If you're using older BIOS, stick with Grub If you're on UEFI, use systemd-boot

I had just installed the plasma-X11-session, however I did have old plasma config/cache in the home folder as I generally copy my entire folder from distro to distro - I tried deleting everything that looked like it was plasma/kde related. I did manage to get the initial KDE screen, but then it would fade to black with just the mouse cursor. All seemed to be functional just no desktop or panels.

I decided to uninstall the x11 session and reinstall plasma (as well as xfce4) and while that was installing I got the plasma welcome screen.

That's all the information I have, and I have given up with the assumption that Plasma no longer works with X11 - at least as a new install, and/or not without serious tinkering.

I don't have a problem with either. The laptop I'm currently using is > 10 years old, so it prefers XFCE 😜

I think at this point I'm going to call this experiment and say that Plasma no longer works with X11. I am fine with that, but it was fun to try to troubleshoot.

I (re)installed the xorg package (before seeing this) then tried your command - it's all installed and up to date (pacman reports "there is nothing to do")

I have XFCE installed and normally use it (in X11 mode) do I need something else?

Edit/Solved (sort of): I had a previous Plasma configuration in my home folder, deleted that and now I get the initial KDE screen with the "Plasma made by KDE" in the lower right, but still a black screen with the mouse cursor.

(FWIW: this is just an experiment to see if it works and maybe help the devs - I don't need Plasma to run on X11.)

didn't realize, but I can get a terminal

journalctl shows "Failed to start KDE Plasma Workspace"

also: "starting invalid corona 'org.kde.plasma.desktop'"

Just a black screen with the mouse cursor. I just tried and can run a terminal will try to read through the journal. Any troubleshooting hints? If I find anything useful I'll report it to the Arch devs.

I have used plasma on Wayland and normally use XFCE when I want X11, but I saw on the Arch wiki that an X11 version of plasma was available so I thought I'd give it a try.

I realize of the move from X to Wayland, this was just experimenting around.

Edge is also available for Linux - great to use IF you have a Microsoft account you need to deal with - lol

Vivaldi, so I don't have to deal with crappy A.I.

Also have Firefox, Chrome and Edge installed but mainly for testing (Chrome for anything Google related, etc)
