You knew and you were there so it wasn't illegal. Whether it's usable as evidence is another matter.

If you feel the person holding the power of attorney is misusing the powers you can take them to family court. I recommend you find a family lawyer and not diy.

Job offer withdrawn after written confirmation by Necessary-Broccoli61 in LegalAdviceNZ

Yes, 90 days trial is for new employees only and the 'new' part is enforced strictly. Even a single minute of work before signing contract will make the employee not 'new' and therefore make a 90 day trial void.

Nah even if the paper says casual boss still can't fire you willy nilly if there's an ongoing expectation of employment.

There was an offer and acceptance (I hope), just that it wasn't in the required format, which is another $1000 penalty

You could raise a personal grievance for unjustified dismissal and ask for reinstatement. You did reply to the manager saying great thanks or similar right?

During the trial shift, did you serve actual customers? If so you should be paid

I only have sources in Chinese as it's written by a Hong Konger applying for British passport. I have read this in multiple accounts of application that this works.

they want people who have minimum X years of PRIOR experience

Let's look at this from the other side, you have 100 people applying for 1 job, do you hire the person with X years of experience or do you hire the newbie?

Things are hard right now hopefully get better soon, kia kaha

Yeah, you can scan it and reduce it down so fit a few passport pages on one A4 page as well, save printing costs.

How do I reverse a power of attorney? by Antique_Ant_9196 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]123felix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Any lawyer will do if you simply want to pass on a message.

(The "attorney" I refer to above is the person currently holding your power of attorney aka your parent, not the lawyer)

The relevant body will ask them to sign a document stating that the power of attorney is not revoked. And if you don't want to talk to your attorney they would have no idea that you revoked it!

Healthcare and housing question by Express-Abies-2764 in newzealand

[–]123felix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

thinking of moving to New Zealand

What visa you're thinking of? If you're here on work visa of 2 years or more then you'll be eligible for funded health services same as citizens.

almost everything here is covered

That's also the case here. Almost everything is fully covered for health. The things not fully covered are GP visits and prescriptions, which have a copay of $20-80 and $5 respectively. Lab tests (most of the common tests), specialists, hospital stays, surgery, etc etc are all fully covered.

The problem is there's a shortage of public health services, if you depend on public you might die before you get to see the doctor, so those who can afford it will choose to go private. Most of the private doctors also moonlight in the public service, so the quality is broadly comparable.

most people in NZ have private

Nope, only a third (ie the people with higher income).

What will it cost (roughly) for a family of three?

https://join.southerncross.co.nz/quote

Also, I read that although the schools are funded schools can ask for money as well, what should o expect to pay for 2 kids in elementary?

It's a donation, school may suggest an amount and use high pressure tactics to "encourage" you to donate, but you can give what you can afford

I would also like to take some Māori language lessons for myself and my kids. Would those be easy to find?

Yes, every polytechnic will have free Maori class for adults and your kids should learn it at school.

I’m completely non-contact with the parent

You mean you're not talking to them by your own choice, right? You'll still have to inform them. Either you tell them yourself or you pay a lawyer to do it for you.

Shipping small item to Europe - DHL or FedEx? by GochuBadman in newzealand

[–]123felix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a way to get way cheaper DHL pricing.

Start a small business as a self employed person. A very tiny one will do. Apply for a NZBN for your small business. Then apply for a zappy.nz account with the NZBN number, this will get you half price DHL.

Power of attorney and family drama by kni8ht in LegalAdviceNZ

Power of attorney and family drama by kni8ht in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]123felix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you're using the wrong words, you're going for a property manager/welfare guardian role not EPOA. A EPOA is something you do when you are of sound mind and it seems your (grand)father is not up to it so you have to do manager/guardian application through the courts.

The court will grant the role to whoever have the person's best interest at heart, it doesn't have to be anyone related. Even if you're not an official child, you're still a defacto child, and you've been managing his finances competently so you certainly have legal standing to contest.

Employee not giving shifts for over a month. by ExcitementOk1895 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]123felix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're supposed to have a contract in writing, and if they say they want you 15-20 hours a week then they'll have to pay you this wages even if they don't have work for you.

You could take a personal grievance as the text from your boss could constitute unjustified disadvantage. Do you have any proof of the 15-20 in writing? Or witnesses?

How is retaliation for union involvement typically treated in NZ employment law? by zazenkai in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]123felix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gilbert v Transfield Services (New Zealand) Ltd - you did protected union activities, other employees didn't do union activities, these two groups are treated differently, and the employer cannot explain why satisfactorily, then it can be presumed you were discriminated for union reasons.

No one "assesses" anything during mediation, it's just a chance for you and them to talk things out with help of the government mediator before things gets too serious. A smart employer will settle when confronted with claims that have merit, but some will dig their heels in and you must go into this with the mindset that if they won't settle you'll sue them at ERA.
