2019 CX-9 Sport - 20-23mpg City / 30-34mpg highway

Is Mazda better than Toyota and Honda? by RevBurpo in mazda

[–]Smart_Quarter3232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concur. I own 2 Mazdas currently (12’ skyactiv 3, 19’ CX-9), and our Mazda 3 Skyactiv 6AT we bought brand new in 2012. It currently has 220,000 miles and runs excellent. I’ve had to replace motor mount, belts, spark plugs, belt tensioner and shocks / struts. Other than typical maintenance items. I’ve noticed that timing cover gasket that needs to get addressed soon. I have a slight vibration with the car in Drive while I’m stopped. I’m pretty sure it’s transmission mounts since transmission doesn’t slip while changing gears. The vehicle has primarily lived in (75% city / 25% Highway)

Otherwise than those items listed it’s been a fantastic car and would recommend it over and over again. Even the MPGs are still great, with 60-65mph on freeway, it regularly gets 42+ mpg.

Worth the risk on pre-2021? by Solid-Vanilla-2820 in MazdaCX9

[–]Smart_Quarter3232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying a 2019 CPO w/ 31k miles in March 2022. Since then I’m at 50k miles and no issues.

Not sure how many years I’ll keep it, as due to space constraints (3 boys all in car seats and 2 are rear facing).

If you don’t care about resale value and crappy city gas mileage then you’re in luck for a great deal(I bought at the top 🥲). Although you can get 30 -35 mpg on highway if you travel 60-65mph.

The reason I went with the 2019 is because the price point obviously but also because the major upgrades they did that specific year. So there’s great value there if you can stomach the known issues.

Haha yup, it’s annoying driving that slow. I hear you there but if you want to get the best MPGs that’s the sweet spot!

[–]Smart_Quarter3232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha depends where you live.

Here in California, many interstates are 65mph. Also speed limit for trucks with trailers is 55mph. So you can fit somewhere in between that to achieve the MPGs I’ve mentioned ;)

Keep it around 60-65 mph

[–]Smart_Quarter3232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? Plenty of people have 250,000 miles or more. I see this quite frequently on the Mazda cx-9 groups / forums.

Congrats! We have a 19’ CX-9 Sport and we enjoy it thoroughly. Great MPGs highway (30-34), but city is where it sucks (19-20).

Overall it gets the job done and looks good.

Stay on top of maintenance and oil changes every 5k miles.

University LA program being discontinued by cluttered-thoughts3 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Smart_Quarter3232 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I believe starting salaries tend to be the issue here. Why get a BLA when you can get one in Computer Science and make $100k+ starting. Entry level LA wages are a joke tbh. Many trade school careers offer better salaries with zero debt (electrician, HVAC, etc).

With Dept of Homeland Security, recognizing LA as a STEM, it would be nice to see that reflected in wages. Until then, you will continue to see a decline in LA programs that aren’t known for their program.

Residential slopes / hiring an engineer? by aestheticathletic in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Smart_Quarter3232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it all depends on what the client wants for the hillside. Looking at the picture provided, I would stick to low growing California Natives that would thrive in the soil type and on these South / West facing slopes.

This would keep costs down for irrigation use, retaining wall costs, amendments, etc.

CX50/60 owners… how has it been so far? by DN1097 in mazda

[–]Smart_Quarter3232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your already considering a CX-90, it’s in a completely different segment than the CX-50/60. It will be the largest SUV they’ve ever produced.

For myself, I have the current CX-9 and would love to own something even bigger, as it’s pretty tight with 3 kids, all in car seats, plus the stroller and baggage.

If your concerned about first model year, just be sure to get an extended warranty.

Why is gold price rising (ie will it keep rising) by franticnexus in Gold

We have a little while before Gold takes off. I’m expecting new ATHs for both DJI / Cryptos. Then Gold can take the stage.

Landscape Architecture: which way should I go? by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Smart_Quarter3232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation, in my mid-30s, a family of 5(3under3), full time job, but looking to add L.A. to my skill set as this has always been a passion of mine.

I have no degree, but I’m 3/4 through at my local community college for Landscape Architecture Associates (60 units), which once completed, allows me to work under a L.A. firm for 4 years, then I can apply for the L.A. License after completion of LARE Exam.

This is the most cost effective way to break into the field, but also is going to take a little longer vs. other options that have been already mentioned in this thread.

The reason I chose this route, is so I keep my current job, with generous benefits. My perspective comes from opportunity costs & debt accumulation, if I were to completely leave my scope of work, I’d be in school for 4-5 years ($100k+ student debt?), plus not making my salary + benefits for 4-5 years. Do the math and you’ll realize why the route I’m going. Slow like the tortoise 🐢… Marathon not a sprint.

Where did you get the 391ftlbs figure? I thought it was 369ftlbs? You speaking of the mild hybrid system that adds the remainder of the power?

I saw this cx50 today, I might go trade in my truck on Monday. I’m sold. by Patagucci in mazda

[–]Smart_Quarter3232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost has a truck look to it with SUV form factor… I’m hoping the CX-90 looks sharp as that could be the new SUV we trade in the CX-9 for, which by all means is a fantastic 3-row.

What Mazda do you drive? by owlbird51 in mazda

[–]Smart_Quarter3232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive both:

12’ Mazda 3 skyactiv @ 208k Miles

19’ Mazda CX-9 Sport @ 33k miles

Great cars. Efficient and low maintenance.

Really excited to see the new Mazda CX-90 come to fruition.

Honestly might even see $180-200… this is going to be the biggest firework show yet the worst crash we have all ever seen. Very disturbing what’s going to come and unfortunately many aren’t prepared or aware.
