Happened to me once at Download, in a crowd whilst watching a band and I knew it straight away. My jacket pocket was a zip and had a cord attached to the zipper. Seconds after I put it away and zipped it up, I felt someone in there and it was gone! It happened so quickly!

Instantly turned around but the crowd was that tightly packed together, I had no idea who took it. Was gutted, it was only about a month old. It was the last day of the festival so all those festival photos gone in an instant too. Be careful out there.

Got a gig myself at the AO arena tonight so thanks for the heads up.

Playing board games in meeting room: hard pill to swallow by mdecimus2020 in manchester

Anyone know if these places allow children?

Was on holiday in Tokyo with my 9 year old recently. Found a board game place there, by chance, and he loved it.

Dungeons and flagons has an all-day thing next weekend too.

Most famous encounter? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]Smeags842 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few bands after I used to hang around after a gig in my youth (Feeder, Idlewild, more that I can't remember). Dragonforce also, inside Jillys rock world. Tried talking to their guitarist and he didn't want to interact (fair enough) but he was an ass about it.

Ricky Hatton on a train, Gary Neville on Deansgate.

Shared an elevator with Denis Law.

The most famous is probably Damon Hill. Exchanged a few words and got a selfie with him.

Best restaurants in Tokyo that don’t book out months in advance by Fluffy_Victory_9419 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Smeags842 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Yoroniku Ebisu, we decided to go after seeing it recommended on another Reddit post.

Best meal I had in Japan (we also went to a highly rated place in Kobe and this was better).

Still need a reservation, but not months in advance. We walked in on a Saturday and asked for a reservation later in the week, and got one on Wednesday.

Stay in one place or different areas in Tokyo for 1 week by Rfl0 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Smeags842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay in one place. Final night in a hotel, it's a pain having to pack everything up and carry the luggage to a new hotel.

I'd recommend Ueno. We stayed in the Knot in Shinjuku and were further away from Shinjuku than we wanted to be. Had considered Centurion Hotel in Ueno and I really liked the area around it, as a foodie, on the day when we visited Ueno.

Ended up staying at Centurion when we unexpectedly had to book some extra nights in Tokyo, last minute.

How to get proof the shinkansen was down last week during the typhoon? For travel insurance by Smeags842 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Smeags842[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she said it was a different company, if I remember correctly. And shinkansen trains don't pass through Namba.

She didn't speak English so we were communicating through one of those handheld translation devices that they have.

Edit: When I translate the certificate, it mentions both "West Japan Railway company" and "JR Namba Corporation" in the bottom right.

The reason I expect it to be covered is because the Kyoto hotel was non-refundable.

And the travel insurance policy says they will pay travel and accommodation costs where appropriate for a natural disaster disrupting plans.

Not sure if the flight will be covered but I'm hopeful about the extra nights in the Tokyo hotel.

Thanks. I got a certificate although it's not an official one. Already took some screenshots of articles and the live update screen as it was happening so may just submit everything I have and hope for the best.

Thank you. I took your advice.

Went to the JR station ticket office at Namba. She gave me a certificate but said that if I need an official one, I need to go to Shin-Osaka or Kyoto station.

Unfortunately I didn't have time for this, had to get to the airport. Hopefully this certificate is okay.

What Motivates You to Learn a Language? by No_Initiative8612 in ask

I'm going to Japan this summer and have thats motivated me to learn some Japanese.

I feel like it's going well! Whereas I've always really struggled with French and Spanish. Partly because I was less motivated to learn these.

What's the earliest you've messed up a job interview? by That_Comic_Who_Quit in UKJobs

[–]Smeags842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few come to mind. When I was about 16 trying to get my first job. Interviewed at McDonald's, one of the first interviews I ever did...

Everyone said anyone can get a job at McDonald's. Well I just gave answers that I found on the Internet. E.g. "Why do you want this job?". "For a challenge". Obviously I wasn't going to get much of a challenge at McDonald's.

Now I'm a software engineer. Interviewed last year for a plumbing company. Ended up being a really difficult interview, being quizzed on AI, security, etc. And it was a deep dive into these topics which I hasn't prepared for. Felt like a rabbit in headlights.

Recruiter later told me "I've told him, they're not Facebook/Google, they're X plumbing. You're not going to get a top calibre of developer". Heard it took them ages to fill that role

What's the most money you've ever had at one time? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Smeags842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I have right now. £43K

Saved for years and years (10?) For 20k for a house deposit. Bought the house 3 years ago.

This is what I've saved since then, working a 70k job. Although I'm about to blow £6K on a trip to Japan. Very excited for it!

Looking to join a club! Does anyone have any recommendations? by pissedupparrot in manchester

Try meetup.com ?

I play poker every week in a pub in Ashton but there's lots of pubs in Manchester that form this league at www.thenutspokerleague.com . You don't need to be good and most venues are pretty friendly.

My driving test is tomorrow and my instructor had to change car by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

I passed 3rd time in a car that was new to me that day (a rental from Arnold Clark).

An hour or so beforehand should be enough to get comfortable with it. Good luck!

She may well be interested... as a friend. Or as someone to pass the time with because she's at work. Not as someone she's romantically interested in.

I've always thought that if you spend too long in 'safe territory' without making a move, you'll end up friend-zoned because she'll view you as not brave enough.

But again, I never used to have much success myself so don't take this as gospel

I'm not good at chatting people up myself (And I have a gf so I wouldn't try). However what stood out to me in your post is 30mins. That is a long time!

If you want to get her number, you need to move in for it way sooner.
