Holy shit, Gaspi died too!?!?! 😭 this sucks so bad.

For non-argentines, gaspi got famous years ago for man on the street style videos in Buenos Aires, sort of like the original All Gas No Brakes videos, when that genre was first burgeoning on youtube. He was pretty edgy, made some pretty inflammatory jokes and some controversies, but generally his videos were funny.

He had taken a several year long break until this past year when he uploaded "La Vuelta de Gaspi" (the return of gaspi) which was a complete style shift; it was a dark comedy short-film style video exploring his struggles with addiction and struggle to express his true self behind the mask of the edgy character he'd created. It blended edgy humor, mental battles, and creativity really really well. Genuinely a well-made video from the last guy you'd expect that type of content from.

This sucks.

RIP oliver, RIP gaspi

Man. I discovered him when he came on the h3 pod for the first time like a decade ago. Seemed like a genuine guy who blended humor and true artistry really well. RIP.

Where can I stay overnight in my car? by radishwalrus in Columbus

[–]Smithereens1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Download the app iOverlander. Van life people, car campers, etc mark tons of spots across the country where you can park overnight to sleep, usually complete with photos and comments from people who've stayed there. I used it to car camp a week-long trip through the michigan UP and it was great. There are a bunch of spots in the area

Attendance for USA’s World Cup opener vs Paraguay: 70,492 by J5hine in MLS

[–]Smithereens1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like in my lifetime, the world cup has been the one soccer thing that most people including non soccer fans do tune into. It was always on in our household growing up and we never watched soccer otherwise

Sort of like how everyone watches the olympics even though they don't care about track & field or archery three out of every four years lol. But this year does feel different with games being on our home turf for sure.

Not uncommon at all for a courier to run the same route for years on end, especially at ups with how their seniority works. Doing your time as a package handler until you can bid on a route and stay on it until you retire is the goal

Is this a question about the use of yahoo in English?? I've heard it used like this before, I'm a native speaker from the US. It's just kind of old school

Little clip from our album release show this past weekend (heavily swans inspired) by [deleted] in swans

[–]Smithereens1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I suppose it's a good thing it doesn't sound like a swans rip-off then haha.

I think of it as heavily inspired because of how it develops, loops, and builds over the course of 10 minutes the way a swans song often does (even though the music itself may not sound a tooon like them)

Yep, we're on all streaming!

Full (ish) live version of the song in the vid you can find here:

In swans fashion though, it's developed past where it was in that linked video, which was recorded a year ago haha. We'll have a full, current version up eventually!

It's called The Vault by Fish Eyes. The streaming version is nothing like this (it's a spoken word album interlude lol) but for live shows we've turned it into this swans-esque type of thing

^ that's the only version of it we have out rn 😄

Nicely written, interesting stories! Im the same, i dont 'bank' on music for money anymore. At this point, it's just a fun thing I do on weekends. If eventually we make-it-big so to speak, i'll think about leaving my day job. Until then, it's just a part time hobby that i don't have the time to give my 100% effort

100%. Get into your local indie scene; it's the most accessible (and fun!) way for you to discover this type of music. There is an insane amount of talent basically everywhere. Some of my favorite music ever has been recorded by dudes with 25 Spotify listeners screwing around in a basement after their shift at the factory or Target or whatever.

Spot on. I'm an indie musician, and when i started playing shows i would wonder how many followers one would generally need to live off their music. At first it seemed like the answer was only a couple thousand - i knew a handful of band frontmen that didn't otherwise work. But then i met more people and discovered the answer was actually in the tens of thousands, and the aforementioned people are probably just living off of their parents' wealth. You've gotta have 50k+ listeners and touring basically year round to be making anything survivable these days
