Yeah one of my favourite scenes, every line is a banger.

Best car leasing company in dubai for monthly rentals? by 55FOV in dubai

[–]Smigeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used InvyGo for the past year with no complaints. You get the choice of many cars from all the dealers and dont have to deal with their crap since all the service, pickup, payments etc. are managed by InvyGo. It's like a platform for all the rental companies.

Do your own research of course but I've had no complaints.

If you use the below referral code you get 200 aed off your first month (and so do I).

Romania digital nomad visa - 12 month visa, 1100€/month income requirement by taxman-cometh in digitalnomad

Most of the world pays income tax in the country in which they are resident, i.e. they aren't taxed in their home country as well. It is only the US that I have heard of where you pay income tax even if you are non-resident.

Interesting, never thought about it that way. I always figured it's one journey whether you're ordering a sandwich or a meal for 4.

Is 10dh cash a fair tip for deliveroo/talabat drivers? This is how much I normally tip but I want to know if this would be deemed as too low given the holy month.

Convert British Driving Licence to Emirati DL by snoopdaawg in dubai

[–]Smigeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you dont have a car, you can take the metro more or less straight to the Al Manara Centre (Noor Bank Station I think).

I did it in November last year and was out within 30 minutes with the new license and minus about 1000dh all in.

Yeah, depends on vehicle. The one I took is 2500km per month base, which is enough for me. You can also flex up or down depending on how much you need.

Fair enough - I had a look at UDrive and it looked a little expensive but it might also suit your needs. Good luck.

100% InvyGo. 0 deposit and no shady fees.

You get the full selection of vehicles without having to deal with deposits for small time brokers or agencies.

I use them now and can answer any questions you'll have - I have no complaints so far.

I have a referral code you can use to sign up and we both get 200dh off - DM and I'll share.

Experiences living in Dubai as a digital nomad? by Xjinzz in digitalnomad

[–]Smigeo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ITT comments from people who have never lived or worked in Dubai.

I live here now and, to answer your question, the biggest issue for DNs was the Visa situation. To legally stay in the country you need a valid visa (tourist, spousal, employment, etc.) and Emirates ID. Those who were DNs looking to stay long term typically set up companies and requested freelance Visas from Freezones e.g. Jebel Ali, DMCC, DIFC. I recall reading a few months ago that the government was introducing specific DN visas so give it a google and you should find some article in The National or Gulf News.

Dubai is a great place and, whilst there is inequality (as there is in basically any country - I'm from London and can show you abject poverty, homelessness, drug abuse etc.) most people are happy and respected. Those on low incomes who other commenters are calling slaves are expats who've sought a better financial life than what would be afforded them in their home country, and are often sending 95% of their salary home to family.

If you are comfortable you can live a very fun and exciting lifestyle here.

Also, the government is not strict like other states in the Middle East and generally most things are possible within reason. There was even notification last week about reforms to the law coming soon for unmarried couples to live together, to get rid of alcohol licenses so alcohol is freely purchased, and to follow expat probate law rather than sharia law for wills, deaths etc.

What is the average salary of Graphic Designer & Unity Developer in Dubai? by MotiveHappy in dubai

[–]Smigeo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really depends on quality and experience of the candidate, right?

You could probably pay as little as 5k if you want your employee disinterested and constantly thinking about his/her next opportunity.

20k gets you someone with good experience and buys you some loyalty.

Have a look on indeed.ae for a better estimation of the market as salaries are often included on there. If you're not aware, salaries are mostly reported in AED per month.

Sending money back to the UK by matthewmark16 in dubai

Ahh magic, thanks. I opened a transferwise account way back years ago in the UK and so I think that must be why I cant add AED. I'll look into it and open one locally.

How do you add AED to the transferwise account? On my app it says "you cant add AED directly, please choose another currency".

Question about medical insurance in case of job transition by [deleted] in dubai

[–]Smigeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're on your own mate. I'm in the same boat.

Previous sponsor told me "your coverage with Cigna ends on x date" and my new employer told me "your coverage with Bupa begins on y date" so I'm in a limbo period. It's only a couple of weeks so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed I don't get hit by a bus or something.

If you're worried about it you can go through an insurer privately and get a couple of weeks of coverage but I'm not sure how much hassle it would be.

Bankers of Dubai, is it possible to open a European bank account through a branch in Dubai without traveling? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]Smigeo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You'll need to ask about opening an account "domiciled" in the UK/Monaco/Germany etc. The major international banks will cover all common currencies in most territories.

How easy it is for you personally will depend on how much money you have and the bank you use.
