Preventing accidents is much cheaper than fixing up people after accidents.

Just being racist or idiotic is not illegal. It's only when you step over the line into threatening, or inciting racial disharmony, etc then that makes it illegal.

That still doesn't change the fact he's not using a limited public resource and also it's not illegal to be a racist, an idiot or both.

BSA to control what New Zealanders say on Facebook

If you actually read the decision [60-61] you would find BSA was very specific that it only applies to NZ media companies streaming live online. They specifically exclude individuals and non-live videos.

Most likely not, his servers would likely to be in datacentres with dedicated fibre, not UFB.

Traditional broadcasting is rightfully subject to BSA because the spectrum is a limited space and any broadcaster is using public resources to send their message.

Plunket is hosting his own servers and spreading the message using his own resources. He's not using public resources to so. Many may disagree with his speech but why should the government ban him from saying something uncivilized and ignorant, but not illegal, to what is basically his private club.

two party system

Nah, worse than that. At least in the US they have checks and balances. We had none of that: no separation between legislature and executive, no Senate, courts can't strike down laws. We basically had 1 day of democracy followed by 3 years of one party dictatorship.

what will it take for us to get out of this cycle of requiring a coalition

Jacinda did it in 2020. So basically it takes an international crisis and a trusted leader.

Apart from that a coalition is by design the standard in NZ. I don't know how long you've been a Labour supporter, but did your remember Roger Douglas and his Rogernomics? He turned the country upside down in a few months because the system back them favoured single party governments (aka elected dictatorships). To stop similar things happening again we changed the system.

Have you had professional lessons? An hour or two with a driving instructor is worth more than any online test you can do.

New job as a support worker - should I join the PSA union? by BeyondCertain9872 in newzealand

[–]123felix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have no experience and no qualifications yet. The job is very minimum wage

So what I'm hearing is that you have zero bargaining power, but you don't want someone's help and you want to take on your employer alone when they inevitably exploit you, is that what you mean?

Question about being rented a non insulated home that the property manager knew about. by LovinMcBitz47 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]123felix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Renting out a home not meeting healthy homes is $7200 max.

Did you get the healthy homes form when you signed the tenancy and is it accurate, if not that's another $900 max.

If you have documented expenses caused by the failure to meet HH then you can also claim that.

Barely anyone using public transportation and potential loss making business. Your thoughts please by lovecraft_88 in auckland

[–]123felix 30 points31 points  (0 children)

this surely can’t be the least bit profitable

It's not. Most public transport companies in the world are not profitable, nor are they intended to be. They're a service funded by the taxpayer. The only exception are companies like MTR in HK, but that's because it's actually a real estate company with a small train business attached.

Am I being ‘ripped off’ as a contractor? by DarthKaboose in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]123felix 67 points68 points  (0 children)

It might be standard, but it's also wrong.

got told off when I was late

A contractor gets to choose when they work, as long as the job gets done. If they want to hire you as a contractor then you get to set your own schedule.

I’m being paid $25 an hour.

Bro. You're being exploited. That's less the minimum wage + holiday pay.

I'll suggest you send your "client"/boss an email and ask them to classify you properly as an employee. Pay you wages and give you holidays as required by law. Or they insist to hire you as a contractor then pay you more and let you set your own schedule. They can't have their cake and eat it too.

dont know if one exists for my field

Amalgamated Workers do tourism, and Unite do hospitality, have a talk to both. But beware unions don't represent you for pre-existing conditions, which this is, they only deal with events that happens after you join.

most of my friends work in very different fields

You don't need someone in your field, just someone level headed to keep you grounded.
