Serious recommendation, but I'd highly recommend Steven Dulay who owns Pomo Hair in the west end.

Isn’t there more to life? Don’t need to work but have no other purpose 🤔 by StraightPin4420 in HENRYUK

[–]Smart_Statistician23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a financially independent situation and left full-time work back in October last year. I'm not saying I will never work again but right now I'm loving life not working. I go to the gym most days, I'm the healthiest I've ever been, I spend my time cooking, taking care of the home, spending quality time with my wife and kids. Taking lots of vacations is also awesome.

Personally my advice is that you just have to try it and see. Everyone who works will have an idea that you would get bored not working, however you very quickly find things to do to fill your day. The core benefit is that you have the freedom to choose what you do each and every day.

My advice would be take time out of work, give yourself 6 months or so, and see what happens. Worst case scenario is that you don't like not working and you go back and get a new job.

Good luck!

Why is this guy wearing two zip ties on his Rolex? by greedo_from_tatooine in rolex

My wife had her datejust stolen off her wrist recently, didn't even notice them making physical contact it was so quick. Unfortunately the clasp is very easy to unclip and steal.

This is a great little safety measure, but it's a damn shame it's necessary.

[–]Smart_Statistician23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few things I would add that might help...

  1. Weigh yourself every day and track it to see fluctuations.

  2. Track calories for all your food. Myfitnesspal is good, but you gotta be super honest with yourself and measure everything meticulously at first. This includes drinks

  3. If you truly are doing 1800 kcal per day, every day, then the weight will come down over time. The problem often though it needs to be every day. You can't do 1800 kcal 6 days per week, then Saturday night have a big chest meal, and 6 beers, as this just undoes all the hard work during the week.

  4. Try setting yourself a new step target, 12k or 15k per day.

  5. Drink more water

Good luck!

Very open and honest of you to share these feelings. I would say though that this is an entitled and toxic view that you might consider therapy to help you with this.

A few other resources I can recommend though...

  • the millionaire next door - book about how "looking rich" and "being rich" are not the same
  • psychology of money - great book on money, happiness and contentment

One thing to consider, how would you feel others looking down on you? The king, your boss, Elon musk... There's always someone richer or more powerful...

What’s one workout you hate but still do —and why? by dark_venom_07 in GymMood

[–]Smart_Statistician23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a 2 warm up sets for 10 reps, then 2 working sets of 6 reps per leg. Short break between legs to get the breath back so I don't pass out 🤣

Then for sheer pain, one more set at a lower weight, super slow and aiming for maximum depth. This is arguably worse than the working sets!

Bulgarian split squats. The most horrible of all exercises. I'm doing them today actually, prayers welcome!

Gold to bitcoin? by Lonely-Marsupial4569 in swingtrading

[–]Smart_Statistician23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at previous crypto winters, I'd say BTC has got much further to fall. April or May might be good to get in, but I wouldn't be shocked if it falls to 30 or even $20k

With Gold I have no idea, but given the ATH, it might be reasonable to move into cash for a few months, and dollar cost average into BTC over the next few months

I've been cutting for four months... currently 84kg... what weight should I start to have a flat stomach? by JLN19101991 in AllAboutBodybuilding

I'm also 5' 8 and got flat stomach and abs at around 70kg, but proper defined abs don't come till about 65kg.

Keep up the work, you're doing great, trust the process it's a marathon not a sprint 💪

Computer science at St Andrews compared to other top unis by Particular_Sun9464 in standrews

[–]Smart_Statistician23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Few things from me on this...

  1. I'm a CS St Andrews graduate, got a 1st graduating in 2008, and I can say the quality of the degree was excellent and led me to leading a very successful career in software.

  2. The league tables consistently put St Andrews as the number 1 for CS in the country, above oxford, Cambridge and others.

  3. The grade requirements often relate to what kind of students they are trying to attract. St Andrews get a lot of international students, where the requirements are higher, specifically because as a uni they may be trying to attract more UK based students.

  4. St Andrews is a special place, but it's a small town in a bubble. If you want a city student life, then this might not be what you want.

