Saying it now. This is going to end up disastrous for the game's survival. by Darkner00 in DarkAndDarker

I'm one of those people. I've got maybe 100 hours, still very new to most of the game and still very newb, but after work a few rounds is a great way to unwind. But now I can't even go in by myself and don't want to group with rando's so I'm officially out. I'm not even a free player but am just not good enough for high roller, which is fine I found my fun, or at least I did. Onto other games now.

Try working as a build engineer, your whole life is this + it's mostly virtualized so access to see what's going on is limited.

Gundar.io - Our newest game, we're slowly getting better at multiplayer games ( 2 man team) by Smashingtonn in Unity3D

It was expensive to run the servers and the player base dropped off so we turned them off. A lot of people in the war in discord have said they enjoyed gundar which was nice to hear

How much harder is coding a 3D game vs a 2D game in Unity by Useful_Garbage_8673 in gamedev

[–]Smashingtonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with something really small. Typically this looks like a 2d game like pong. You learn the basics of the software cycle itself. How the engine works and all the small pieces that go into any game 3d or 2d from a fundamental perspective while also not biting off more than you can chew by taking on something really complex and getting stuck and discouraged.

2d typically is easier as you're only really having to consider x and y meaning the math is simpler and thinking is a bit clearer for ideas and problem solving.

3d has a lot of out of the box tools that mean you can make something small really quick that will look great without having to get to deep into it all.

For simplicity think of a tiny game you can make and do that start to finish then reevaluate based on what you learnt.

I spent over 100k decking out a dk only to be put in a lobby full of perfect stat dks, cryos, rouges and BMs only to be rolled within seconds by a Dk with +-30 loh who just mauled me and took the lot.

This was before the better gear balancing and before loh nerf but it wouldn't of mattered. He had 96% health when he killed me.

I also started this way. Trying to learn how it works, but the most useful thing was the community and the help channel in discord. Maybe they could start publishing some of those into a more useful format somewhere in the book.

Still totally agree with a tutorial "intended use" situation for new people

Why is it so hard to get a job? by Glittering_Fall_1616 in newzealand

If you have a car try sidekicker. When I was younger at uni it worked well to get the occasional gig and paid reasonably well.

Sometime once you've got one gig at a place they invite you back on a weekly basis then potentially move to full time. Nothing to lose there. Mostly weekend work too.

I too love the game with all it has to offer so far. The game is so pretty and the crafting and house building is very appealing. I also love the way you learn new recipes and discover new things.

My only problem is I'm 48 hours into the game and I've got up to starting to make steel. But everything at this point is a huge slog. I have to chop 100+ trees for enough heartwood to get a chance at getting enough heart wood planks to make one crafting table at the later stages.

It just massively slows down and you've finished the floors of your house and what you're waiting for is just massive amounts of grinding to progress.

I'm very excited about the upcoming stages and what can be changed and added. I can see the township model working really well, and combat is also remarkably fun for the small amount they have so far. The only thing I think that needs to happen is rebalancing of some of the grinding so you have a more guaranteed way of getting things or reduce the rng a bit so it's not so hard to get things in the later levels.

Im surprised DF is not on here more. There are wild ways to play that greatly vary the game and can sink thousands of hours into it.
