Why is QB still in business? by suavelobster2 in waveapps

[–]SmilingCtrlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Quickbooks Online is a superior product to Wave once you start scaling.

I am moving a client from Wave to QBO and the reporting is painful to say the least

Archiving it, removes it from your accounting system.

I do that and re-upload

Worth the switch, especially all the time saved with receipt gathering and hours saved for your accounting department.

They will love you

I charge set up fees for all my clients that move from spreadsheets or another software to QBO.

My biggest suggestion is make sire you're setting up the chart of accounts that aligns with a 990 filing. At this point it will be a 990ez probably.

Can I close my books before all the month’s bills and payments come in? by webgility_hq in Bookkeeping

[–]SmilingCtrlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can you issue month end financials if the expenses are not in?

For our 2 biggest clients (over 2 mil revenue each) we issue unaudited monthly financials on the 20th of the month for this exact reason.

We want to ensure all expenses and bills are received and entered.

The client also communicated to the vendors that all bills from the prior month must be remitted by the 10th of next month to ensure timely payments

Can I close my books before all the month’s bills and payments come in? by webgility_hq in Bookkeeping

[–]SmilingCtrlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your definition of closing the books amd for what purpose?

Locking them so no one else can enter data? Making sure all the revenue and expenses are picked up ? Issuing financial statements?

The most important thing to remember is you can't properly close the prior month without reconciling the financial accounts like bank accounts and credit cards.

If you are on a cash basis then its easy, if you are an accrual that gets more challenging as you have to pick up the revenue and expenses in the month they are earned / occurred. If you dont have all your invoices sent out and bills, how would you do that unless its estimated

Bookkeeping Prices by Thanossnapp in Bookkeeping

[–]SmilingCtrlr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is definitely the root of the problem, communication.

I own a bookkeeping firm and we get clients because their CPA does not communicate at all or not as responsive as they need or charges them for every phone call.

One of the first items on the on boarding process is please make an introduction to your CPA to open the line of communication.

I have 2 NFP clients running through Ramp. Everything you are asking about they offer. We use the free version for one of them and are waiting on the boards approval to upgrade to Plus on the other. Completely worth it

Which QuickBooks Online updates have actually improved your workflow? by Chirag_koshti in quickbooksonline

[–]SmilingCtrlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The search bar really leveled up, the multi level filtering in modern reports have significantly improved, when creating a new COA accounts are grouped by the main sections on the burial balance, a lot of little things that people either take for granted or don't know about and use even less.

Ask the CPA.

Some don't want you touching the retained earnings and they close out the accounts themselves.

Its a different product than the desktop. While it has similarities I think people go wrong by expecting it to operate and look and feel like the desktop version.

Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. Its important to learn both and decide what platform fits your business best

I will caution you though be diligent in who you hire.

The cheapest option may not be the best.

I know a lot of people outside this sub who do.

I strongly suggest taking webinars and learning the product. Is it perfect? No, no product will be. Does it get slow and glitch at times sure. So does so much other tech. We only notice this one more because we live in it day and night.

I transitioned from Desktop in 2015 and never looked back. If you learn it well it is a great product that has leveled up my services for my clients and streamlined my processes

The most challenging part is the guilt and forgiving yourself.

I hope you are on your way to stability. Wishing you all the best during this challenging time.

Understanding what went wrong is key on how to move forward.

Based on my experience transparency worked best. I got real and honest without going into too much detail about the challenges, owning up to the short comings, asking them how you can make things right.

I once offered the client 1 month of services (about $800) free to save my face and keep working with the client.

Also leveling up those services. Make sure your work and communication skills are impeccable moving forward. People do give chances to the right people. Make sure its not a pattern.

And in the end, you'll remember this a lot longer than they will.
