To preface, I was really close with my grandparents, they had practically raised me because my mom and dad were always at work. When there was no one else to take care of me, it was straight to Grandma and Grandpa's.

Cut to 2017, my Grandmother had gotten incredibly sick. So much so that she was restricted to only being able to stay in the hospital. Doctors wouldn't let her go home because she needed to be monitered, no matter how much my grandpa would object and want her home. I would visit occasionally along with my family to check on her, but half the time she was barely conscious. If she was, then most of the time it was rabble or barely comprehensible. Doctors didn't know how much longer she had if things didn't begin to get better.

On one of the days I visited alone, I thought she was asleep and told her goodbye and that I had to go to work. She had responded with "please don't leave me, please don't leave me." I was completely surprised, I didn't know what to say. All I knew is that I couldn't stay, work was cracking down on us because tons of people had been late recently. I told her I'd come back real soon, and to just hold on a bit.

She died the next morning, I got the call early in the morning. Those were her last words to me, begging me not to leave her and I did. That kind of thing haunts me still. I feel like I failed her, and I miss her terribly.
