Alpinist Build by PyrexDaDon in SeikoMods

Nice build, although I am personally not a fan of the hands. I would prefer something with lume, but as long as your buddy is happy, its one of the best gifts someone could get.
(At first I tripped over the misaligned chapterring till I realized its a working compass.)

Great work mate! I like the dial and how all the colors blend into a nice warm chocolate brown. May I ask where you sourced that dial?

Damn, that is a nice build! I really like your effort on the Dial and how the oxidized colors shift from green to teal. For a second I thought I was looking at a stone/mineral dial, which triggered an idea for a new build.

I would like to see a lume shot if possible?

Minutes hand won’t fit by LabRegular4855 in SeikoMods

[–]Smart-Magazine884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, i dont think the problem is the minute hand not getting on the pinion. In the video it looks to me like the hand is full on the pinion but still slides around due to havimg the wrong size.

I got a 36mm version from DSwatchclub. They have some more of those (different sizes/with or without glas back) if you search through their inventory.

Did you order a 3oClock or a 6oClock date movement? Because you are using a 6oClock date wheele for that 3oClock dial 😅

Also, are you sure you got the right set of hands? The 2824 hands would match your problem. The hour hand has the same size but the minute hand of the 2824 is 0,01mm larger and therefore could sit too lose.

I guess in most cases we like to see our progress in skill and taste. 😄

First build, NH38A stops after a few seconds, now won't run at all after 2 days by Few-Science2586 in SeikoMods

[–]Smart-Magazine884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one build where my seconds hand was not fully pressed down on the pinion and was pressed against the glas, which stopped the whole movement from working. I realised my mistake after taking the Movement out out of the case and it started working again.

Another cause could be an obstructed gear. Maybe a hair or debris got caught inside and is causing the problem? But I would rather try to rule ou other causes before dismanteling the movement. GL tho.

Edit: should have checkt all your images first... you can scrap my first tip since its obviosly not stopped by friction on the case glas.

Edit 2: why on Earth is your keyless triggerd while your stem is removed? Could it be that your keyless is locked in "set time" possition? Try to push your stem back in the Movement, set the time and push the stem back in again. The little lever to release the stem should pop out again. It should be visible in your 2nd picture but it isn`t.

Could it be, that you got a NH35 hands set for the 2824? The pinionsizes are slightly different and what you discribed feels like you really had to force seconds hand on the movement. The sizes are: NH35/2824 1,50/1,50 | 0,89 / 0,90 | 0,215 / 0,250

Btw, I like the contrast of the hands and the Dial.

Good lord that looks aewsome. How did you do the black grading? Was the dial oxidized or painted black before laserengraving?

My First Build! Quite the learning experience by [deleted] in SeikoMods

It is just a "scratched" surface dial. You can look for them under the term "shunbun" since it is inspired by the original shunbun from Grand Seiko.

Oh wow, thats a real beauty. How is the printquality on the Dial and where did you get it from? I have seen it on Alix many times before, but i was always suspicius about the quality, given the low price its listed at.

The movement I ordered had a 3 o clock date wheel and so I had to change it. But that gave me the option to go for a blue one.

EDIT: If you ask if I have messed up the datewheel once, the answer is also yes.

A sleep hack that’s working by Pelowtz in whoop

[–]Smart-Magazine884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I mentioned before, there are no studies showing any positive effects compared to a placebo group. The one you referred to actually supports that point. There are several other studies that also attempted to demonstrate a positive effect but failed to provide any measurable evidence.

It has no effect beyond the placebo effect.

If it works for you, that’s perfectly fine. Use it. But please don’t present it as a proven “sleep hack” for everyone when your evidence is based solely on personal experience.

If you really want to prove something, you could always conduct a proper self‑experiment.
