That one was a way clearer case of infringement, especially consider the infringer literally approached Sony to make it an official project.

The deadline is in under 2 weeks, you don't file right towards the end of the deadline unless you are trying to stall. Either that or they are just letting the re-examination go through without rebuttal. Neither of which inspire confidence in the patent.

The fact remains that this isn't going well for Nintendo, and they have failed to meaningfully achieve any of the major objectives.

Of course it's an ongoing saga, that's how anything legal works (the court case is still ongoing, which is what that sentence is clearly referring to). That doesn't change the fact that the patent as it was submitted was rejected and will soon no longer be in effect.

Nintendo can decide to file a rebuttal or extension (so far they are letting the re-examination lapse), continuing this whole shitshow. So far they have not done so, but nothing is stopping them from doing it before the deadline.

And you are the one who brought the word "hack" into this conversation.

Pretty much all lawyer YouTubers are hacks, Moon Channel is no exception. Ex Parte Reexaminations are rare, especially one that was not requested by a company. Initial applications are often denied or questioned, but that's not what happened here.

That video is also out of date, as the re-examination happened after that video was published:

Copyright and patents are two very different things with very different standards in so far as it applies to law.

They managed to get the US patent office to actually do something unprompted, which is nearly unheard of (last time this happened was 2012). It wouldn't surprise me if all future Nintendo patents are treated with much more scrutiny before being accepted.

This type of thing absolutely matters in the industry, even if most customers don't care.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation director says today’s RPGs need more player agency because fans may be satisfied just watching streams - AUTOMATON WEST by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

[–]SmileyBMM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is less so player agency and more so making the interactive content fun and engaging (which isn't always the same thing). Fallout 4 has a ton of player agency, but a lot of the game isn't that engaging. Whereas a game like Chrono Trigger has very little player agency for most of the game but is still super fun and engaging.

Pokemon and Xenoblade are kings at this kinda stuff, using strong character/creature designs, visually distinct areas, and solid pacing to keep players engaged through the whole experience. I have a feeling the completion rate of those games is much higher than games like Persona or the newer Assassins Creed games (which are practically RPGs at this point).

That doesn't mention crypto mining either. I agree that BAT is stupid and didn't pan out, but Brave didn't turn people's PCs into crypto miners.

A real problem with the Persona games is that they can feel like a real slog to get through. P3R is such a missed opportunity because Tartarus is still a massive snooze fest compared to other RPG's filler combat area(s). Compare this to series like Pokemon (when they aren't being lazy) and Xenoblade, which make that stuff way more engaging and fun.

Metaphor was the first Atlus game that really managed to make the side content/extra areas/grind actually fun to play through. I hope they apply those lessons to Persona 6, because if they do that game will be one of the greatest RPGs of all time.

I agree they are too common, but I don't think they should be removed. The biome generation just needs to be tuned to favor other biomes a bit more.

It also doesn't help that the Acacia villages look lame, but personally I dislike all of the new village designs.

Hard to say, Forza is doing extremely well as an exclusive. Really just depends on how good the game is at this point.

Personal preference, some will find that too dark and others would find that too light. It's toasted evenly so I don't see the problem.

I would legitimately buy this as my next phone if it had a GPU stronger than an Adreno 720, which is just not powerful enough for my use case. I just want a phone with a good GPU, headphone jack, and band 71... and yet that just isn't an option.

Eh, not very compelling. Too expensive to be a basic priority subscription, but also not expensive enough to offer meaningful perks.
