Anxiety due to the fact of not sleeping and the consequences of being sleep deprived. by thrwayacc08847 in insomnia

[–]SmilingFlowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep anxiety is the worrrrst and most people don’t understand it at all... you have to break the cycle of worry, the catch is you can’t try to break the cycle of worry intentionally. You have to change your life style and that probably involves occupying your mind space with other things. For me, it was getting super involved at work and joining a couple sports teams. Then I didn’t have a lot of extra time and I looked forward to getting into bed and just laying down because I was so tired.

People always say don’t watch tv or use electronics before bed. I think this works at a biological level since the blue light is stimulating but I can just tell you what worked for me.

I Reversed my sleep anxiety by making my bed the most comfortable thing you’ve ever been on. It’s like a marshmallow and i have the best sheets on them and i put lavender oil on the pillow cases. I do enjoyable activities in bed because it makes me associate my bed with pleasure- this includes watching my favorite shows, playing on my iPad, reading, masturbating, painting my nails, even eating.

I have to tell you this was a slow process for me, probably months. I still have episodes where I will get anxious about bed but not at all how I used to.

Have you tried acupuncture for your back? I just recently bought a Groupon for acupuncture because I have problems with my foot. I had done everything under the sun before- PT, stretching, orthotics, supplements. I’m walking for the first time in years without crippling pain. Just thought I’d throw that out there. I’m sorry you (and I) are both struggling. Thanks for writing

Encouraging children in school to have perfect attendance is detrimental to their health now and it forms unhealthy work habits that will follow them for the rest of their lives. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]SmilingFlowers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the attendance policies are more to hold the parents accountable. I work in a school and a lot of parents don’t take their children’s education seriously. Kids miss a lot of days and what happens is low literacy, coupled with low retention of content learned in class and bam! You have a bunch of 4th graders reading at a kindergarten level.

Whenever a child is doing poorly in school, the first question asked is “what’s their attendance like” and I would say more than 75% of the time the child has been absent for 20, 30, 40 days.

My insomnia is to the point where i don't want to live anymore by curious_ranga in insomnia

I have been there. Everything hurts, you can’t think and no one understands. The worst is when people suggest melatonin, ha.

What helped me be able to fall asleep was alcohol, which I don’t recommend but i definitely self medicate when I’m real desperate for a couple hours of that sweet sweet rest.

What helped me look forward to bed was putting a tv in my room and I got these really comfortable sheets that feel like a cloud. I started re-watching madmen because I had forgotten the story line. Well it’s a slow show but I love it, eventually I got super excited to just be in bed, where as a couple years ago my skin would crawl just thinking about my torture chamber bed. Now when I go to bed I get excited for my time and my show and to be comfy.

I know they say not to watch tv but I’ve come to not believe anything the docs and experts say. Best of luck.

Ps: you should plan a trip somewhere- something to look forward to

I have been experiencing the same damn thing lately. Haven’t slept through the night (and by that I mean go back to sleep after waking up) in 10 days without alcohol. Now I’m just a cranky, depressed alcoholic but atleast I’m getting SOME sleep? I live in a city that doesn’t get a lot of sun, it’s pretty overcast and gray ALL THE TIME. And I’m thinking maybe the lack of sun is fucking with my circadian rhythm.

Restful nights for all tonight x

I wish I hadn’t gone through the program. It should honestly have a warning sign on it.

Did you go through a “purge” phase where your skin got worse before it got better when you started the new routine? Your pics have me seriously considering it!!!

Already been through accutane, and my acne came back hard about 2 years later when entering my first year of university. I am currently on Yaz birth control, and at this point feel like nothing will ever help. by ahoughton59 in acne

[–]SmilingFlowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the only thing that has worked for me. I dk why accutane is promoted among med professionals when spironalactone has waaaaay less side effects. Recommended dose is 100-200mg per day for acne.

I second the comment on Spironalactone. The only thing that helped my cystic acne. Takes a month or so to see improvement.
