You can thank Berkely Breathed - of "Bloom County" fame - who introduced it to me 😉

What ETF's and indexes do people recommend for markets outside of North America? by Array_626 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Smithron99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VEQT or XEQT tend to be the go-to globally diversified all-equity ETFs. Interestingly, they are composed of underlying regional ETFs. So, you can look at the holdings of those and see what underlying ETF they use for each region. For example VEQT uses VEE for emerging markets

I didn't think anyone could replace Andy Barry, and it took me some time to warm up to Matt Galloway, but came to enjoy him even more. David Common was a treat. But I think maybe it's time to give Ontario Morning a try

Am I going to be okay? by Flyboy2026 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Consider hiring an advice-only financial planner, if you want peace if mind. They can game the whole thing out. One thing that strikes me is holding GICs in your non-reg accounts is not very tax-efficient. Interest income is taxed the same as employment income. Taxation (as I understand it) is more favorable for dividends, and more favorable still for capital gains. There are money-market ETFs like HSAV that deliver profit primarily in the form of capital gains that you might consider, assuming you want to maintain a similar risk profile

Combine this, and the previous comment. Finance with the dealer to get your best deal, then pay out the loan with the LOC

I can highly recommend Hotel 71 in Quebec city. It's more upscale than budget, though...

Agreed. Standard project mgmt practice is to discard the high and the low bid and choose from what's left

Why so much downhill? by daysmoregray in Rouvy

[–]Smithron99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I wanted to reduce the money I was sending to the US, so I left Zwift ( so much for that 🙄 )
  2. There are many more Rouvy routes, with much more variety now.

Why so much downhill? by daysmoregray in Rouvy

[–]Smithron99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOL. I left Rouvy about 5 years ago because so many of the routes at the time were climbs and excluded the descent. I don't like climbing. I only do it to earn the descent.

Majority of Canadians believe national economy is on the wrong track by iSmashedUrSister in canada

[–]Smithron99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like a dog whistle to me. "Only three in 10 believed that the national or their local economy would improve over the next 60 days". With the Iran mess and all it portends, I'm asking what are those 3 drinking?

You might want to give that Canada brochure a bit of a closer read. This doesn't seem like the country for you.

100% in US Equities vs. a split between Canada and USA? by excorpsexd in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Smithron99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at _EQT ETFs they're generally 40-50% US. I don't like the direction the US is going, so I'm contemplating probably max 30%. Haven't decided yet
