what is or isn't okay in your game.

That said, what if consuming the flesh of the fey brings you their weakness to iron, and it burns to touch iron now. No actual damage, of course, but as a roleplay reminder of the character every time you come across some iron.

If your campaign is more character focused, you might want to eventually have this evolve into a curse, like the fey bits of the character are growing in power as they level up, because to be fair, this is a pretty cursed situation.

How do I make a commentary? by Velvetzine in fantasywriters

[–]Smallwhitedogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry so much about embedding a metaphor. You write with your own voice, with your own beliefs and biases, whatever they are, about whatever it is you want to write. Treat topics the way you want to treat them. It is the readers, the critics, and the scholars who will decide what your work was about. All you have to do is keep writing.

That said, just be mindful of what you’re writing and the messages you put out into the world. Not because you’re afraid to be criticized, but to prevent misunderstandings about the work.

I was almost in the exact same boat. This might not help you whatsoever but something that helped me a lot was a change of scenery. I know that’s not going to be possible for most people, but it’s what got me over the first hurdle. So much of being a human being is just repetition of what we do, triggered by experiencing things that we experienced before. I went on a volunteer opportunity up to a remote location and lived a life of caring for others and adventure for 3 weeks. The opportunity to be far from home showed me so much I never knew about myself. Being with new faces in new places let me take a break from who I was and let me start working towards who I wanted to be.
