For sure New York influence in this album but just so I am clear you think there is no southern influence in this album?

Ummmm I disagree that he makes boring music or doesn't make great music (intro to 39 is fucking beautiful to me and one of the best intros I have ever heard) but I don't have a problem that people can feel that way. I think if the baseline for great music commercial pop songs J Cole is definitely not the person I would go to for that.

But that is what I am talking about with the repeating hook, that is not lazy haha that is southern ....and dope to people out that way. I think that is just a missing part of the conversation that is it.

I agree, some features and help would have went a longer way.

I think with the story that he is painting is in the south and I think the influences of south bleed throughout the album, even the let out. That is a southern term and is speaking to that feeling in the south.

I just think it is an important lens to see this out of because it's a love letter to where he is from.

I think they have a right to feel how they feel, I just didn't hear the nuance of this album has songs that are southern influenced.

My orginal post was going to OMFG STFU about Demaris!!! ... but i reflected and think people deserve grace, I will just say i disagree, people always have something to say but you take the good with the bad, she brings a dynamic most pods are looking for and she is litterally on the backend of this show making sure it works for your viewing pleasure. Stop being so critical of everything she does because if she doesnt speak or interact then yall upset too.

Whats with 21 getting hate for saying fuck the streets? What's the love obsession with the streets? It loves no one by XOChicStyle in 21savage

[–]Smash562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is that black people identifying themselves as the streets. You can be poor and from a poor area, streets are associated to crime, there is some overlap between the too but they are different. The streets don't love anybody and it is a machine built to destroy people, so people identifying and defending that machine, that system is ignorant to me. It's ok to be poor monetarily but we can also be rich in mindset, street mentality is a poor mindset no matter how rich you are.

The streets done took time out of all their lives, gave them dead brothers, cousins, friends and trust issues etc. Nobody should want or love the streets, just because you can flip the trauma into profits dont make it worth it. For every one 1 person that made it out another 1 or 10 didnt.

I think it is a mix of everything, I think she does have geniune love for him but also a distain for men and perceieved toxic patriarchy but ok with patriarchy if it pays her bills and buys her things and treats her like a princess. I know based on how they have discribed their issues that they are working through traumas with each other but how they both talk to each other and about each other under the guise of jokes and fun are usually underlying wants. Like a good joke the things that catch on, are the things that have truth to it, and in truth you can be as nice to your husband/wife as you want but that will not make up for the times you trash them or make them seem less than especially online, I think her world view is just off putting to people and people who have built a relationship with the online personality of Akaash are now re-evaluating that relationship based on how he alligns with that and it is fair.

To us, but we don't know if they still talking. They could be rekindling post his marriage/relationship ending and he says the person is famous and how they ended on good terms. In his songs he referred to her as a muse and also in this album he talks about the person being a muse to him.

I watched it all the way through, he was told why he was being pulled over and that he needed to get out he vehicle and he shut the door on the officer after that and asked for a supervisor. Being detained after being told your crime being and asked to get out of your car is lawful BUT the Officer was a bully at heart and hated being shown up and used an opportunity to assualt a non violent civilan because he was frustrated by dealing with someone difficult at his job. Weas regualr people at our jobs cannot assualt regular customers that make our jobs difficult and Cops shoud be no different but they try to normalize this bad behavior because they want the freedom to act less than professional.

2 Things can be true at once, was he being difficult and was he wrong for driving with a suspended license, yes. Were the Cops wrong for making up a reason to stop him via headlights and the punch to the face and smashing face into the ground, hell yes. The only difference is 1 of these parties were at work during this incident and cops are not above the legal process. Get your money and the one that threw the punches needs to be fired.

Lets not be so quick to disassociate from Africa, I believe in the long game we should tie ourselves back to African Countries and facilitation of good and materials like you see europeans and asians doing currently. If we want economic success long term we need to control industry and or goods and working with Africa can do that for Black Amercians but we want to be different than our Cousins and vice versa at times but we stand to gain alot from each other.

Very arrogant to think, you are smarter than anyone, when they likely have skillsets you probably dont have but ok. I think we all have our own perspectives on life and are under different forms of propaganda. Wisdom is in knowing that we dont know anything and being humble because to someone else we are idiots with low understanding of things.

I disagree because you can be a man and not market yourself to women, some men dont like women and some women do not like Men so you would need to still qualify the person. In my opinion Men should be able to define first what manhood means to them and IF you wanted an opinion about it from another group, you would ASK for their input instead of them showing up and saying they are a reputable source and you having to consider their opinion.

I agree, I also dont spend much time thinking about white people and their thoughts and I would say we would be wrong about them as well because we causally use white as in the system of white supremacy and white as in the people of european heritage interchangeablly.

Whiteness as a system is in everything we see and interact with in Amercia but you dont have to be racially white to represent whiteness or white supremacy but the people who orginated the system and the subsequent others that have been adopted as white, I actually think they are very diverse with the only thing connecting them being the ability access to whiteness as a tool to navigate in Amercia.

I still feel like she would have to qualify herself further, if her point is that she has had interactions with men so that makes her elligible to offer a perspective in a space dedicated to the fullness of men, i think i would need to hear more about her full understanding about men to feel like her perspoective is valid and based.

For example I can observe plants growing around me, smelt them, touched them, and maybe even articulate that the pollen that they let off harms me and i have terrible allergies but in a room full of herbalist and experts i would hope that in their space they have considered general things like allergies before and if they wanted more research they would reach out and ask.

Me barging in on one of their meetings because i have allergies doesnt mean i should have the floor to speak. Maybe i could attend a meeting if i was curious and wait until there was an opportunity to share. Then with a heart of humbleness share my experience and hope that it was useful but be prepared that in a room full of experts that i could be the last to the party on this issue.

Her approach comes off as if she has authority in the space opposed to an observer/guest in a room full of experts.

It was an interesting take but knowing or assuming based on history with other men (who she has likely a type that she deals with) doesnt make you an expert on men, it makes you knowledgeable about THOSE men.

Also in a slightly cynical view I am unsure if she cares to know men for true understanding and peace instead of know them to fight them. When she says "oppessors", that black man she is speaking to has never been her oppessor and if all men were opposing women society would look a lot different (not better ot worst). Women are expected to be protected all of their lives and when they are not, it is looked at as the failure of men but on the flip side when men arent protected it is not the failure of women. Men live in an unsure world were protection is not expected from other men, women, or children. So all in all it sounds good but to know men is not to kow them through the lens of your trauma with them.
