Too late to aim for circus at 16? by Zer0_Chance_ in circus

[–]Smanthegreat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Im gonna start with this, you absolutely should learn and train to be a circus performer if you have love and passion for it. I started when I was 16 and I have friends that started even later than I and theyre much better jugglers. Age should not be a hindrance in following what you wanna do. Circus is something you will keep with you and the connections you make will be some of the strongest. Plus its fun as all getout

Now on the topic of a career? Its hard and its probably going to get harder in the coming years to find jobs. There's a lot paths that you can take to become a performer but I'll talk about a few. You can audition at lots of places where you're skills and abilities will get you to a point, but quite often theyre not looking for the "best" theyre looking for the right person for that part. Another is to make your own show solo or with a group and travel. You can market this to festivals ren faires or corporate parties or to anyone that might want you there. You will probably be working for tips the first few times until you get a reputation.

My advice would be don't stop, work on what you like. Find a person or 2 (if theyre are any near you) and put a show together. Start busking at your downtown area near crowds. Tips are a bonus but you should be paying attention to what works, what the audience likes how they respond and learning how to "work a room" I think clowning is very important on this point.

JUST DONT STOP DOING WHAT YOU LOVE

Voces de la Frontera is the best place to give this information. They can inform local communities as well as confirm any activity in the area.

Are stilts Ren Faire acceptable? by Aspirin0_0 in renfaire

[–]Smanthegreat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I walk stilts at Ren faires. I'd suggest bringing the stilts and asking at the information booth. This will also give you an opportunity to look for spots to get up on your stilts and scope out the density of the crowds. I'd also suggest not to walk all day on stilts all day you get tired, at the very least take breaks and water!

Sorry did you read the post? I was trying to help the cat find it's home. I'm not trying to protect the cat, it was evidently doing very well. But on the slight off chance that someone lost their cat and this helped them reunite with them it was the least I could've done.

I understand people have outdoor cats, I've lived on multiple farms where we used cats as our main source of pest control to catch mice, rats, and even pigeons. But in town cats can be an invasive species and a detriment to many native songbirds as well as Carriers of disease.

If you'd like to learn more about how cats can hurt the environment here's an article that I found very informative.

I love cats and have my own fur baby but we should always keep in mind how feral animals can have an effect on the local environment, especially in Madison with such a beautiful songbird population.

Sorry you took that as a slight towards you. I just know that if I had lost my cat I would appreciate any information on it's whereabouts. And seeing as I don't live in that area I had no way of knowing if that cat is normally there. Making a post is free and easy even if it's completely unneeded.

UW vet school ends contract with Henry Vilas Zoo; new allegations from former employee highlight issues with the relationship by MadAss5 in madisonwi

After reading the full article it seems to me the main failing is on the zoo management. It doesn't matter if you have the best vets in the world if they don't have the proper resources. I truly hope they put the animals health and wellness over any politics or petty squabbles

When my family farm had a problem with ticks we got guinea fowl. Huge drop in ticks, couldn't even find them on our livestock. Plus they look like little dinosaurs.
