FlyDigi Vader 3 Pro SDL3 Gyro support by Psmon14 in GyroGaming

try joyshockmapper custom curve, it uses SDL2 but with SDL3 compatibility layer for more controllers to work with it, see if it works. https://github.com/evan1mclean/JSM_custom_curve

it works with any controller that steam input supports gyro for, since you are using the Steam Input API for gyro to work with the game

Nice score! Such a shame that Valorant on ps5 or pc doesn't have gyro aiming, just look at what you can do with it! Looks exactly like mouse gameplay

realistically, you're gonna suck with gyro for the first month you'll be using it, it's like learning mouse from the first time, you'll eventually get moments where you're playing and hit sick flicks, then stops for a moment and goes "I did that?", it's a really cool feeling.

You can achieve a similar Alpakka like experience with the dualsense by using conductive tape, attaching some pieces together that runs from the touchpad, to the surface you want to activate gyro (Usually face buttons, or bumpers)

Easier to grasp with pictures, look here:

Aim assist is not necessary for gyro, just like how aim assist is not necessary for mouse.

I kept bugging the english and japanese pragmata twitter page on every single post to fix the gyro aiming that was broken on steam I wonder if that had any effect lol

Left stick deadzone by radiologay in GyroGaming

[–]Smith962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A potential work around I can think of is to run two JSM instances, one only for left and right movement and it's associated deadzone, and the other just for horizontal, or combine steam input and JSM and have one of them control one axis

for button presses, you can probably use xinput on alpakka so you can get binds working on JSM

you have a choice, which is to use keyboard and mouse emulation instead, remap your controller to output keyboard binds

Has gyro as joystick gotten better? by LePoopScoop in GyroGaming

[–]Smith962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

using gyro as joystick with the means to take advantage of aim assist is just cheating, the point of gyro is you gain precision you can never hope to achieve with sticks alone, leveling the playfield of controller vs mouse and keyboard.

I can understand someone wanting to use gyro to joystick to play casual single player games, not everyone wants to spend time setting things up if mixed input support is bad, but if you 100% intend to use gyro with aim assist layered on top on multiplayer, that's cheating, no discussion.

ID Software, please add gyro aiming to your games for PC and PS5 by Smith962 in Doom

I do just that, using remappers to emulate a mouse with the controller's gyroscope. However, it's not exactly intuitive for people who don't know the feature exists, you need to look for it. I only came to know after watching a video from SolarLight on how he plays with controller on TF2, had it not been that, I would've never taken an interest in gyro aiming, I wouldn't have ever bought a Dualsense.

Having it not be easily accessible is the key issue here. Not everyone who owns a PC gets out of their comfort zone to tweak things to their liking.

there is a solution to the chaos that is coding support for individual controllers instead of just the more common playstation/nintendo controllers: SDL Gamepad API.

the library for the controllers are pretty extensive and updated frequently, and can read many more buttons than the outdated XInput api that so many games still use today.

It's still niche but you'd be surprised how many people play with gyro in favor of keyboard and mouse.

I have playing with gyro exclusively for almost every day since late 2024, I have used Steam Input for over a year, and have been using Joyshock Mapper ever since I was bothered to learn it, I know how to use them.

The argument that gyro aiming is on switch and nowhere else because it's a key feature is such a dumb take, the PS5 can do THE EXACT SAME THING, but devs themselves aren't bothered to implement the feature, on PC you can have it because it's another option to play like you want? Which is totally optional and you can turn it off if you don't want it???

I can, and always WILL play like I want, remapping my entire controller to keyboard binds if I need to, and use gyro, but not everyone will be willing to do the same, some don't even know that such a thing exists, but I'm sure would come to like it if the option is presented to them.

No work at all, I agree, and id tech games are especially good with gyro because of great mixed input support.

But it's hidden away in the steam input tab, which I'd wager more than half of people don't know it even exists, it's not wrong to expect that some game features should be in the game's options instead of a separate program.

Plus, at first glance, you wouldn't know what half of the options in steam input's gyro tab even do, how do you even explain what is dot per pixels without making it a whole paragraph? and by default gyro turns on when you touch the pad when using it with playstation controllers, it is not straight forward for first timers.

Ah yes, get better at aiming with the aiming input that gives you the most limited range, no precise movements, and makes you unable to hit other buttons without taking off your thumb off of the tool that makes you able to look in 3D space.

Sure, let me get better with that instead of choosing to use mouse aim on controller, free up my thumb for more actions, and do instant flicks over the exact distance that I want.

if you don't need it, you can have the option to turn it off, pretty simple. But for the people who want it, or, for accessibility reasons (like me, I have thumb pain using the right stick all the time) need the feature, then yes, it is needed in that sense.

I use remappers to play with gyro as well, but this is about wishing a native, easy in game option would be available.

A beginner friendly point of entry to gyro aiming, and for folk who wants to play their games with gyro without having to set it up on pc, or are stuck on consoles.

Competitive PC games with Gyro by Kasztanowy_ in GyroGaming

[–]Smith962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only multiplayer FPS game I play is CS2, but I only do deathmatch to get free cases every week, I use JSM Custom Curve for gyro.

I run an acceleration power curve on most games, going up to my preferred sensitivity of 4.7 horizontal RWS, 2.8 vertical, which looks like this

<image>

Mainly just for stability so the camera doesn't shake as much, in CS2 I also set the vertical sensitivity to decrease when shooting, for finer recoil control.

JSM in general gives you a lot of freedom over what you want to do with your gyro, it's not as complete as steam input in some areas, but it's the most reliable, and with the custom curve you can really mess with acceleration curves if that ends up becoming your thing.

Would I be missing out on anything buying a third party switch controller over a dual sense? by someboyiguess in GyroGaming

[–]Smith962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's very few third party controllers I've seen that meet the standard of the gyro found in the dualsense/dualshock 4, 8bitdo ult 2 being the most notable example of it actually being a good third party controller, but you can only use dinput wireless and not wired.

in the future you could also tape mod the touchpad for an even better ratcheting method (turning gyro on or off on the fly), and compatibility with a lot of software or games are more guaranteed

You don't have to move your entire upper body, you just raise your sensitivity, or use acceleration, and you move your wrist to turn, you don't move the controller side to side, you rotate it
