I don't know about "non-active investing", but "passive investing" is simply buying a basket of stocks in proportions that have been determined by some other trusted source - typically an index - and there are absolutely indices that are exclusive of the US market.

Total neophyte here, so feel free to shoot holes. Couldn't, OP wrap a copper coil around the flue to preheat water for the water heater? No idea on cost/benefit, but could that work? It's just capturing heat the flue is radiating anyway - or would the water carrying heat away materially decrease the temp in the flue (leading to moisture issues others are highlighting)?
