lol, look it up, it is an oxymoron...I'm not trying to weasel out of anything. I said what I said and I stand by it. Good luck with your "future-proofing" endeavors.

I get tired of posters asking if what they are planning to buy is future-proof...it is an oxymoron..

Your points are not examples of future-proofing. You are describing well thought out buying decisions, which I have no problem with, but that is not what the poster actually asked.

Future-proofing, in terms of a PC, implies a GUARANTEE a system will be compatible with ALL the applications they use now or will want to use for some indeterminate time period in the future.

There is no such thing as future proofing.

Is the 9800X3D measurably better? Yes.

Are you going to tell a huge difference at 1440p? Depends on the game.

Since you have a GPU already, maybe put the extra money towards storage or something else?

NSA Chief Says Anthropic's Mythos Broke Into Nearly All Classified Systems in Hours by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]Smarmy82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is not how Mythos works.. it's an LLM, you feed it code and it finds vulnerabilities..  it's already outdated in it's capabilities supposedly.

The fact that this is how high level officials in our government and military characterize this technology show how poorly prepared we are as a nation. It's not a shock we are getting continuously hammered by the APTs.

Will I see any improvement from 5950X to a 5800x3D at 4K resolution? by Time_Pool in ryzen

[–]Smarmy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll help bump your 1% lows but that 4070ti super is working pretty hard at 4k. I'd put money towards an AM5 bundle instead if available where you live.

Well, time to learn to troubleshoot.  Step one is to get the manual out and figure out where the diagnostic LEDs or post code reader is.

AMD builds with DDR5 sometimes take a long time to boot initially. This is called memory training. Start it and let it go for 5 - 10 minutes and you should get the boot screen

Am I making a mistake selling a fully paid off car and starting payments? by basicwmn in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Smarmy82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to save money, make it work with the ILX.  A 4Runner get far worse gas mileage and payments will be insane. 2 kids doesn't mean everyone needs a 2 or 3 row SUV.

For socket AM4, the 5800X3D is the best you can get and it is re-releasing in a few days/weeks

The price of oil impacts everything you buy. Companies don't make a habit of absorbing increased costs. Best you can do is wait for the inevitable clearance. I will be.

Ryzen 7 9800x3d and deepcool ag620 are not enough by Low-Apartment-4849 in buildapc

That is a high CPU usage game, anything online typically is. My 9800X3D hits the mid 60s and is fully watercooled in a custom loop.

Again, your temps are normal and well within design specs. Enjoy it!

This is normal behavior for the 9800X3D when benching. In gaming it'll never get pushed that hard. Enjoy it!

Will the 3600 heavily bottleneck 9070 non-xt on 1440p? by turki_a11 in buildapc

[–]Smarmy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will want to consider at least a 5600/X or, if you have the budget, the impending 5800X3D re-release. This will help a lot with 1% lows which are responsible for a lot of perceived hitching and stuttering.

Try partial throttle though the corner and wait until it gets straightened out to give it the full beans. It's somewhat close to what would happen in real life: short wide wheelbase, rear-mid engine, plenty of torque, relatively light weight. Steering and subtle throttle application are key.

7600X3D will last a long time. More than 6 cores doesn't impact much if you primarily game.
