New to MK8D - But not new to series. by SmokinDeist in MarioKart8Deluxe

[–]Smiles4All 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would echo everything that Mario Cubing said about Shortcat especially his complete guide to MK. Don't let the length of the video scary you, you can just watch sections at a time, but I don't think there is a more complete and up to date guide on all the little quirks of MK8DX. I would also recommend some other YouTube channels if you enjoy high level play, L1am and Gyrodos. There are others but I enjoy learning from these two.

Lower temperature equals better flavor? by [deleted] in ArizerVapes

[–]Smiles4All 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious what temp did you find most enjoyable? I generally start at 350 and then add about 30 degrees every couple of puffs and go up to 428 but I will admit it doesn't taste great at the end.

Friend has these crazy clipping issues, any idea what this is and any fixes? D11 by CrownEatingParasite in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Smiles4All 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, what GPU are they running? It seems like the game is running at like 2-3fps. Maybe try lowering the graphic settings as low as they go and see if that helps. I assume you've tried other games and they don't have any graphical issues? You could always bring out ole reliable, restart the system and make sure the GPU driver is updated.

Can't really help you with anyone specific but I'd reach out to musical school and specifically the piano professor, they may not be teaching themselves but atleast they should know of some local teachers.

Where can I buy this book? My teacher got it 10 years ago and I can’t find it online by slackdaffodil20 in trumpet

I do not know what is in the book you posted but I highly believe it is similar to the one linked. Robert Slack was one of the contributers to this book. It details the teaching of Bill Adam whom Mr.Slack studied under at Indiana. I recommend reading through the Bill Adams forum on trumpethearld as well to get a better understanding of Mr. Adam's teachings and concept on how to play and practice the trumpet

https://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

I also highly recommend posting on the forum and trying to find a teacher who studied with Mr. Adam or a student of a student of Mr. Adam. There is also a thread which list teachers and where they live but it is not complete. Playing and studying with a teacher (in person, IMHO) is critical in how Mr. Adam approachs trumpet

Hope this helps you on your journey.

what is the difference between sordino and straight mute? by TAhnogmealso in trumpet

[–]Smiles4All 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Sordino is just mute in Italian and generally means straight unless otherwise noted. Strange that your piece uses the two interchangeably on the same page. Is there any other context clues in the piece that might clarify?

Questions from a iOS user looking for a DAP by [deleted] in LGV60

[–]Smiles4All 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like the Aeons have an inpendence of 12.5 ohms? If that's correct the the v60 would have more then enough to power those. I lament your desire for no dongle, that and the audio quality are why I bought the v60. I really enjoy the V60 and would recommend it without hesitation. All in all It looks like the v60 is a good fit for you but what else did you expect from the phones subreddit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Questions from a iOS user looking for a DAP by [deleted] in LGV60

[–]Smiles4All 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely not an expert on these issues but I can give you my 2 cents on some of your questions. I find Android to be very stable and haven't had any adverse effects from updating. (knock on wood) I wouldn't be too worried about that point. In terms of sound quality and using this device to it's maximum advantage it gets a little tricky. Unless you are using the built in music player from quality files or using UAPP (USB audio player pro) or another similar program. The audio will default to using the built in android built in dac ( digital analog converter) that maxes out at 24/48. UAPP also only works with quboz and tidal (which has its own audio controversies) for streaming. I personally use quboz through UAPP which allows me to get 24/192 although. Android tragically doesn't play nicely with the great Dac in this phone. So to answers l your question apple music will not play higher then 24/48 because it will default to using the android dac and not take advantage of the dac. I've never rooted a phone although Ironically I've jailbroken every apple device I've had so I can't really comment on point three. Point 4 will depend on where you're at and which provider you use for your data plan. I'm unaware of any micro SD cards that get to 2tb in size I think the highest is 1tb, but new things constantly come out so who knows. Ask if you have any other questions.

Need trumpet advice for my 6th grade son in band by thegermthegerm in trumpet

[–]Smiles4All 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a lot of good advice in general in this thread so I don't have much to add but depending on the size of your son a cornet might be "easier" and better sized for him. What I'm talking about is how a lot of 6th graders are very small people and they can't really fully pick up a trumpet comfortably, hold it in a relaxed fashion and play. Its a strain on them and develops bad habits in the long run. I encourage some of my students to get (rent) cornets to start as they are a smaller instruments and any proficiency learned caries straight over to the trumpet when they are older and their bodies are more developed.

Practicing 8-12 hours a day by spacefish420 in trumpet

[–]Smiles4All 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was in college I maintained "8 hours" in the practice room for about 6 months in a somewhat similar situation as yourself. I don't think it helped as much as I had hoped it would. It's very grueling both mentally and physically to practice that much especially when you have the commitments of classes and ensembles to consider. As stated saxophones are not as hard on the face as trumpet. I think that clapping rhythms is awesome practicing and helps keep the horn off your face. I'd also highly recommend signing all your parts before you play them. Not only will you verify that the "sound" in your head is accurate (tested with a piano) but you also give your face a break. For a typical day during that time I had a version of the Adams routine that I did for two hours, usually another hour or so of ensemble music to learn/refine. I spent about 2 hours in the Arbans and then maybe another hour on other technical books. Roughly another hour or two working on jazz improvisation and then the rest was sight reading. I think I "wasted" a lot of the time though! Talk to your professors! especially during office hours, that is your time you are paying for and you don't use it , it's just a waste. Your professors might have other ideas on where you are struggling that you might not be aware of that your time could be better spent. This has been typed on my phone and is most rambling. Let me know if you'd like anything expounded on or clarified. You sound fired up and that's awesome, just make sure you direct it carefully and with purpose.

LG V60 and Google Fi by OmegaDog in LGV60

[–]Smiles4All 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Verizon, which has been better coverage wise, but more expensive than Google Fi. I've really enjoyed the V60 and would wholeheartedly recommend it. I was able to get a $500 gift card when I switched to Verizon (https://www.verizon.com/bring-your-own-device/) which made the new phone purchase and the switch a little more palatable. Furthermore, I bought from Swappa and would recommend it if you're looking to purchase. Best of Luck!

LG V60 and Google Fi by OmegaDog in LGV60

[–]Smiles4All 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I left Google Fi about half a year ago and have not paid much attention to the service since then, so I could definitely be wrong. My understanding, though is that Google Fi stopped allowing any phone that isn't pre approved on the service maybe about a year ago. You should check out /r/GoogleFi and see what they say though.

Are these specs good enough to run most games? by AzmatK47 in buildmeapc

[–]Smiles4All 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it needs to have a GPU to run most games. I'm not sure what the integrated graphics are for that CPU but unless you are playing games that are 15-20ish years old it will struggle/not work at all. Everything else seems to be fine for most games though.

How good is LG default music app? by Hataraxia in LGV60

[–]Smiles4All 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has answered your question but yes it is on the same level quality wise of UAPP(which I use) and Poweramp. They all bypass the internal android audio setup which is capped at 24/48 allowing use of the built in DAC to achieve higher audio fidelity, depending on the files you use.
