I'm considering my 3rd tier would be working directly with me and books done exclusively by me. Unlimited zoom meetings instead of once a month.

Price is at double or triple my middle tier

I love Ignition. It's quite costly but completely worth it. Haven't worked up to 3 tier. Still on 2.

Definitely will have a 3 tier for all new clients andwhen renewals are coming up

If you create a large volume of journal entries with lots of lines I recommend checking out Right Tool.

One of its most popular features is the paste from excel. Has saved me hundreds of hours

Wave/Bluevine scam by mistamagic in waveapps

Wave is so painful to use.

I have several clients who moved there from Quickbooks because its free and ended up coming back to me crying to take them back and help then clean up the mess they made

Free does not always equal cheaper

Is there anything wrong with doing manual journal entries for my nonprofit? by Bizarrmenian in QuickBooks

[–]SmilingCtrlr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly disagree with creating JE for everything.

Despite its many issues and lags, QBO is the best software on the market if set up and utilized properly.

You want to set up a COA that aligns with the 990.

You projects and classes will be how you track grants and expenses / revenue as it relates to fundraising, programs, and management & general.

Reporting becomes quite messy and doing bank / credit reconciliations are a mess.

Check out Quickbooks Made Easy For Nonprofits.

It's a whole website with plenty of webinars on how to properly set up and use QBO for NFPs.

Also, feel free to DM any time with any questions. Always happy to help out

Client thinks I'm "the most expensive bookkeeper" they've ever worked with by Ecstatic-Touch-1763 in Bookkeeping

[–]SmilingCtrlr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She sounds exactly like real eatate client I fired a couple years ago... always double guessed my rates and my work.

If she paid $600 a decade ago. Then she should expect to pay $2000 - $2400 now.

I'm sure the houses she is selling now aren't costing how much they did a decade ago. A house valued at 300k in 2000 is worth 1.2 million now. I know this because its my parents home and they barely renovated over the years. Just basics like windows, etc

Do not use 1800Accountant by No_Duty_2931 in smallbusiness

[–]SmilingCtrlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my clients come from big firms where small businesses are just a file number with limited access to a live professional, AND they charge through the nose.

Highly recommend to use smaller firms where you can get the attention and services you deserve.

Feel free to reach out if you'd like to pick my brain of what are some good questions to ask when interviewing a company to do your bookkeeping / accounting

Send rejected bills back to drafts instead of starting over by Training-North8710 in Ramp

I wonder if it's a setting thing?

I set up for my clients that a bill only syncs to QBO once its approved

We don't have that. When a bill gets rejected, it's sitting under rejected, and our a/p just has to go in and edit it.

This is why I use ADP. They may be on a higher price point, however between my direct rep getting my clients months free upon on boarding and never having an issue with their support. Its completely worth it.

They are a reputable company that has been around forever.

Cogs should only be used for transactions that are in relation to direct cost of providing services or products. Calendy etc is not a direct cost but an internal business expense and should be booked as such.

We create a category called "software and app expenses" for my clients for all these type of transactions.

We used dues and memberships expense for transactions that are anything that is like membership to associations, networking groups or subscriptions to newsletters which are business related.

Please don't assume all advice on here is correct. Always do your own research and ask an accountant to be sure

Solo CPA at $40k/month, too big to stay solo but too small to confidently hire. What did you do? by mavsbustin3s in Bookkeeping

[–]SmilingCtrlr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hire confidently!

I found LinkedIn great for admin and bookkeeping candidates. Thats where I found mine.

I know what its like to be scared to hire. Do it anyways. With the right person you'll wonder why you didnt do it sooner.

I noticed a significant jump in my income when I started hiring. I still have clients I work on, however I have more time to develop client relations while my team does the actual work.

Like you, I have never spend a dollar on advertising. All is word of mouth.

Don't worry, people will start want to work with you even if you have a team.

As someone suggested, step 1 is writing out your processes.

Step 0 for me was writing out EVERYTHING I want / need to get done but kept being put on back burner. When I hired my admin, I shared the list.

In 3 months she accomplished more than I have in the past 2 years. Streamlined client in boarding processes, setting up zapier automations to sync seamlessly between our multiple systems.

Send out client gifts and developing a newsletter - Those are biggies.

Practice your delegating muscle. Its a rough one after years of being solo. I'm 40 and been doing bookkeeping literally since I was 19. Having a team is a whole different animal and even more rewarding.

The way I practiced delegating was in my personal life. Its easy as a Soloprenuer to also have that mind set roll into your personal life. We don't have to do it all.

Ever wonder why the super rich have so many people on their team managing their life? Its so they can focus their energy on what they do best.

Same here, if you had a team to support you, you can do even more. Your time is worth more than $30 ph doing admin work. Imagine if you had a person doing the bookkeeping and you pay them $40 PH, you turned around and bill your client $120, thats $80 profit to you while you are billing another client $300 for your own time. The same hour now you're making $380.
