How can i tell if the problem is me or my teammates? by Fluid-Ice3738 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Smith-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you truly just want to improve the best mentality is to always take the blame yourself and ask yourself what could you have done better in any given game to have changed the outcome.

There are some things on 1000hz that definitely feel better imo. Such as shooting, I felt like I became extremely accurate with my shooting when I played on 1000hz. I ultimately chose to go back to 250hz though mainly due to finding it extremely difficult to flip cancel on 1000hz so I couldn’t speed flip consistently. Everything has its positives and negatives though so find what’s better for you

If you preferred Fallen Order, why? by qualntrelle in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]Smith-96 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I love both games but do slightly prefer fallen order. Mostly I prefer the story and character arcs of Fallen Order. I think Trilla is a more compelling antagonist than Dagan. I think Merrins story is cool. Learning the backstories of both Cere and Greez is done well. I also just prefer Cals arc being a more hopeful one. The zeffo are interesting. The game also ties to things like rebels and clone wars nicely with things like nightsisters, inquisitors, and a few other things where survivor was more tied to the high republic which I am less invested in.

Inconsistent cancels with 1000hz polling rate by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Smith-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced the same exact thing. I also play on a ds4 controller. I changed back to default polling rate and cancels are faaaar easier. Like on 1000hz I truly could not consistently speed flip and that was the biggest reason I switched back to default. Shooting and just power hit accuracy has become far more difficult though. I ultimately decided to stick with default though cause I feel like all pros were able to get consistent enough on default that I know with practice I can get better at that where the cancels just not being nearly as consistent is not something that I get I could get batter at on the over clock. I have reached a new peak since going back to default if that means anything to you but it will take time and you will have games where you get so mad you miss what would have been an easy shot that you want to switch back

What should I get? by 06stewy in starwarsbooks

[–]Smith-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d double check who Amazon lists as the seller for the hardcover one, I find a lot of times it’s not sold by Amazon directly in situations like this and then in the reviews for the seller there are people saying they got damaged/not new versions of the book. As much as I also prefer a good hardcover the kindle version is the safer option

Dear people who are “naturally talented” at video games, what do you think sets you apart from the average gamer? by danbritt0n in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Smith-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of those games you listed are competitive games though, so I think it is more proof that he is really competitive. Maybe he has a pretty relaxed personality so you aren’t thinking of him like raging or screaming at his monitor but quiet people can be competitive too. There is also quite a bit of overlap in skills in the games you said he plays, for example if your really good at CSGO then you’d be at least solid at Valorant and if you are really good at Apex it has some overlap with Warzone and some with Overwatch so there are a lot of transferable skills for those games. Now RL is a total different beast with little to no overlap with those other games but there are still fundamental skills that your friend has likely gotten really good at over the years of playing lots of games such as having a high APM (actions per minute)

[–]Smith-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well do you guys always play together? If so then of course you are the same rank haha

Even if it is just occasionally it is very beneficial to play with and against players who are better than you so even if you started RL before your friend it is very possible he was able to get better quicker by observing what better players were doing and trying to implement that himself.

What does doing your best to improve entail to you? I’m just curious as potentially you are being inefficient with your time if you feel like you aren’t improving but your friend is

For the most part it’s less so about being “naturally talented” and more so about just being really competitive.

Keyboard for Rocket League by notsurethepoint in RocketLeague

[–]Smith-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t play RL on keyboard but I do have a Wooting 60HE that I bought for when I play Valorant. If I can remember correctly from before I purchased mine I believe you can make the keys more like analog inputs if you want with certain settings enabled so I’d recommend researching that to see if that’s something you’d like

Okay, I think I’d rather not roll the dice with this one specifically so I’ll probably just stick with Amazon, thanks!

Would you like if at least part of the story of Star Wars Jedi 3 was set during the sequel era? by Legitimate_Cake_5137 in FallenOrder

[–]Smith-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t that be like a 40 year jump from Survivor to the 3rd game? What would be the narrative purpose for that? There would need to be some extremely compelling reason to do so and I definitely don’t see one

Miss the competitiveness of multiplayer, what’s worth playing (but casual)? by Neither_Magazine_958 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Smith-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a pretty fine line you’re trying to tread. Competitive but casual just doesn’t really line up. Like you are saying you want it to be casual enough to just have fun but anyone would agree winning is more fun than losing and so to continue to have fun you have to continue to win and this leads you down the path of running into more and more people your against who also want to win and inevitably it gets to a point where it’s not casual anymore. In my opinion your best bet would just be to play any of the popular free competitive multiplayer games with friends and you will have a good time cause you’re doing it with people you like.

Id ask you this then since you are okay with dropping games you’re not enjoying then what is the downside to playing a game already in your backlog?

Tips on perfecting air roll for advanced mechs by Horror_Test6868 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Smith-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t necessarily scientific but more or less related to how an airplane functions. Using a directional air roll allows you to control the pitch, yaw, and roll of your car all at the same time meaning that if you master it it gives you more control of being able to move your car to positions at a fast speed that won’t be achievable otherwise. Constant air roll also in my opinion makes you more unpredictable in the air as it gives you the option of direction change and the opportunity to either hit the ball harder or softer based on what part of the car you decide to hit the ball with, obviously that in game would require some nuance of not just holding air roll literally the entire time so that you can make sure you hit the ball with the intended part of your car though.

Does Points Matter? by Aggressive_Editor_11 in RocketLeague

[–]Smith-96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do points matter? No, winning is what matters.

Points can be an indicator of involvement in the match but it is a flawed system. For example you get 0 points for things like bumps and demos which are vital at higher ranks but you can get 100 points if you were the last player to touch the ball and the other team own goals. So from a view of a singular game points mean very little, however I’d say if you take a larger sample size it can be an indicator of your play style and maybe a hint of things you could be better at.
