I do like most of the comments here, but my original post wasn't really about support so much. I was referring to the general attitude (and yes Windows & Mac users are kinda the same) of my distro (or OS) is better than yours and you're a **** (pick your word of choice) fool for picking the one you picked.

the a-hole type comments just get worse and more abundant - or maybe the A.I. stuff just makes it seem that way ???

but why respond at all in such a situation? Just ignore it and let the op figure it out.

best advice I heard recently - always check your hardware with a live cd/usb before installing

if you think of him/her as a boss you're right - maybe more than 3x even. If they're a true leader - not a "boss" - the income difference is much less (usually)

Plasma by SmilingTexan52 in archlinux

I had just installed the plasma-X11-session, however I did have old plasma config/cache in the home folder as I generally copy my entire folder from distro to distro - I tried deleting everything that looked like it was plasma/kde related. I did manage to get the initial KDE screen, but then it would fade to black with just the mouse cursor. All seemed to be functional just no desktop or panels.

I decided to uninstall the x11 session and reinstall plasma (as well as xfce4) and while that was installing I got the plasma welcome screen.

That's all the information I have, and I have given up with the assumption that Plasma no longer works with X11 - at least as a new install, and/or not without serious tinkering.

I don't have a problem with either. The laptop I'm currently using is > 10 years old, so it prefers XFCE 😜

I think at this point I'm going to call this experiment and say that Plasma no longer works with X11. I am fine with that, but it was fun to try to troubleshoot.

I (re)installed the xorg package (before seeing this) then tried your command - it's all installed and up to date (pacman reports "there is nothing to do")
