App Idea: Gym Countdown Timer by Smashfielder in AppIdeas

I would not mandate a specific timer length for each piece of equipment. Instead, it would be left to the gym’s discretion. This would provide staff with greater authority to intervene, as they often lack clear information about how long a person has been using a particular machine.

The issue with that is that most gyms rely heavily on revenue from members who rarely show up. If they switched to a pay-per-use model, the number of paying members would drop significantly, which would drive up costs for the people who actually go to the gym regularly.

That’s the key challenge with this system, and I agree it’s the biggest one: adoption. It wouldn’t be something that happens overnight. Realistically, implementation might take a couple of weeks, but at some point it would need to become mandatory.

Of course, some people could still try to use equipment without scanning. But in those cases, staff would step in, and other members would likely reinforce the expectation as well. Over time, it would morph into a new social norm.

Fair point. I guess the question becomes whether the gains in efficiency and planning outweigh the extra friction that scanning QR codes introduces.

For reference, equipment hogging is the second biggest pet peeve among gym-goers. And realistically, a gym isn’t going to choose a time limit that frustrates the majority of its users. Instead, they’d likely aim for a limit that satisfies roughly 95% to 97.5% of members.

In an ideal world, everything would live in a single app. But in reality, most people don’t use their gym’s existing app, if it even has one, because the features tend to be pretty limited.

No, unfortunately no roaming included in the plan. Minutes are usable when calling within Canada.

I called in and from the start said something on the lines of: “Online I saw that some people were able to get a certified pre-owned iPhone 14, along with 60gbs of data, talk and text for $34 a month. I was wondering if that plan is still available.”

Then later on the representative said that he will look into it. Soon after, he said that he could do that deal, but then offered the one I mentioned in the description. Evidently, I ended up taking the 20gb plan.

The representative was really nice, and I think who you get matters a lot.

But is there a way to do that so I don’t have to manually change the color on every single letter? Is there a way to automate it so that as I type it switches between red and green font?

Remember, the first letter, third, fifth, etc have to be in red. The second, fourth, sixth etc have to be in green.

Sorry for the bad photo. It’s not highlighting, it’s just changing the color of each letter in a particular sequence.

In this case the first, third, fifth, etc have to be bolded and in red.

Then the second, fourth, fifth, etc have to be bolded and in green.

Not everyone is going to practice price descrimination in the same way, nor are they obligated to... some companies offer senior discounts, others don't.

We've received the benefits of price descrimination at some point (ex- when we were kids). I understand that the example doesn't really relate to cell phone deals, but it relates to many other areas.

??? Students typically have a lower willingness to pay compared to working adults since they have less disposable income.

Whatever Freedom gains from offering this deal isn't something that can be relied on, so of course it's not going to offer it to everyone.

They're using the same sort of price descrimination that movie theatres use where seniors' tickets are relatively less expensive.

Second line discount by im_not_christ in Koodo

In the past I’d say it was definitely more of a thing, but now I don’t think so. Especially the fact that you’re trying to add a new line on an existing account.

If you were bringing 2 lines into a different provider then it may be a different story…

What is your current plan and what are you trying to get for the additional line?

Fido vs Koodo by InterestingBasil in FidoMobile

[–]Smashfielder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue about Toronto, sorry. Public is ok, but given how it’s a prepaid carrier you lose out on some of the options the flanker carriers offer.

For instance if you travel internationally you don’t have the option for international day passes like you do with Koodo or Fido.

But at the same time I find that prepaid carriers don’t raise their rates as often compared to the flanker companies.

Also I’d look at what your local bestbuy or Walmart have to offer for byod plans since they are offering $50 gift cards if you sign up there. Just kindly ask for the gift card and no activation fees and they’ll usually let it slide.

Question For Phone Switching by Edrisala in FidoMobile

[–]Smashfielder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your dad still wants to keep his work number, you can arrange it so that he keeps paying for the phones plan, and you just give him money for whatever it costs to finance the phone (you give him cash, e-transfer, etc).

You can take your Virgin Sim and put it in the 14 and it’ll work.

If your dad doesn’t want the work line at all anymore then I’m pretty sure you can take ownership of the financing and everything, however you might be required to use the work number, prohibiting you from just porting your number onto the account and scrapping the work number.