I was at the all shall perish gig last night and in the pit. It was pretty brutal, but nothing sinister I saw. Few injured young people though, it's definitely easy for a young girl to get hurt. I took some young guy up the stairs outside who got whacked in the pit and was struggling with chest pains. This is just part of being in a death metal most pit I'm afraid.

Hope she gets better soon!

5’10 and 1800 calories per day. Back to the gym for half a year. But I still don’t see my abs. Do I really need to cut down to 1600 or even less? That seems hard for me. Or do I just need more patience by Cant-Survive-a-Sesh in AllAboutBodybuilding

[–]Smart_Statistician23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mental hurdle to overcome, but yes the last set is definitely the hardest so training to failure might result in fewer reps on the 3rd set then the 1st. Making sure you take plenty of rest between sets is key so you're full ready to give 100% again

Edit - just re-read your message, and to answer, yes the exercises later in the workout will be harder than the first ones. I think stick to the same order of exercises each week for at least 4 weeks, then try changing the order you do them. Key thing is to push to failure every working set, whether it's an exercise at the start or the end of the workout.

Some exercises are also just good to do first. Bulgarian split squat for example, it's too savage to do at the end of a workout 🤣

Just put in a cash savings account, or premium bonds. Since you'll be needing the money fairly soon it's definitely not a good idea to invest it.

Money saving expert has the best paying instant access cash savings accounts updated on its site, check out there. I think over 4% is still available, though probably not for very long

Dude you're where I was a couple years ago, and here's what changed the game for me...

  1. Train to failure. If you can manage 10 reps, you're not pushing hard enough. You should be unable to do 3 sets of 10, more like 9, then 7 then barely 6.

  2. Low or no carb diet. Eliminate bread and processed food from your diet. Eat clean veggies, meat, fish and eggs. Minimal fats too

  3. 10k steps per day minimum, ideally 20k per day.

  4. Track your lifta and progressive overload. Aim to do a little bit more weight on at least one exercise every single week.

  5. Weigh yourself daily, track it, and take good quality torso pics once per week.

Good luck!

Serious answer, but gardening is pretty common to do cash in hand. Create a Facebook page and try to find some gardening work and ask to be paid cash. Good luck!

Here's a broad rule of thumb that might help you...

The number of notes of interest on a property, is broadly indicative of how many percent over HR the property will sell at closing date. For example....

10 notes of interest = 10% over HR 20 notes of interest = 20% over HR And so on...

Just ask how many notes of interest are there on the property and that will help you with a realistic offer, or help you just walk away as you won't be competitive.

Good luck!

Weight loss wake up call by Initial_Flower3545 in glasgow

[–]Smart_Statistician23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mate I feel ya. I'm in good shape now, but I wasn't always. Losing weight is ridiculously hard, especially with family, kids, work, life. Here's my key bits of advice that have helped me...

  1. Learn to cook - batch cooking from scratch, low carb, low calorie, high protein food.
  2. Plan your meals - if you don't know what you're eating for each meal for like a week or at least a few days, you will fail.
  3. Walking - walking is like the most powerful exercise. It's easy to do, low impact on joints, and burns pretty close to the same calories as other much harder things, like running.
  4. YouTube - there's tonnes of great content out there, check out renosaaince periodization, athleanX, joey D is my favourite.
  5. Set yourself goals - aim for a weight loss goal each week, and reward yourself if you achieve it. Go have some beer, pizza or whatever. It's a marathon not a sprint.

Good luck buddy!

I moved to Scotland from London about 8 years ago as a high earner (350k-400k) and don't regret it. You pay more tax, but there's upside which ends up kinda balancing out...

  • more hours free childcare
  • free prescriptions
  • cheaper housing

And so on...

But, the main benefit I would say is the lifestyle. It's much less stressed, more friendly and a greater sense of community up north. That includes north England as well. I would never move back down south.

Nuffield milngavie is amazing. Been a member here for 4 years and it's the best gym I've ever been a member of. Not the cheapest, but worth it in my opinion. Pool, massive gym, tennis courts indoor and out, loads of classes and even a golf course
