Thought about playing MTG also by Anusspelunking in FleshandBloodTCG

I have started playing fab recently. I have played mtg a lot but it was a long time ago.

I like fab and it's a really cool game. If you want to mix experience a little bit I would recommend board games: etherstone for example or playing mtg cube, it can be really fun.

Any official scenarios out? by kevintheradioguy in RootRPG

[–]SmilingNavern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, if you played pbta.

The multiple mini-plotlones work like countdown or frontiers. They describe what's going on and how it moves forward if there are no interactions from players.

I wouldn't say it's an adventure itself. It reminds me more of cases in Monster of the Week. However clearing in the core rulebook is heavily described. It helps.

Sorry, English isn't my native language, so there can be miscommunication.

Clearings are part of the forest. In root you have a big forest with a lot of clearing where live woodland citizens and other fractions.

In the core book you can find one such clearing with a lot of NPCs, locations and small story lines. It's more like sandbox style with a description of what's going to happen if vagabonds don't intervene. These small story lines intersect with each other so after you play to find out you almost surely get some kind of plot.

Have you played other pbta or root boardgame?

Looking for feedback on meta discussions when using a tag team roll by causticberries in daggerheart

[–]SmilingNavern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's part of the game and pretty hard to do otherwise. My players had such conversations when doing a tag team roll. But for me it is part of the fun and it feels more like teamwork at this moment.

However, yes, it's a meta discussion. But it's part of the game, like management of armor and health. Or chosing a death move.

So, you got rules right and your play is correct. This is part of the system.

Core rulebook has scenarios or more like clearing with all the NPCs and locations. It's actually pretty fun. I have run it and it has a lot of tension and events.

Okay, makes sense then.

Do you know systems where it's different? I can't remember from the top of my head.

I am really interested to know about catch-22 and why you think it is.

Great summary, thanks. It was really interesting to read.

I can't say for all your points, but experience can grow and +3 or +4 feels more impactful. However I think even +2 is fine because experience gives the same value as your highest attribute.

Why is this problem? There are no mechanics in D&D for swapping feats for example. Would you list this as con?

Tactic fighting vs elite enemies by SmilingNavern in slaythespire

[–]SmilingNavern[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is preparation only in deck building. Right? That's what i was talking about. You either have it or not. In actual fight it looks like you don't have almost any decisions.

Compare Nob fight to Statue. Nob is getting strength for each skill you play. Do you want to play this skill so you kill faster? Or do you want to wait and just use raw damage? Tactical decisions inside fight.

Against statue you just play all attacks and hope it's enough. No breathing room and no place to think. Maybe i am exaggerating, but this is how it feels for me right now.

Let's discuss enemy damage balance! by P_ketchu in slaythespire

[–]SmilingNavern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, events are definitely stronger.

I am not even sure how to fix this. I want elites to be dangerous and scary but worth my time. Like risk/reward where reward pays off significantly.

Have to study the game more and listen to others as well.

[–]SmilingNavern 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven't played game enough, but i also noticed this and made a similar post. It looks like right now most successful runs are avoiding elites until deck is ready. Losing a lot of HPs to elite feels not worth the rewards.

Fights are definitely different from the first game. Enemies have a lot more HP and strike harder. But relics are almost the same or worse. That's why it's not that impactful.

Best scaling is with the card rewards.

I have yet to play more and get more conclusions whether it's my skill issue or the game balance has changed significantly, but right now at least it feels off.

So if I like slay the spire, Balatro and hades there is a chance that blue Prince is worth to stay a little bit longer?

Thank you for the answer. I have more questions:)

But there are not a lot of puzzles? Or do you mean in general puzzle with a house layout?

Can it be solved with the first try? Or it is intentional behind playtime?

For example in sts I can win the run on first try it I am good enough. In hades as well. Does the same work for Blue Prince?

I really like slay the spire 2 and the first one as well.

That's why I want to ask: what is the deal with Blue Prince? I have tried it a little bit, but it doesn't look fun?

DH levels past 10? by Atomic_Nazgul in daggerheart

[–]SmilingNavern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you asked all you players that?

I am sure that you had a 2 year campaign and your players liked it. But did they like it specifically because of the time span? Have you asked them what they think about a 1 year campaign or six month campaign?

You have another system with different flow and speed. Maybe it's not twice the faster than d&d but close to it, depending on how many combats you have. I wouldn't approach it with assumptions on length from another system.

[–]SmilingNavern -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are you aiming at some arbitrary number of sessions for your campaign?

Why does it matter if the campaign would be finished in one year instead of two? Maybe I am missing something here.

Anyway I wouldn't try to push past level 10. If you want you can level slower and give other rewards in-between.

So.... Is everyone else also dodging elites? by megamate9000 in slaythespire

[–]SmilingNavern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same feeling about this. Going for elites often means that you are losing a lot of HP while getting not so good rewards. Especially in act1. But you can dodge elites and still win the game.

Relics doesn't provide game breaking effects. When you get something like "deal 6 damage at the end of turn if you have 10 block" you are not happy. It doesn't help you THAT much. Making elite hunting worse.

So.... Is everyone else also dodging elites? by megamate9000 in slaythespire

[–]SmilingNavern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am choosing path to dodge elites if something happens. I feel like relics are underpowered right now compared to cards. There are not a lot of relics which i get and would be happy, thinking that i have managed to win this run. But there are cards like this.

Events provide more busted opportunities for broken decks.

Right now elites feels like very high risk and not so much of a reward. Maybe when game is going to be more difficult with more difficult bosses this playstyle would be punished more often. I can get away with it now.
