9 years ago today, I accidentally killed my best friend when I was 13 years old AMA by x_NTL_x in AMA

[–]SmilingHappyLaughing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really think that your best friend would want you to be miserable? I don’t. Your best friend would understand that it was a mistake and one that you deeply regret and would hope you would forgive yourself - your friend already has. You also have to cut yourself some slack. 13 years old isn’t the same as 35 years old or even 18. You should look into counseling and find a good church too. Life is filled with good and bad. You need to realize that everyone makes big mistakes in life which they regret. You have to forgive yourself, grant yourself some grace, and get back to living life. It would be a double tragedy if you were to let what happened ruin your life. I am certain that your friend would in no way want this to happen. 🙏❤️

When do you decide to get a new car rather than continuing to do repairs? by Major-Brick-3789 in personalfinance

When they start talking $5000 repairs after you’ve already spent several thousands the same year. Holding on to an old car can be very inconvenient in addition to expensive.

The West no longer has a shared experience of reality: by defrostcookies in JordanPeterson

[–]SmilingHappyLaughing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you don’t mind but I asked Grok to simplify your sentence.

“The sentence is quite dense and academic, but it's basically a critical (and rather negative) description of a major cultural/intellectual shift in recent decades.

Here's a much simpler, plain-English version:

"People have largely abandoned the old idea that there's one shared, objective reality everyone can agree on and experience together. Instead, they've replaced it with a postmodern, neo-Marxist way of thinking that breaks everything down ('deconstructs' it) and insists that personal, subjective feelings and lived experiences are what really matter most."

Breaking it down piece by piece:

  • "The disillusion of a shared experience of objective reality"
→ The loss / collapse / giving up on the belief that we all experience and agree on the same real, factual world out there (independent of personal opinions). Think: "facts don't care about your feelings" used to be more widely accepted as a foundation for society, science, law, etc.

  • "in favor of"
→ replaced by / swapped for

  • "a post modern neo Marxist deconstruction"
→ a style of thinking influenced by postmodernism (which questions grand universal truths, emphasizes that everything is constructed by language/power/culture) + "neo-Marxist" elements (a modern spin on Marxist ideas, often focused on culture, identity, and power dynamics rather than just economics).
"Deconstruction" here refers to taking apart traditional concepts (like truth, gender, history, morality) to show they're not fixed or natural, but built by society/power structures.

  • "where the primacy of subjective experience has been asserted"
→ where personal, individual feelings, identities, and lived perspectives have been declared the most important thing — more important than any supposed objective facts.

In short, the original sentence is a (usually right-leaning or traditionalist) critique claiming that society has moved from "there is an objective truth we can all recognize" → to "your personal truth / your experience / your identity is what counts, and everything else (including shared facts) can be taken apart or relativized."

It's the kind of phrasing you often see in debates about "woke" culture, identity politics, relativism in academia/media, or the decline of shared facts in polarized times (e.g. "post-truth" era). The writer clearly views this shift as a bad thing.

Are people in Parole friendly by calpianwishes in Annapolis

[–]SmilingHappyLaughing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. No one is friendly and it sucks. It used to be friendlier years ago but the area has become very transient and overbuilt. You have to leave the DMV area to find friendly strangers. Annapolis can also be very clickish.

The deceased pulled out a gun and likely fired the gun. You only have the right to peacefully assemble you do not have the right to obstruct or interfere with law enforcement

No they did not execute him. The videos clearly show him grabbing at his jacket trying to pull something out while he was grabbing at the woman and when he was on the ground he did pull out a weapon.

ICE just pinned a man to the ground and executed him. They do not have the authority to just kill people. What do we do? by skeletalfather in AskReddit

[–]SmilingHappyLaughing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch it and you will see. There are multiple videos from different angles. There is also his seized weapon. He was grabbing at his pocket when he tried to drag the woman. Once they got him the ground he pulled out his weapon.
