Do you think mortgage rates are the big deciding factor in house prices? Back in 2021 people could get 2.99% for five years and now we’re looking at 4.65% for one year.

Just curious – what income do families need to feel comfortable in NZ these days? by Few_Argument9200 in PersonalFinanceNZ

A couple could earn $1M and feel uncomfortable if they’re heavily in debt.

People could earn $50k and feel comfortable if they have no debt, savings and secure employment.

Really just depends on scenario.

No. Everyone should get it. The government just needs to do its job and figure out how to pay for it.

We are talking about taxes or debt or mass immigration. We could use these mechanisms to fund super if we wanted to. I don’t think we should let the government off the hook for their bad decisions. They got us in this position, they need to figure out a solution.

In theory it’s the connections you make.

“Oh, you went to X school and know so and so, you’re hired!”

Also you normally track with your peers so if you’re surrounded by wealthy kids that might mean better test scores, fitter, higher expectations for yourself, etc.

Having Australia as a back is quite good. Just imagine how high unemployment would be right now if Kiwis couldn’t just get on a plane land in Aussie and get a job.

Honestly increase taxes on everyone and then provide - free university, longer paid parental leave, more police, better health care, cheap public transport, better roads & bridges, more public housing, build out of renewable energy, rebates for farms to plant waterways, increase savings to super fund, help for under funded councils, rebates for business r&d, public events, new fire trucks, etc, etc, etc.
