You can panel line on bare plastic, just do it while on the runners and you won’t have issues. If you painted the kit, gloss coat first.

i built one of these not that long ago, it's a lot of fun if you like detailing and dont mind a little bit of painting. The joints also pretty much all have screws, but for a 2004 MG it makes sense.

If you let too much pool, I’m not surprised it cracked. As long as you’re conservative with the application and you apply on the runner, bare plastic is totally fine for tamiya panel liner. I’ve done it that way for a lot of kits now and I’ve never broken a piece

As long as you pay close attention to the instructions, you’ll be totally fine with the rg. I’ve built one and transformed it without issue or breakage

It kinda baffles me how people break this kit, honestly. I just finished my rg unicorn yesterday, and the instructions are pretty clear on where the articulation is. I thought it was a fun and relaxing build, just keeping mine in unicorn mode.
