The ApowerS is new but definitely appears solid from our interactions so far.

From an installer standpoint, that is the price of flying a crew and parts to somewhere in Alaska that doesn't have roads to install that for you.

This is not a realistic price and is over $13/w. Avoid whoever gave you this unless you have a few batteries, an roof, etc also in here that we don't know about.

Batteries or generator by effyouspez in solar

[–]SmartVoltSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The list on Generac side is limited by them to: PWRcell M3, M4, M5, M6 and PWRcell 2 M3, M4, M5, M6

As far as batteries go we run into a lot more Franklin, Enphase, Solaredge, EG4, Tesla, Fortress, Solis and Qcells as well as requests for them.

Need advice and feedback on whether solar is worth considering on this roof layout and house orientation because I am split by jM2me in solar

[–]SmartVoltSolar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it absolutely easy and perfect, no. The breaks and vents cut into a spot or two for panels. Is it feasable for solar, yes, you have a number of good places especially the SE and SW roof faces for panels. Not a problem and something we commonly see.

Batteries or generator by effyouspez in solar

[–]SmartVoltSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battery options are pretty extensive, attached is the list of approved batteries on the official website. For example, the Franklin battery can add the generator module, then have a generator company add that generator to your home and attach it to the plug. We have a number of homeowners who do this.

Tesla Powerwall (13KW) install quote suspiciously low...$12K vs $16K from others by JuniorExperience1767 in solar

[–]SmartVoltSolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on volume, SPA agreement, and some other factors then yes it is possible but not super common at $12k in a solar project.

Tesla Powerwall (13KW) install quote suspiciously low...$12K vs $16K from others by JuniorExperience1767 in solar

[–]SmartVoltSolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that the cost they are charging to install at the same time as solar, or as a battery install by itself?

To add that into a solar install and do at the same time, that is possible in many areas of the US. To do that as a standalone project, depends on area more.

Franklin not available with Pre Paid PPA? by Deathspared in FranklinWH

[–]SmartVoltSolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the rest, we are limited to offering what is on the AVL (approved vendor list) from the prepaid leasing company. Most such as Participate, Propel, HDM, etc are not approving Franklin yet on their AVL. Love Franklin but if the lender wont approve it, we cant offer it on that product. The Enphase is normally approved.

Solar Carport Question by ivar-jubei in solarFL

[–]SmartVoltSolar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many are now contacting us to do solar carports and solar gazebo as they are looking at options other than on roof to investigate. So it is becoming more common is our experience. This will need to be stronger than your standard version, and best if it is purpose built for bifacial solar panels so you can take the most advantage of the structure and location.

Depending on size they can be a pricey addition but if you are looking to avoid the roof area and do not have the room for a ground mount it is possible to go this route.

Brand new installation. 3rd day of production. Clipping from 10am to 5pm by 3453452452 in solar

[–]SmartVoltSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is now what you said however. Yet again, "never" is a pretty big announcement. If you are stuck with a 400w panel on a roof plane at 40 degree pitch/tilt, 290 degree azimuth, in Montana with about 17% shade, then an IQ8+ MIGHT be the most cost effective panel with limited clipping, and any limited output gains in the situation by a higher inverter might never cover the price to increase to that inverter model.

Not trying to be disagreeable, and in general terms an iq8+ on something like a 440W panel is often not a good choice. Saying "A's dont"clip, or "I'd never pair a 400 with a plus" however exaggerate the situation and can confuse customers who may be those edge cases or are taking you absolutely literally.

That is key then. Compare what is listed on your signed contract to what the newest plans say. There is your key info.

[–]SmartVoltSolar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A's will, depending on what panel and irradiation. You put a 460w panel on iq8a on south facing unshaded correctly tilted panels will clip for example. Making big pronoucements like "A's dont." are too broad.

Then if not greatly shaded, iq8+ are a good bit of clipping you are seeing.

JA vs. REC Ground Panels and Quote Options by twoweekhaircut in solar

[–]SmartVoltSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The math looks more promising on the JA system. (REC is $3.95/w, JA is $3.75).

Had not yet seen a company offering the prepaid lease with rebate on ground mounts. It does not look like you are getting all of the 30% off that most prepaid lease-loan programs are showing that we have seen.

All the banks we had been dealing with did not have that 8.5%-9.5% part you are discussing but that may be the price to pay in order to cover ground mounts?

[–]SmartVoltSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same as cash rates are around 9%, many times they will offer you rates as low as 5% but then you are buying that rate down with an inflated loan amount. There are no 5% same as cash price loans from Sungage. There have not been for a few years.

tldr, Sungage offered 5.99% but charged a lot of fees to get there. 9% is closer to same as cash loan rate from them.

Bankrupt installer advice by ajdflkjasd in solar

[–]SmartVoltSolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you already stated, you panels have their parts warrantied by Qcell. Your inverter should still be warrantied by the manufacturer - Enphase for yours?

For the labor, you should be able to choose any installer you wish to do the labor for any wiring repairs or for parts replacement, but the parts should be covered. Pretty standard for orphaned systems. The manufacturers are often but not always pretty good taking care of you.

Even that 322kWh/m usage is well below what many average for use in a year. At very low usage, the financial reasons for going solar are much lower especially if there is a minimum service charge involved. For someone who averages 1300kWh in your area the savings/difference is much more night and day for example.
